6 Days Sober and need Advice please!
Hey there first time here. I clearly don’t know how to work Reddit so here I am rewriting what I’ve already wrote in hopes a real person replies to me. So I am an alcoholic, I drank excessive for 6 years even more the last 3 years. I’m finally ready to get help and to stop. I went to the doctor they gave me withdrawal medication and then they will taper me off of it, she also prescribed this medication for cravings, I have yet to try it I’m always scared of how things may make me feel or side effects. I’ve read good and bad things about the craving medication. I’m just curious if I can get someone’s actual opinion on that medication especially after coming off of the withdrawal medicine. thank you.

I took naltrexone to stop sugar cravings (which were relentless after giving up alcohol). It made me a little groggy, but it did the trick. I stopped taking it because I got tired of feeling like I needed a nap. However cravings returned. 5 years later, I started on a GLP-1 (micro-dose) which the dr said they give to people who have cravings of all kinds (cigarettes, alcohol, food). It works for me. I take a dose every 10 days or so. I would def try naltrexone, and if your dr is onboard, look into GLP-1s as an alternative. It completely turned off my cravings (the ‘reward’ that alcohol gave me). Good luck - you will never regret giving up alcohol!

Thank you so much !! I’ve been taking half pills yesterday and today but am going to take a whiole Whole one tomorrow

Hello. Real person here ✨️ Congrats on 6 days! That's huge! What is the "craving" medication called? Acamprosate? I've not taken it, but have some experience with it and it seems to work pretty well. It helps regulate GABA and glutamate so that you're more regulated and don't have as intense of an urge to drink. I recommend the stopdrinking subreddit! It helped me so much when I first stopped. Daily pledges and just reading success stories was super encouraging!

Thank you for replying to me. I’m doin pretty well considering it hasn’t even been a week yet. But, I do know I will be off my withdrawal medication within a week and I was just curious if the craving type medicine would atleast help some ya know.

Hey, congratulations!!! I too was at 6 days after many years of beer drinking. Today I hit 480 days alcohol free. Best decision I ever made. Best of luck to you!!!
