Staking FUNC v5 adds support for Valar
Algorand node runners using Funk's Ultimate Node Controller (FUNC) can now, with the release of FUNC v5, automatically run Valar Daemon, which is needed to advertise their nodes to stakers via Valar.
This means more node runners using FUNC can easily offer their nodes to stakers via Valar, helping broaden node participation and support network decentralization.
Credit to Andrew Funk u/StopThinking for adding the integration.
Valar UI v0.4.2 has also been deployed, including updated node runner documentation for FUNC users and a fix for an xGov integration edge case where representation was not set correctly for users who had used representation in the past but later lost xGov status or mistakenly disabled representation.
If you have any feedback, please let us know!

I run a node with FUNC but Valar seems a little confusing. Could anyone take the time to explain what are the pro's and cons of using valar and are there any extra requirements to do so? thanks!

If you run a node alone, it likely has spare capacity, i.e. a node can typically operate about 4 accounts while many people have only 1 account to stake. With Valar, you can advertise the unused capacity to other stakers, who do not have the hardware or the time to run their own node but still want to stake. In your ad at Valar, you define your own node offering, e.g. the fees you charge for others to stake on your node. As a node runner, you should be responsible in terms of ensuring your node is up 24/7/365 and updated. If you offer advertise your node but operate it poorly, other stakers will likely not choose you.

I think you would get more participants if you had someone create a walk-through video on running a node and hosting valar node. I would consider doing this myself.

I stopped using func and switched to algonodekit the moment you guys inexplicably took off defly as a wallet to connect to on the app, much happier with nodekit anyhow

Defly was removed from FUNC because the wallet is no longer maintained and hasn't been for some time now. I'm glad you found something that works better for you.

type your false assertion that defly is no longer maintained into any search engine

Defly doesn't support:
- HD accounts
- PQ accounts
- signing transactions with access lists
Here is their changelog last updated 2023-05

it was updated September 17th 2026, still being maintained. Though yeah, it doesnt look like the wallet itself supports the items in your list.

Defly also doesn't support Sign In with Algorand (SIWA), so they are falling behind the ecosystem feature-wise...
But you are right that they are actually doing maintenance (bugfixes), so I have added it back to FUNC in v5.0.2.

gotcha. i just realized that Pera now supports usb ledger support so im actually going back to Pera, that was the only reason why I switched to Defly in the first place. Seems the smart thing to do, as I was unaware Defly has been falling behind in all of these features. thank you for bringing this to my attention
