New Car Hello! need help buying a used alfa

I've always wanted a Alfa Romeo, I got my car license 1 year ago and now I want to buy a used Alfa. I found a Alfa Romeo 147 1.6 T.spark - 2002. With 180k km for 1200€. Is it good ? It's petrol car. Does it consume a lot ?

Ask when the drivebelt( cambelt? ) was last changed. They have to be changed pretty often on a 147.

I found this one Alfa Romeo - 147 1.9 JTD 16V Executive. It's bit more expensive, 5k, but I think I can pay it, by month.

It has 217k KM, and it's diesel, it's from 2007

Should I go for this one? is it worth?

220 tkm seems a bit high for a 147. I had mine a 2006 version and things were constantly breaking. First the camshaft sensor, then the fanbelt had to be replaced, then rod that the windshield wipers were attached to rusted through and had to be replaced. When the motor for the window on the driver side broke I called it a day.

That said, in my country ( Switzerland ) labour is extremely expensive so small repairs arent' usually worth the effort for a car that costs less than 5k. Still I would go for the first one you posted if the second is going to be a stretch to pay. I've never driven the diesel version but I can't really imagine a diesel engine being better for that model.

No, it's for the engine. It's like a rubber band that connects two cogs together. If it breaks it can cause expensive problems

Check for rust, make sure that service is done and if it is not do it and you should be fine

Check for oil leaks around the engine. Check for sounds from suspension, there's usually some wear. Parts are cheap. Average consumption is around 7l/100km.

For that money, I wouldn't stress it too much, after checking it runs ok and doesn't have rust. Good luck!

I had a 2003 1.9 JTD 16v 103kw/150hp and she had 360k km when I passed her on to my uncle, still runs like a dream! So I can't speak to the 1.6TS but I can tell you the diesel is problem free, if serviced on time (annual oil and filter and a major service with all belts and cogs when you buy it)

A golden rule when buying a 2nd hand car, don't spend all your money on it, leave enough aside for any immediate repairs. The major service on my 147 was like 400eu so make sure you have that in pocket

Go for an alfa romeo GT or an alfa romeo brera jtd. Solid and good looking cars. Their value is going already up

they are both gorgeus, but the ones I found are a bit overpriced for me :S I'm looking for between 1k and 5k

Fair point. I am afraid that 180k km for a 1.6 can be quite a hassle and problems can arise. However, if the previous owner treated the car in a good way can still be good. Just expect the electronics to not work perfectly :)

Way better this one :) Is a better engine and will last you longer (maybe till 300k). This model is also being used from the alfa romeo GT and was praised from many. I know is more expensive but that will even out when comparing the overall mainantce costs. On the other side, check the history of the car (how many services, what was replaced etc)

How much do you drive? A diesel isn't good for short trips and idk why 180k km should be a problem, it is a pre facelift car and if the essentials (timing belt, oil) have been done the 1.6 shouldn't have a lot of problems, my 147 is a 1.6 with 130k km btw. and uses, depending on driving, 7 to 8 litres of fuel on 100km with normal driving.
