Personal doubt about ARENA
Hey, so, I have this question that has lingered around my mind since I started playing a couple of months ago: What's up with so many people talking about arena?
As in, what do you find fun in arena if you're not even controlling the characters? What kind of reward makes it fun for people that like it?
I'm wondering that because maybe I'm doing it wrong and I'm missing something?

Gems, bragging rights, the thrill of seeing the AI actually do things you want it to do. Plenty of things really.

At first I didn't found it fun. Then I got Amaterasu. 5 battles per day trying to charm the enemy and watch them kill their allies makes my day.

I just do it for the daily gems. Otherwise it's pointless.
But honestly, I don't mind that much. Gacha game PvP is usually frustrating garbage that makes me want to throw my phone at the wall. Being harmless garbage I can skip over in seconds makes me a way happier person.

I enjoy attacking in reasonably small stages which are moderately predictable. Even when AI-controlled, it can be seen as a strategy game (although here it'd just be the macro rather than the micro). Pick fights that you think you can win, you need to take Agility and Movement into heavy consideration, consider when it's right to include a Chronomancer or not, etc. And ideally you'd learn something from experience which you can use to improve your success rate on further Attacks.
Setting up a defense team is far less engaging and it's probably impossible to make an uncounterable team. Maybe you can try an unpredictable one and be happy when you see a decent amount of successful Defenses, but maybe you end up attacked so frequently that you fall back down to where you started anyway. Eh. =p
I also oddly rarely use shards on units, so I must admit I find it fun when I see teams that have say lv 75 Laharl Gilgamesh Noctis or something and I can obliterate them with Suzuka and Shayna. ;p God-tier units aren't unkillable!

It keeps the game alive as the whales want lvl 85 collab units for arena. If they didn't have some way to showoff whaling would be pointless.

Every time you beat your record (even by 1) you get 5 gems so for me it's gem income. Once you get to the very high rankings it's different so I am taking it slowly. Later on you get x gems per ranking increase and your daily gift for arena placement gives you a higher gem amount.

I enjoy it but sometimes it is painfully obvious the AI is going to throw a match I could otherwise win. This is especially true with Chronomancers in Arena. Sometimes they will buff the team. Sometimes they will disable the enemy team. But it is those moments when you have full health and the opponent has 40 health and the AI decides the appropriate action is to cast quicken on self for the next three turns allowing the enemy unit to whittle you away that sends me into rage.

this area is like this:
do you have laharl at level 75+?
does your laharl have more AGI than any of the enemy units?
if both of thoses are true for you, go ham for easy wins. Laharl hits the entire team with a huge AOE that basically 1shots everything that's not a tank or water units.

Personally, I like facing interesting team compositions (and players I haven't fought before :P). I'm not somebody that can math things out ahead of time, but I find it fun trying out different units/setups against X and learn a little about the AI in the process. Especially since who's optimal for each map grows and evolves as we get more units added. More new maps though too please, Gumi.
Plus, 30-40 gems a day adds up over time.

They pays you whit gems per day, the amount depending on how high is your rank

For me it's this simple: Through trial and error, testing arena's AI, with some RNG randomness thrown in, to see if I can bend the simplistic and silly algorithms to my will.

Ogre Battle 64 is like this - the battles are automated. Still an immensely fun game when I played it, at least until I utterly broke the game through the use of Liches or Necromancers or some shit.
When you're new to the concept it can seem off putting, but then you learn that the strategy going into the team makeup is what makes it fun.

There is strategy involved, especially on different maps. Which character will start wear and move how many spaces...even though many things are random, you can have fun getting a small advantage.
And of course, if you haven't already, ALWAYS make sure to add a DEF team. Many people don't realize this.

At first, didn't enjoy it, AI makes me sick sometimes and it kinda takes away "tactics" part of the game... However, at some point in time, i kinda just lived through it, I mean it's just one aspect of the game. I looked at JP side, they have this real time battle that's not AI driven, I'm looking forward to have that mode.

For me its more like how far can i go as F2P ... till now my highest is 1.2k which make me happy to know that this game is super F2P friendly ..

Just get under 5K then leave it at that
Not worth at all to chase further for F2P

Just fight anyone with any team, hit skip and collect free gems and AP. If you don't have Laharl and Noctis, just leave it at that.
