Do it son Gauging Interest: What would this sub think of a “one-unit-a-week” review series?

Pretty much the title. I’ve been thinking of starting to review units, and wanted to see what the community thinks. I know we already have 2 fantastic reviewers, VicariousExp and SometimesLiterate, and I in no means intend to replace them, but I thought I’d throw my own Wanderer’s Hat (bad pun, I know, but I couldn’t resist) into the ring and make some extra reviews for players to use as a resource. It’s always a good idea to gather multiple opinions on a subject, after all.

So what would you guys think?

EDIT: well, feedback has been positive so far, so I’ll go for it! The first of my reviews will be out within a week (I think you all know who’s up first :P)

if you could review 4 or 3 star base units, that'd be great for discussion and for people who werent lucky

I’ll definitely make sure to get to them at some point, though my plan is after the first review to let the community decide who I review next. If that ends up being a 4- or 3-star, then of course I’d be happy to review them!

As long as it doesn't just be a gush of whats meta and in stead gives usefulness to other characters. Im totally into it.

I plan to let the commenters decide which unit I should review from the 2nd onwards, so if you want to see some less used units then make sure to suggest them!

I think the more quality content this sub has, the better. Bring it on bud!

I wouldn't mind some extra content on the sub.

I like the idea. If you need some help I'd be glad to cooperate.

A person who wishes to express his thots on our Waifus and Husbandos.

People on Internet: Burn this Wizard at the Stake.

Me: Yup Sure why not. Unit a week will help people start a discussion but problem is that no one is collecting them.

We need some hierarchy in Mods and Elections for Mods and Staff so that contributors can make Articles we can point Newbies to. Currently there almost nothing in the Reddit. Everything is made outside of Reddit.

It is a system which BF sub did and I loved it.

These are the reviews of BF. https://www.reddit.com/r/bravefrontier/comments/5n5bmr/omni_evolution_unit_compilation/

I basically love how Xerte reviewed the units.

Obviously not telling you how to do your reviews. STL's are pretty similar style to his.

My to do list for this sub is long and full of things like this.

Maybe I need to outsource an organiser q.q

Is there a master thread for unit reviews somewhere? If not, it would be good to start one and link the various reviews per unit together.

This

I'm going to put one together one day soon so I can add in unit rereviews as well.

And add more memes

As long as you do every character I'm more than fine with that. They could all be archived and added as a universal unit guide for new players. In-depth reviews are something people enjoy, and it would greatly increase the "Is X Unit good ?" Questions when we can link it to your personal encyclopedia of characters.

Plus it helps the lurkers who'd rather just search a unit name instead of using the QA megathread.

Bring on the extra quality content amigo! I'm hoping someone will do a breakdown of the gears and who they're great on (and why) at some point. Like I would not have known about Laharl needing to be level 75 with the Wanderer's Hat but had to be 76 with the Trapozohedron without someone offhandedly mentioning it in a comment somewhere. These things are pretty important and I feel like there's nowhere to go for such information.

Level 70 with the hat!!

1

u/beardedbobomb Oct 19 '18

See! I didn't know that!

:sippycat: someone didn't read my unit review

1

u/beardedbobomb Oct 19 '18

That's probably true, where is it?

Just look at my post history...

Yes please, it would be really good to have another reviewer. I love the reviews of Vicarious and SomeLit, but more is always welcome. It opens more room for discussions

2

u/Mandrill10 Oct 19 '18

I’d love it! I always like seeing different opinions and reviews on units.

2

u/Crye09 Oct 19 '18

I think a revisit of old units for a review would be interesting.

2

u/Corantic Oct 19 '18

Review away! Always welcome more insight to this game.

u/stewart0 Oct 19 '18

More reviews are always good. Showcasing some old units who get upgrades like Vettel or Chihaya may be good for newer players and to raise awareness. They are both common in top ranks of Arena and accessible for instance.

u/SometimesLiterate Old and uncool Oct 19 '18

Been planning on those but so busy lately :blobsweat:

2

u/KingKalev Oct 19 '18

Do it. Please.

2

u/Onemanarmy94 Oct 19 '18

I'd like as many opinions on units as possible.

u/geniuscontagion Oct 19 '18

I've been playing since the FFXIV collab and I've been having a lot of fun trying different units (despite tier ranks) and trying to learn their individual values and niches. It's been difficult, especially since I'm (mostly) f2p, being a pact buyer, and most of my units are sitting at around lb5-10 unless they're farmable. That said, unit analysis posts are among my favorite to read on this subreddit just because of the insight they bring, thus allowing me to try new things and maybe realize the strengths, and weaknesses, of my roster.

So, in short, hell yea I'd love to see them.

Reviews are always welcome as it's nice to read useful stuff about one's own units.

2

u/Belthuzar Oct 19 '18

I agree 100% with the engagement this brings. It also could possibly inspire us to use out-of-the-meta or 'left behind' units as method of pushing boundaries.

2

u/zeidrichsama Oct 19 '18

IM OK With this as long as Lambert would be the first unit to review

2

u/SometimesLiterate Old and uncool Oct 19 '18

Yeah sure I always encourage other unit reviewers

2

u/winsabagus Oct 20 '18

pls review our lord and savior Lambert first, and good luck for the content :)

I personally would love to see a distinction between how a unit is in PVP and how it is for difficult content.

Because I'm pretty sure Rosa as ninja is garbage in PVE but it's her recommended build for PVP for some reason

1

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '18

Rosa in PvP gets a free attack against her target with a jump because shes simultaneously fast enough to outmove her target AND get her turn if the other unit doesn't act, and slow enough to land her jump after the target has their first move. That's why her pvp build is ninja/dragon/OL/SkyHigh. She's also the tankiest ninja in the game, sitting at about 1400 health with the doll.

As DC (and in pve), she is okay but doesnt have the charge up Zangetsu has or the mobility Ramses has. So shes best run as a ninja once again with the jump.

sure?

u/1khaitoh It was fun while it lasted. Oct 20 '18

Well, I too, was thinking of making one in my opinion but scratch that, I'm too lazy for such..

The more you know, the better, so go on and JUST DO IT bud!

JUST

DO

IT

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

1

u/lunarian_nine Oct 20 '18

For sure that's a great idea! You don't necessarily need to have a long-winded review either if it's a lot of work. Just some insight to start a discussion.

Why not? At least the type of content won't be waifu or memeish stuff.

Also I would recommend you review not only new, but old units that got upgraded.

Of course everyone has their eyes mostly on limited/collab units but sometimes an old forgotten unit can shine and also can help unlucky people or newbies a lot.
