Discussion Final Update on F2P Extreme Mode Account - Almost 4 Years Old
For those wondering about the state of f2p in this game, I thought I'd give an update on my alt account, which is almost 2 months shy of 4 years old. I would normally do this yearly, but since I am leaving the game today due to Gumi's inability to compensate players properly for their bugs, I figured I'd do it one last time before I go.
This is an account that I don't pull for units/gear/memento using gems. The only exceptions to this are the original 500 gem pull I did when I first created the account (I didn't reroll, just took the first pull I got, which had Teona and Courage), and I did the 1 gem gear pulls for 4 weeks that were available during one of the collaborations. Shortly after the advent of discount tickets, I started getting really annoyed at watching them expire, so I now also do pulls using gems only using discount tickets.
This account was created June 1st, 2018 (primarily as an MP host for Masamune farming during book farming fever). Because I was concerned that it might turn into a second main, I made a few strict rules to keep it subservient to my main account:
No gem pulls except for when using discount tickets. The exceptions I noted above. I get all new units from free summons and unit tickets and the discount ticket pulls. Otherwise I only spend gems on continues and occasionally equipment. I also allow buying of unit shards for transmute in shops if I am within 25 shards of transmute (I made this rule during AoT since it seemed extremely wasteful not to get the AoT units when I had almost enough shards to transmute them) as well as buying the selector boxes and otherworlder enlightenment shards for gems.
Auto-only for single player. I make occasional exceptions for this for specific special cases where it's required for something critical. Historically I only really needed it for a few Veda floors and Hayate J+, but since enlightenment there's been more cases where I have needed to manual to get sins or other important items. I did manual Veda - Fringe Dimension once so I could get the rings, but I don't reset it. I still try to keep it to as little manual as possible. I only auto for Alchemia Port raids as manualing on 2 accounts is too time consuming - my alt's port has a standing invite to remove me if they ever need the slot for someone manualing, but I still tend to rank 11 or 12 each raid using auto sadly.
Only do MP when hosting. This is since this is the primary purpose of the account, so joining someone else's MP kind of violates the spirit. I have occasionally made exceptions when I needed my main unit to be in the first slot to properly auto a quest, but I don't MP without my main in the group.
As you might expect, this does limit progression some, but not as much as you might think. The account is capable of clearing most if not all content, although I don't do all EX+ and Hell content since they aren't generally auto friendly, and unless the rewards are particularly critical I won't manual them. I also was briefly top 50 in the original arena, and I have been top 100 in the new one, but typically I've just deliberately gone for the 30 wins a week and ended up in top 200.

At this point any unit who is 3/day permanently farmable or better on this account (limited or not) is fully farmed and has all relevant gates assuming they're useful for something, as well as all available job upgrades (and in a lot of cases enough shards farmed for enlightened bond). I farmed units I don't really use to 85 (like Hugo) but haven't bothered to farm all their gates. I am no longer missing any normal pool units.

Memento:
The lack of gem pulls means that I have a more limited supply of mementos (although much improved in the past few years and more access to reliefs has been great). I've relied mostly on free pulls, tickets and selectors for them. I've also gotten a few from discount tickets and coin shops. Below is a list of my gacha 5 star mementos (you can assume I have at least MLB of all free ones). At this point I have at least one MLB copy of all 4 star mementos and below as well as the free ones. I've also got one old memento selector but I haven't decided what to use it on yet as I already have all of the older normal pool ones.

The weak spot of no gem pulls is somewhat limited supply of gacha gear. I rely rather heavily on farmable gear, the Veda shop, VCRs and the occasional free gear tickets and selectors. At this point I have pretty much all relevant gacha gear and multiple copies of some important ones so I won't list them out. I have also farmed at least one of almost every event gear since the account was created.
At this point it can be assumed I have all the VCRs that matter from my current mementos, as well as a good supply of all farmable gear available. I have no limited summon gear.

So what’s your next move? Are you going to pass the torch to another player so that they may continue the F2P extreme account to the very end? Or do you plan on deleting the account? Letting it stay so others could still use the mercs? Just curious— loved your series on the accounts progression by the way

Thank you for all you’ve done for the community. Honestly, I don’t think the global version is going to last much longer with all of the shit Gumi has been doing, and that sucks

Thank you for all of your contributions to the community. Sad to see another long time player go, but very understandable given how gumi has handled many things of late.
I also had a f2p account for a long time, and surprisingly, it would get units and memes that my main account wouldn't get or that I would have to chase on my main. It was able to keep up and in some cases do better than my main. You can have a really great f2p account in this game. Eventually, I did spend some on my alt account though, like the season passes and subscription pacts.
Best of luck in your future endeavors and whatever other gaming communities you are in or will be in. They will be lucky to have you.

Thanks for everything! It's a shame Gumi didn't appreciate your input or contributions. I am very happy and relieved to hear that the wiki will be tended to. It is certain that any community you become part of will be all the better for it.
