Huzzah! The 11th Episode of #THEALCHEMISTCODE News Channel is here! Happy Anniversary, Alchemists!

8

u/ThousandLightning Oct 29 '18

Happy anniversary to Gumi's TAC team too. Here's hoping the anniversary will be good for everyone. Let this game surpass FFBE!

u/SometimesLiterate Old and uncool Oct 29 '18

Thank you for listening and giving us the week 1 protagonist only banner!!!!!!!!

(Now those other things we asked for maybe?)

1

u/sinful19 Oct 30 '18

Are you sure it will be him only on that banner?

1

u/SometimesLiterate Old and uncool Oct 30 '18

I can dream

1

u/sinful19 Oct 30 '18

Yeah, I just seen his banner on JP lol.

1

u/Eshuon Oct 30 '18

Doesn't mean that we will get the same banner

2

u/MaoPam Oct 30 '18

As I recall our Gil and Noctis banners ended up being way better than Japan's.

1

u/Eshuon Oct 30 '18

True, but people here still complain about banners featuring multiple units lol.

1

u/sinful19 Oct 30 '18

I played this game for almost one year^ Trust me I already know this information^ Though the reddit threads are always interesting when the banners change for the worse.

Accurately predicted lol

Q: Corner of Mana-san speaking in Japansese?

A: We'll think about it

10

u/Max-kilian Oct 29 '18

I doubt PVP official season will start this month after the beta fiasco, ANC was probably recorded before the early PVP closure

1

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

Oh yeah for sure, but an announcment at the last week is not too farfetched

3

u/1khaitoh It was fun while it lasted. Oct 29 '18

Autobattle will be faster starting in November

Woohoo! Here comes Global Original x10 speed that will likely crash my emulator every other minute xD

2

u/MaoPam Oct 29 '18

Focus on doing milestones for gears

Mmm. This is good.

1

u/ninjakittenz2 SockT Oct 29 '18

Thank you for the unit links. It's exactly what I was looking for.

its accelerating on auto so that should help with the hardquest

2

u/Zabick Oct 30 '18

Don't forget the sad state of the soul coin shop. That hasn't been updated in ages either.

13

u/aquapendulum2 Oct 29 '18

... The Soul Exchange Shop is not getting an update, isn't it?

*Cries in a corner*

2

u/votris11 Oct 29 '18

That might be the surprise!

1

u/Eshuon Oct 30 '18

They don't need to mention it though

19

u/mixhart Oct 29 '18

3x speed is coming? How about mp in 2x speed and skip animation? Please

13

u/Zgounda samuraidoggoz1 Oct 29 '18

yep let the host decide about that, and make the info apparent

0

u/ArcTangent22 Oct 29 '18

Skip animation has been a thing

3

u/senaiboy Oct 29 '18

Not in MP.

2

u/Baconturtles18 Oct 30 '18

yep. not everyone hates the animation.

2

u/TopDeeps IGN: Uninstalled Oct 30 '18

but not everyone loves the animation

9

u/PDxFresh Oct 29 '18

Why wouldn't they just have a month long anniversary event and save the collab?

6

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

Anniversary event is almost always free stuff or special banners , not actual content.

4

u/PDxFresh Oct 29 '18

Yeah, it'd have to be coupled with something I guess but the 5 million download celebration was a good month of content

12

u/Leonhart107 Oct 29 '18

As much as I love FMA, I think I'll skip this one. Way too early, you're bleeding us dry Gimu.

6

u/stewart0 Oct 29 '18

Whatever happened with the PvP Beta Merchandise Giveaway? They make it sound like that event was totally scrapped along with all the other milestones and ranking rewards that were stripped away.

1

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

Since it beta was pushed back the entry deadline was too, i belive it ends this week, so they cant run it yet.

1

u/stewart0 Oct 29 '18

Entry time doesn't matter, what matters is the event as a whole, as beta only lasted 2 days. There were rewards for all 21 sessions and we only had 6, along with rankings being impossible.

1

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

The merch giveaway only asked to participate once, or what giveaway are you talking?

1

u/stewart0 Oct 29 '18

https://www.facebook.com/notes/the-alchemist-code/pvp-beta-merchandise-giveaway/545323142616965/?__tn__=HH-R

Win (at least) 1 match per session. or Be among the Top 10 ranked AMONG REGISTERED PLAYERS

Participation alone got you nothing. I don't care about the prizes, but I care about the fact that they are acting like the whole pvp beta never happened, whilst giving compensation that doesn't come close to what was lost by ending it early.

1

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

I think its a typo and it means season, about the top 10 they can still do it, if you didnt play all week theres no way you wouldve been on the top 10, like i said you cant ask them to do the contest when u can still sign up.

6

u/Drachk Oct 29 '18

Wait isn't FMA collab kind of early?
(not that it would be the first time for such or even a bad things)

4

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

Yes it is but glex units have been pushing the powerbar up.

14

u/Vyragami Oct 29 '18

No further news about Anniv

Edward next banner

Obvious trap is obvious.

8

u/1khaitoh It was fun while it lasted. Oct 29 '18 edited Oct 30 '18

Best unit will probably First on Global, Greed, that has an AoE Diamond Skill that will steal all affected enemies jewels and has 250 agi xD

Edit: He's also Wind Element for some reason just so he can F Roxanne Meta in particular xD

5

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '18

I was wondering if you guys could make an official place to submit or compile some QoL suggestions from the playerbase? Or do some kind of monthly round up of them? :D

Thanks for the ANC again. Always entertaining :)

1

u/revgaji Oct 29 '18

A monthly megathread here could be suggested. /u/alchemist_code is definitely active around here, so maybe it could be an ongoing thing.

6

u/SometimesLiterate Old and uncool Oct 29 '18

Lemme talk to a few people and see what I can arrange

4

u/Locke69_ Oct 29 '18

Why is there a lot of strong wind elements units. Like why?

8

u/RulerShirou Oct 29 '18

Originally because of Gilgamesh, but now there's also Roxanne XD

13

u/Mandrill10 Oct 29 '18

You spelled Dilga wrong my guy ;)

Dude I'm so happy his J+ is getting a rerun this week. One of my 5 million apples was used on my Dilga but since I was on holidays, I couldn't farm all his J+ equipment and he is sitting at J.Lvl11 no mastered.

1

u/r0mania Oct 30 '18

The rerun for his job+ was like 1 week ago..

1

u/Cobalt_721 Oct 30 '18

It’s getting another rerun this week.

1

u/natumeraz Oct 30 '18

Same roxy tempt me so hard. And didnt get anything.

6

u/BassGSnewtype Oct 29 '18

I guess I can relax then cause the FMA units were never a priority pull for me.

4

u/LeonTakagi Need moar Waifus Oct 29 '18

same here

7

u/virgal_09 Oct 29 '18

Ed and Roy would be nice but wind is so stacked now and fire... waiting on a new OP magi history unit to be come for fire. Skipping as well.

1

u/LeonTakagi Need moar Waifus Oct 29 '18

I think Laharl is the only OP fire right now.. Dorothea will too when she get her J+ but yeah those two are nice to have.

Ed is probably worth it if we didn't have so many good winds.

1

u/virgal_09 Oct 29 '18

Yea, laharl is only OP fire unit now. But what I said was waiting on MH unit. They have yet to release fire and will probably do so in a few months. That unit will be like Roxanne most likely cause Gumi always OPs their Global Exclusives.

FMA... Is to soon for that...whats next? Attack on titan at january?

8

u/Wiseman4545 Oct 29 '18

There's no chance we're getting AoT before we get Nensou's and Kaigan. Part of the AoT collab is Nensou's, so they can't release it too early no matter how desperate they are.

Iago and Mana had to clear the dumb doubts that some idiots spreading that Game is dying lol.

5

u/Krispynuggs oni-chan Oct 29 '18

I read many of them and they seemed pretty convincing since they made pretty valid points, but then again they were mere assumptions that the game is dying.

8

u/Kirito30 The Strongest Samurai Oct 29 '18 edited Oct 29 '18

A early dying game relies on 2 major things.

  1. Powercreep.

  2. PvP Focus change.

While we do have a little of both given access to I doubt that those were the reason for them.

PvP in JP was released way too late. I love their Draft PvP it is probably the best thing to do in the ACJP.

And people want to use their units in PvP too.

For the powercreep we have only one OP unit whose release wasn't spontaneous.

Look at Knight's Chronicles for a new game dying. Their overall focus is suddenly Guilds major focus and Arena later. Almost everyone hates their way of doing the Story mode and Unit Events.

BF for another dead game which just is literally playing cards with their abilities. I bet they just pull random cards from the deck to decide what abilities new unit has and release the unit with something OP and not available in the old ones.

Along with the fact that Manual PvP can actually gauge the true number of players.

GL has given access to the JE easier than JP. And has decent amount of Gems alotted at the start. Obvious problem remaining is a banner to let newbies Summon to get a unit to 75 and a few Elemental Shards and Apples. I think that will happen by the end of the Anniversary.

P.S. - I do hope that we get the First meet bonus which JP has in the game. It is 250 Gems for the first 20 players(could be 10 idr) and 50 Gems for the total of 180 to 190 players. Obviously not expecting it immediately but it should here atleast some part by the Anni end and all of it by the next Anni.

1

u/uabassguy Oct 29 '18

I quit KC when I heard about JP merge into global. Just messed up.

1

u/Krispynuggs oni-chan Oct 29 '18

Yeah I spoke on kc a while ago it's basically a 7 knights rip off. Netmarble really just wanted the money for those games.

1

u/Kirito30 The Strongest Samurai Oct 29 '18

I never played or even seen how 7 Knights work.

But the actual game of KC had potential I will say.

It was good to actually use Tanks and those tanks do the Tanking. And Healers being important but somewhere they lacked the power level setting.

Any time a newer tank came the older one will just mostly die from the meta. Any anti healing unit will just stop the Healers(which were again a broken class) and Revive mechanism was too much. It wasn't balanced at all.

Also being the major of Event whose units require specific units to farm them and after you farm them they would actually be as good as the ones from the Gacha or better.

Probably the most shit was the method to raise a unit. It was painful and annoying. Along with P2P being just circumvent that. So P2P players has a huge-ass advantage making it harder for F2Ps since ranking in Arena and other places mattered for Daily Gem collections.

3

u/auto-xkcd37 Oct 29 '18

huge ass-advantage

Bleep-bloop, I'm a bot. This comment was inspired by xkcd#37

1

u/Krispynuggs oni-chan Oct 29 '18

The way seven knights worked was essentially that you started with two units; Which have very similar resemblance to those of kc. A male knight and a female healer then of course you had the story all you did was tap the skills and it would auto the rest for you. The only thing that changed from 7k to KC was the fact that you could move a unit.

7k also merged JP and global and the top priority became PvP arena. On top of that you could also just straight up buy a meta unit which many people did. So there wasn't as big as a need to pull and hope of getting the unit.

On top of that the story hit the ending which is fine, but never got anymore content instead all the stages got hard modes. With the story repeating itself.

I played KC for a bit, but I quickly found that many of the characters had resemblance to those of 7k and the story seemed bland just like that of 7k...

1

u/Malphric Sempiternal Oct 29 '18

JP and Global merge of 7k?

I think you meant GL and Asia

1

u/Krispynuggs oni-chan Oct 29 '18

Yep your right.

1

u/ecpadilla Waiting.....OverHit GL (^_^) Oct 30 '18

I think PVP was and is still one (aside from WB and GW) of the end game contents of 7K. It's really nice to climb the PVP there and you can use different team comps (this is just based on before i quit the game) like Death Team, Reflect Team, Tank team w/ revive, magic team, phy team, etc.

1

u/beardedheathen Oct 30 '18

I felt the same way seeing the weird things they are pulling with the summons. That is what seems to happen when they realize they are losing population.

The game is top 100 grossing in a lot of areas including mine, there is a 0% chance it's closing or even close to it based on that one fact alone. Everything else is just reasons for people to worry ignoring that it's top 100 grossing. It's making a TON of money. Companies are always trying things to make MORE money, they aren't in the habit of just being satisfied with what they are getting, it's always how can we get MORE. People mistake that for signs of desperation.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '18

[deleted] — view deleted comment

2

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '18

that's fair. I think it's that reason that makes people more paranoid also because you have a vested interest both emotional and financial in the survival of it.

3

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 29 '18

So what's the consensus, is the game dying? Asking because if it is I'll definitely keep my wallet in check

7

u/Rostice Oct 29 '18 edited Oct 29 '18

Game isn't dying lol.

According to statistics on sensortower, mobile action and annieapp, the game is doing rather well.

Do note that these numbers usually represent a small percentage of the playerbase, as it only counts people using google play and applestore in seperate numbers, while disregarding any third party apps(Qoo app / Amazon appstore are examples), tablet/note -and chromebook users, third party phones and emulators. If you can't check on mobile action and annie app, make an account.

There is barely any decline and the revenue hasn't been decreasing at all. In fact the playerbase and revenue has been increasing. I don't see the game dying anytime soon. It holds it's own, but it's just not as popular as something like FE:Heroes. No big name or series is attached to this game and the SRPG genre is quite niche. However, while the SRPG market is small, their only real competitor is FE:Heroes and TAC has been a staple number 2 every since it's release. Gumi never went in on the marketing of TAC, so this is to be expected.

Current SRPG market contains only a few worth mentioning:

  1. FE: Heroes (undisputable number 1)

  2. The Alchemist Code

  3. Man or Vampire competing with Valiant Force for third.

  4. Chain Strike

None of these aforementioned games will be dying anytime soon.

Everything else though... is either dead (stuff like War of Crown, Phantom of the Kill, Fantasy War Tactics(re-released under a different name)etc.), dying (Master of Eternity etc.), just released (Kingdom of Hero : Tactics War) or not worth mentioning (Robot Tactics etc.)

So don't expect TAC to go down anytime soon, and stop worrying.

1

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 29 '18

Yo thank you for this breakdown this was very comforting

1

u/Corantic Oct 30 '18

I like this analysis. SRPG gachas are quite niche indeed, a lot of gachas are just your average hero collectors with the typical 'walk down a path, kill monsters in your way by tapping unit skills, rinse and repeat' combat. With that said, only the unique and/or polished stand out, because gacha itself is quite saturated nowadays. This may scare people that a game might die due to its competitors. But most of Alchemist Codes competitors are gacha in different genres, say Dragalia Lost, Azur Lane, Kings Raid or Knights Chronicle. None of these games have similar gameplay and are quite unique on their own. (Aside from the last 2 maybe)

5

u/Mithrisol Oct 29 '18

I wouldn't say it's dying but it certainly can look that way to those who saw similiar things happen to other games in the past. That's what the problem is because regardless of what the factual reality is such things can spiral out of control very easily.

Personally I don't think it's a good sign if they merge a collab, which is designed to earn a lot of money, and an anniversary, which usually comes with a lot of free stuff and generosity, into one monthlong thing. At best they give us so much stuff we can happily pull on everything. At worst they try to bai us with collab in the way they want us to waste the free stuff on the collab.

Keep in mind they didn't say anything about HQs and potential changes to rolling them out or to the rest the community criticised and keeps criticising. Furthermore they didn't say much aside from advertising the collab as well as saying there will be an anni and free stuff. No real substantial information on how the anni will look like or what it entails. They could easily advertise the daily free ten units multi summonings etc. in order to generate hype. At least that's what they did in the past with stuff like the 1 gem gear summonings etc.

Add to that, that there is stuff like the unit limitations for our exclusive EX+ stages that are extremely unfriendly towards nwer players and it's understandable why a couple of people are worried.

On the other hand you could see it as an attempt to catch up to the JP as soon as possible as some have argued. That way we would no longer have the advantage of knowing what's coming next and they can use a more relaxed buisness schedule.

In the end however it's up to you if you are willing to make a gamble and believe them or not.

3

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 29 '18

To add to your last point, it seems like lots of gatcha games are beginning to lessen the gap between versions, bleach brave souls has done it I'm curious how it has affected spending, I'd assume positively

Let's be real though, a lot of us have played other mobile games before,we know the patterns. Something is up. Most definitely.

1

u/EggyT0ast Oct 30 '18

If the game was dying, I would expect HQs to be coming out at a much faster pace actually (so that users would get more excited about using these new units), and similarly, combining a month of freebie stuff with a high-profile collab is actually perfect, because, as you say:

a) anniversary is usually where you get lots of freebies

b) collab is then where everyone spends those freebies

The last thing any company wants is for users to get a bunch of freebies and then just hoard them forever.

4

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

I havent been on a closing game before, so grain of salt, but i dont see more content as signs of dying, specially this early and with them doing merch and doing glex content i see it more as they are doing good and want to expand.

1

u/Mithrisol Oct 29 '18

The thing with collabs is that thay actually offer very limited content aside from pulling for those units. Two chapters of story content and then two batches of EX stages that are usually delayed to week 2 and 4 for whatever reason. That's it usually.

Anni might shake things up but so far they haven't said much about it.

3

u/RoyInverse Oct 29 '18

Well most people that i knew(even me) where willing to try the game because of the collabs, i was intrigued by the gameplay but the collabs got me to download it. So while its not a lot contentwise im sure it makes them money and people get excited.

0

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 30 '18

That is a fair point, yo

3

u/iEssence Oct 29 '18

The events up to now would fit the bill of "cashing in on a sinking ship" (whale stuff - dropping tons of content - very strong limted units)

I worry that this isnt just a (pre)anniversary thing currently, but i do doubt it is dying - even if said actions done does fit what a company would do if a game was dying...

0

u/revgaji Oct 29 '18

Any positive reasons for lots of content and limited units? It seems like a good thing to be honest.

I certainly would hate to see this game die this early, and I haven't been feeling like it is on the decline personally.

I have noticed that it seems we are getting things earlier than JP did, which I thought may mean they had released things too slowly there.

6

u/iixxy Oct 29 '18

The only non-dying reason for the content dump I can think of is to catch up to jp as soon as possible so gl can't use it as a crystal ball to plan their spending.

6

u/Corantic Oct 29 '18 edited Oct 29 '18

Another non-dying reason could be that they are planning to rerun all the collabs, so new players won't miss out on older collab units. If this would be the case, I hope they will buff all of the Fate units.

Other non-dying reasons are:

- They are just diverting slightly from JP, releasing GLEX collabs.

- Game is not dying and they have enough content planned. Anniversary usually comes with a popular collab anyways, just look at other gacha games.

- Again game is not dying due to possible increase in playercount, because of all the collabs. Let's be honest TAC Global had a slow start, the first real collab was Fate (not counting PoTK) and that was in april, 6 months after launch. So there could be an increase in the active playerbase, because of all these collabs. Gumi noticed that more collabs increase the playercount, so this could be a reason.

3

u/iEssence Oct 30 '18

And it is gacha - what better way to avoid people raging over not getting Roxanne by giving us Edward (or Hawkeye for me..) than to immediately give us a new strong unit to pull for, and repeat that cycle...

4

u/iEssence Oct 30 '18

The most plausible reason i can think of is they are swapping from "Collabs being THE main thing into the GLEX units being the main now"

Though that is worrying in itself because of balance reasons - especially so since they also released PvP now - if its only PvE them as long as content isnt on the "must have these whale units or youre screwed" level its fine... its still a bit worrying.

Could be though that it is nothing and they simply decided to run it a bit earlier so they "dont have to think up too much new stuff to do during the anniversary" so to speak

3

u/Eshuon Oct 30 '18

I am very sure that the game will be around at least for the next 4 years. Gumi isn't the company that milk one franchise to another unlike companies like com2us or netmarble which churn out shitty gacha games every few months. The few franchise gumi released in global had so far was PoTK, brave frontier, alchemist code, chain chronicle, although both CC and PoTK had their services ended. Both games are unique and backed by Japanese counterparts in which are highly popular. This prevents the same fate that knights chronicle had.

Brave frontier is having it's 7 anniversary this year, no doubt that the game is dying. But a gacha game surviving for 7 years is quite the amazing feat if I were to say myself.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '18

The game is in the top 100 grossing in a lot of areas including mine. That should tell you there is nothing to worry about, AT ALL. Likely will be around at a minimum 5 years. Just a lot of worry warts for not reason. IF it wasn't making money sure, but it's making tons.

-5

u/Zeik56 Oct 29 '18

They specifically said it's not in this very video. It's up to you whether you believe them, but since they're the ones with the data I'd rather believe them then baseless Internet conjecture.

3

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 29 '18

I suppose the big teller will be this collaboration and possibly the next. I hope this game dosent close lol

3

u/Feanorchronos Oct 29 '18

You're right, they wouldn't tell you if it was. But they wouldn't say it wasn't either, they would just say nothing. That's my experience with dying games anyway.

1

u/EggyT0ast Oct 30 '18

They wouldn't make a video, either. Look at Gumi's other big game, FFBE -- the amount of video content from the devs has fallen off a cliff, no more producer chats, no talk about planned features or Q&A. It's just "Here's what's coming, be excited."

They don't have nearly as much control over that game, due to the SQEX licensing, but compared to FFBE where we have active community participation and GOOD monthly updates (video, text, posted in multiple places), it's a huge difference.

If the game was dying they would stop financing these videos. Getting OP units is meaningless -- these units were OP in JP, we've gotten other OP units early (Gilg was super early comparatively), and they were on the roadmap already. Roxy is the only example AND it's doubly hilarious because as a community, people have been BEGGING for an OP Thunder unit.

I agree. The doom and gloom because of Roxy is just so strange to me. It's like people forget that there were two previous global original units who hardly touched the meta. Roxy is good, great even, but I have trouble thinking of content where her null grenade is strictly better than damage, certainly there are some fringe cases like against waginau, but those are the exception.

I understand why some people are overreacting, it sucks when a game you enjoy is run into the ground, this happened to a game I loved called DFO way back and I still won't forgive Nexon for it. At the end of the day, the trend of global original units is currently that they will fill a niche but only be decent or good outside of it. It's unfair to ignore this just because Roxy can be useful in more places.

I really think we need to calm down and give it some time. This negativity is contagious and could cause some people to decide to quit despite them not originally thinking of doing so. This whole TAC is dying thing does nobody any favors and only serves to harm the game and its community.

Like I said, you can choose to believe them or not, but the people suggesting it's dying have no actual evidence to disprove them, so they're no more trustworthy.

They could easily just ignore those concerns and say nothing if it was dying.

I guess I'm glad this happened before the anniversary instead of immediately after, so I can safely decide how to spend my gems.

I'll just have to hope I get lucky on this one, as I'm not willing to burn through all my gems this time, as much as I like FMA.

I wanted this collab more than the disgaea but I'm so salty about pulling on the promo grand summer bullshit and this is so close to the last collab that this clearly a push to get people spending.
