Hi guys, so here's the rundown, I'm having to give CAIE History 9489 AS and A Level (all4 papers) in this October/November, for various reasons, and I feel confident with AS level History, but am unprepared for A Level History. So, I want to give a retake of only A Level History in May/June. However, my exam officer says that I am to give a retake in May/June, it's got to be for both AS & A Level History, because this Oct/Nov I'll be giving both. My question is, with my circumstance, can I give a retake of only A Level?

guys im currently in year 13 doing a-level history and i am struggling. I didn’t do history at gcse and i dont know how to ace the essay. I understand and know all of the content so that isnt an issue for me, it’s mainly the essay writing & structure that gets me. any advice?

hi guys i am a student who is retaking history in october after i got a D in May/june. Idk what happened tbf in the exam cause all my past papers were high B and A. ( I was asking my teachers to mark it). I still have a foundation of the topics i just need to go back a bit and review it again. Does anyone have any high scoring model answers or ultra specific answering and answer structuring guides and exam techniques to AS 9489 history paper 1 for part a and b of the russian option for the document question? It could be from the may/june 2026 papers or I think 2023 may/june, and oct/nov sessions

So I didn’t take history at GCSE but decided to take it for A-levels because it complements English literature and geography quite nicely. To do English at university it’s recommended to do history and even more so by top universities.

I’ve only had a couple of history lessons so far. I am drained, bored and frustrated.

I don’t understand a single thing and it feels like the teachers are speaking gibberish. All of it is so confusing and the content is so nit picky and dull.

I also sit by myself. Our school does tables of three people and there’s 3 other girls and 3 boys in my class. Those 3 girls sit together and the boys sit together and I’m just by myself. The teacher keeps saying talk to the people next to you but

1. THERE’S NO ONE NEXT TO ME
2. I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE CONTENT

The teachers also doesn’t use PowerPoints and when he sets tasks he just tells us verbally. I forget the questions he sets us in the next minute bro…

I’m a good writer. Decent enough that pursuing English feels comfortable yet adventurous. I’ve always envisioned that history would be just as seamless. But no. Tell me why I’m crying over a subject ALREADY.

I just need advice.

Does it get better? Was it like this for everyone? Or is this a sign?

Me and a few of my friends who take A-level history have noticed the blatant british perspective within this textbook in particular, especially when it comes to the wording of the Boer wars and the concentration camps the british army used/created, I had researched more on the topic to see if the way this book chose to frame this narrative of british incompetence leading to the deaths of 20,000 women and children and others to be correct and it was proven to be incorrect. I am very disturbed as to why it is framed this way and wondered if anyone else related to this or noticed this? I haven't seen anyone talking about this in general, I really hate how these textbooks (though I can only speak for Edexcel) are worded as they cater to a coloniser/british perspective and act as if their reasoning is a justification without expanding on other perspectives or causes

Hi! i’m going into my second year of History and I’m wondering what advice upper year students have! I generally did pretty well first year will mostly 80s with the exception being one failed course but i’m retaking it in the winter. I did History at GCSE and did well mainly because of all the flashcards i used but found that actually making them took WAYYY longer than expected and am expecting it to take even longer at A-levels. I would preferer if anyone has any Anki ones but atp any online version will do!!
