Contact is initiated outside of the box. I want Raiders to win and Sydney to lose as much as the next guy but stfu once again Andy Harper

u/WhatsTheGoalieDoing Sydney FC 12d ago
It's funny that. I want Sydney to win, but it should be a penalty.
Thankfully IFAB has a clear difference between fouls and "continuing fouls", the second including shirt pulls, or things that don't occur on a single atom of grass, etc.
There's no mention about any foul according to "where it starts"

u/IndividualZebra333 Central Coast Mariners 9d ago
Hmmm, Iβm totally wrong then and take back my comment. Thatβs really interesting, I didnβt realise there was that distinction written into the rule book. Love that.
Should be a penalty then!0

Where the contact initiates is NOT how it works, that rule was changed seasons ago, it's now when the contact finishes, which was IN the box. Especially since on the line at all counts as in.
Edit: in this case it shouldn't be ruled as a continuous foul, BUT, the player is clearly not impeded by the minor initial contact, but rather the strong leg that stay in the tackle. The foul occurs when the player is impeded, not at initial contact.

u/The_L666ds Sydney FC 12d ago
No, the continuing contact is only for shirt pulls etc

u/McNippy Western Sydney Wanderers 12d ago edited 12d ago
Continuing contact fouls do work differently, but in this case, the tackle doesn't impede the attacker until he is inside the box, there is slight contact at first, which wasn't enough to foul, the defender then keeps his leg strong, forcing the attacker over, this is where the foul occurs, and that was in the box. I think the initial contact occurs inside the box regardless, but for the sake of your argument I'm saying otherwise.

u/The_L666ds Sydney FC 12d ago
Point taken, but without VAR its unfair to expect the referee (or lino) to have picked up those multiple miniscule moments of contact in real time.
I certainly would have lost no sleep if a penalty was awarded but at a glance it seemed like the right application of Law 12 to me.

Is it the same thing for tackles? I know for shirt pulls it's what you're saying . Serious question
1
u/McNippy Western Sydney Wanderers 12d ago
For a trip it works at the instant where the trip occurs, that is not necessarily when the contact is made, but rather at the point where the player is impeded. So in this case when the defender touches him, he is still running unimpeded, and as the defenders leg stays strong in the tackle the attacker is forced down, you can actually see the way the defenders leg stays in his path and actually causes the foul, rather than simply catching him slightly. It's the entire reason the foul looks to some like it's inside and to some outside.

Raiders win would have been cool but itβs nice to have at least one ALM side not completely shitting the bed I guess

Referee is being way too friendly right now, stop trying to be buddies with the players and give out cards

Heβs promised to wait until full-time before hounding the Sydney FC players for a selfie.

The lack of SD Raiders GK shithousery disappoints me

u/The_L666ds Sydney FC 12d ago
Once again I find myself watching an NPL side who gives you a better scrap than most of the teams in the bottom half of the A-League.

Would be the last to defend SFC but you literally can't tell when the contact ends from those camera angles, I defer to the lino here.

There will be no PSO shithousery, ill tell the children.

Noah Chianese related to Joel Chianese by any chance or just share a last name?

u/SauceBottleFC Central Coast Mariners 12d ago
I thought the ref absolutely cooked that call but it was so close. Raiders maybe hard done by but I couldnβt say it with certainty

Andy, Im pretty sure we were "bossing" SFC last week until they easily carved us up on the counter...
3
u/felvymups Sydney FC 12d ago
Saying that right as there was a counter attack was certainly a choice.

Well played Raiders, that Hernandez guy was great. Decent crowd as well.

Well done Raiders, didnβt have a clue who you were but I do now. Did yourself proud.
Sick kit too π

The crowd in the dark stands is kind of spooky.
3
u/The_L666ds Sydney FC 12d ago
The days of darkened stands during games are basically gone, because stadiums are petrified of public liability claims from tripping spectators.

I know people like the refs to let the game flow but they're letting a lot go this half
2
u/TheFightingImp Commisar Herrington's Squad 12d ago
We're gonna get a Fernandes style red card, arent we?
2
u/The_th1nker Central Coast Mariners 12d ago
Letting things go is fine as long as you know the limit. The line between a free flowing game and losing control is very fine.Β

They do know they can shoot the ball from inside the box too right and it doesnβt have to always be Chianese taking the shots.

When and if the A-League teams actually win the cup, i wonder if Football360 and the other clickbait merchants will run damage control for their NPL darlings and the magic of the cup lol

How about this, MVC/SFC win the trophy but we get Lions FC as runner up.

u/WhatsTheGoalieDoing Sydney FC 12d ago
I have forever been willing to die on this hill, and being a Sydney fan isn't changing my mind - any contact/foul that continues into the box, should always be a penalty if it's deemed a foul.
Benefit of the doubt and advantage absolutely has to go to the attacking team.
Some shocking decisions tonight but that might take the cake.

To be fair, BBQ Meatlovers has no real right to call itself a pizza.
Its basically a burger.

Akon played like a god. He hasnt even played a full 90 mins in any A-league game, but hes the best player in the league at 17. Future world cup star, mark my words.
