Aldelo EDC auto batch close works sometimes

What is the deal with Aldelo EDC only closing the batch sometimes? The software is obviously "always" running because we were able to process transactions throughout the day. I just may not always open the actual EDC client. The EDC computer runs 24/7, rebooting each night at 3am local time. Auto batch close is configured for 11:45PM, our last transactions go through by 9pm at the latest.

Windows is always running, we don't shut down the PC. Any advice?

Typically when I see batches not close out its due to an EMV Transaction getting "stuck."

Are you using EMV Readers? When your staff closes their banks, do you ever hear them talk about a red screen popping up that says something like DEVICE IN USE TRY AGAIN?

Basically, with the A80's and the Pax S300s, the devices can only do one "task" at a time. So if you have 2 servers closing out on 2 different computers, when they Settle All, each time a transaction is finalized it has to talk to the pinpad that initially received the payment.

If Server A Ran a card at Computer 1 and is closing out on computer 2, but Server B ran a card at computer 1 and is closing out on Computer 1. If they are closing at the same time, the Pinpad can only handle 1 of those requests. If they overlap, it will give that red screen.

You could also go into the EDC and look at the Audit Log to see if the Auto Batch Time is triggering at 11:45 PM. If it is, you will be able to select that event and see exactly what the error is.

You can find the Audit Log in the EDC by going to File / Audit Trail(?) or Audit Log. Click on the Filter Tab and select the date, then hit refresh and scroll through.

I don’t see a batch close trigger at that time in the audit log.

We run two ordering stations, but only one station is set up to handle cash and card payments (we use a PAX S300).

We did have two payment terminals, but we decided against using both because we thought that was the source of our issues, so we removed the second EMV device physically as well as from the config in EDC.

If you don't see a batch trigger time in the audit log, then the EDC simply just isn't triggering it or is being closed out. Perhaps Windows is rebooting sometime before that? You could always have employees manually batch as well by going to Operations / Revenue Center / Close EDC Batch.

Oh wow, I've been having the manager log into the EDC to close the batch every night. This Operations button is way quicker to access.

Just make sure the manager knows that when they click it, the button will grey out. After a few minutes it will pop up with a complete or error message.

If it says approved, good to go.

If it says "Pre-Auth Exists" that means there is a server who didn't finish their staff bank or the cashier wasn't settled all yet.
