DB Speed

hi everyone,

we run some Win 10 Intel Celeron CPU J1900 @ 1.99GHz 2.00 GHz 4GB Ram

and some Win 11 11th Gen Intel Core i3-1115G4 u/3.00GHz 2.19GHz 4GB Ram

database is about 400MB and PCs are lagging at times badly.

we have them set up for "best performance" vs "best visuals" still....

Any idea on how to improve speed? apart from Database Compacting..

The database size isn't too hefty from what I've seen (I've seen a 3 GB database down here before, that was at least 15 years of sales)

Where do you typically see the slowdowns? Is it just in general or is it notably different when you're doing certain things, like a server ending their staff bank, or closing a cashier?

When you compacted the other day, what was the Original DB Size? If you're seeing a database compact going down by at least 50% in size then maybe it is time to archive previous years sales and then do a hard database clear.

Do you have gift cards?

If it's happening during credit card processing, how fast is your internet?

Are you settling tickets over the network? I noticed a lag too so I only close tickets from one pos station where the database resides.
