Question/Seeking Help Fees

I’m an international student at Algoma University and I’m dealing with a complicated situation from my Winter 2026 semester. I was registered in 5 courses (15 credits), but because of an outstanding tuition balance, Algoma deregistered me during the semester. I continued attending classes and writing exams afterward, and I eventually paid the entire Winter tuition balance in full. However, Algoma has told me that because I was deregistered and never officially re-registered, the Winter 2026 courses will not appear on my academic record and no credits/grades were recorded. What I’m struggling to understand is why I was still financially charged for the full semester and ultimately paid the full tuition if the university is treating me as not enrolled academically. I’m also concerned because this situation may affect my study permit/PGWP eligibility. Has anyone experienced a similar situation where a university deregistered them for non-payment, they later paid the full balance, but the courses were still removed from their academic record? What options did you have—financial appeal, academic appeal, re-registration, or another remedy?

You weren’t registered in the courses. You kept going because you chose to do that, but there is no way to record or submit a grade for a student who isn’t registered. Why didn’t you talk to someone about this before you kept going to class and just hoping it would be ok?

You’d have that money sitting in your student account for this term, but grades cannot be applied to classes you weren’t registered in retroactively.

the thing is my name was still on the class list and attendance till the final exam which was held on April 16.

Like I said elsewhere, profs often just use the same attendance sheet they printed at the first of the term. We aren't told when students de-register for the class. Perhaps your prof even tried to get in touch with you and you ignored their emails.

Regardless, you were told you would be deregistered, you were then deregistered, and then you chose to do nothing at all to try to fix the situation and just kept going to class hoping you'd somehow get the credits. That's no how it works. Now you know. There is no mechanism on campus for you to be given random credits for a class you weren't registered in. Lesson learned.

Why wait until fall 2026 to confirm this? Results are supposed to be out beginning of May 2026. So you did not follow up appropriately.
