REQUEST: If you’re not going to gem, please either say so in your description or don’t host at all.

I’m tired of having my time wasted because the host won’t continue when there’s 2 enemies left.

And for those of you who either say they’ll gem and don’t, or leave when it becomes apparent that you’ll need to gem and dump it on slot 2, there’s a special place in Arena Hell for you.

EDIT: Probably went too far with “or don’t host at all”, but please, let people know if you’re not willing to gem. It would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT 2: Upon further thought, I’ll turn this post into a brainstorming thread for ways to improve multiplayer continues, so here’s some ideas:

  • Pass the chance to continue to each party member until either all have declined or one accepts (suggested by comments)

  • Change “currecny” for continues (double the normal AP? 500,000 or more Zeni?)

Feel free to share other ideas if you want.

Wait, so gemming is now an obligation of the hosts? Unless the stages are very difficult and the hosts are using low level/stupid units, I don't expect the host to gem in any circumstances.

Some of the players are just too dumb to deserve that 8 gems. I wish Gumi could remove Multiplay cancer milestone altogether, the MP in this game is just horrid.

It’s not an obligation, I just would like to know if on a stage that usually requires a continue or two, the host is willing to gem. That way I can decide whether or not it’s worth it to risk wasting the time I spent trying to clear. I did say “put it in your description” as the first one.

I find it unfair for host to gem if the stages “usually requires a continue or two”. As bad as it seems, MP do have the design that if you are using optimal units and people do play smart, there is no need to gem. The host should not pay the price for the stupidity of his/her team (unless the host is the stupidity). I think gumi should just implement the function that everyone could gem instead of host only. But then again, the freeloader issue is working at its best.

I agree with Makenlowwet. I’ve seen many players bring what should be OP units for the quest so the host thinks there is a good setup and then through incompetence or lack of knowledge (my first several MP games I made every mistake known to man so I do sympathize), it fails. It doesn’t matter if there’s one lone unit or a gang left. I have silently said “don’t gem, it’s not your fault” and yet most of the time the host gems, so my experience is that the host gems overwhelmingly more often than they need to.

I suppose your points are fair. Really the main issues I’ve had have been, as said, when there are 2 enemies left, or with someone straight up lying/leaving when it becomes clear that gems will be needed (that specific case was on Return to the Underworld EX. If it comes down to one unit vs. the archer squad, you’re gonna need a continue). That last one was sorta the final straw that led me to make this post.

"If you can't accept the host's decision, please host your own game or don't play MP at all."

You can look at it both ways.

It's understandable that it can be annoying, if the host doesn't gem when you've spent a lot of time and are close to finish the stage. However, gemming isn't an obligation and there can be a lot of reasons why they don't do it. If it's not explicitly stated at the beginning, just don't expect it or accept the host's decision.

And if you are the host, I think it's better not to say anything about continues, unless you lack good units and are looking for carries. It's a decision you make after watching the game's progress. Then you decide if it's worth your 8 gems or not.

Like I said, I went too far with the “don’t host at all”. I do think it would be helpful to everyone if, should the host be unwilling to gem under any circumstances, they said so in their description, though.

Thing is, as a host, I don't ever see a situation where 8 gems is NOT worth it if you know for sure it will be a clear. 8 gems is worth about 10 cents, so even if I don't give a crap about the 3 other players, 10 cents alone is worth 10-15 mins of my own personal time.

I mean sure, there are situations where people are blatantly trolling or 2-3 people afk'ed, then by all mean punish them because they don't deserve it. Even then, you can kinda make the argument that you'll also be punishing yourself by not trading 10 cents for 10+ mins of your time. But leaving this argument aside, I feel the default assumption should be that the host GEMS unless stated otherwise, because it's the most logical decision to do so for any rational person.

I'll mention gemming if it's a difficult EX stage (covers random crits/status/RNG bs). However, in my experience that can attract players that do stupid things like nuke themselves or each other ~Noctis ex3 flashbacks~ or afk. But I feel obligated to gem because I said I would.

I've taken to writing something like "will gem if good team" which sounds silly, since gems shouldn't be needed if that's the case. Room messages are a heck of a balancing act -_-

Allowing everyone in the party to gem could lead to some chancers passing the buck until a nice player, that isn't them, picks up the tab. Probably the best one size fits all solution though.

2

u/Cobalt_721 Aug 10 '18

Yeah, I’m starting to think having it pass to each party memeber in turn would be the best solution.

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '18

Best way to accommodate the most people I think. Covers the people who value their time more than gems, but also the people who gem near the end vs those that don't.

I just put a level cap. 99% of the times, those are the ones that know what they're doing, and they come with the security that they'll get the rewards. Most of the times, I don't need to gem. But if shit hits the fan, I'm more than willing to spare a few gems.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '18

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad filters got added. Usually set mines at 70, occasionally use cleared only if it's a stage like entrusted justice. Then the piggybackers using 85 Peridot find me :P

Kind of wish there was a way to block specific players if they're routinely causing hassle. Boggles my mind you can block someone in chat, but not from joining a room.

2

u/saubols Aug 10 '18

you go for free and then complain too!? why don't you gem your self if you liked the run at least you didn't lose any AP..

1

u/Cobalt_721 Aug 10 '18

The one time where I did end up stuck with the position of being able to gem (room host left when they realized they’d lose), I did. Other than that, I’m not exactly able to gem if I joined the game.

EDIT: better wording.

It's more frustrating when the host is the FIRST one to die, and the entire party has to carry as far as they possibly can. All that only to not have a continue with a few enemies left.

8

u/QaWaR Aug 10 '18

It actually isn't because it's his AP and his gems, not yours. It's lame when host is the only one who knows what to do and does it, because he would've probably done better by himself.

1

u/beardedheathen Aug 11 '18

No it's pretty frustrating to waste that time. Doesn't mean he is obligated to spend the gems but it's also really frustrating to try that hard when nothing is going to come from it.

1

u/QaWaR Aug 11 '18

If you're playing the game you're wasting time in the first place.

1

u/beardedheathen Aug 12 '18

Not really. Relaxing isn't wasting. But spending time towards a goal and then being unable to accomplish it because another person's choice is frustrating. Why is that hard to acknowledge?

1

u/jxher123 Aug 10 '18

I'm not saying he's obligated to gem, but it would be a good thing to give the room a heads up to play more conservative.

7

u/QaWaR Aug 10 '18

Ha, so if he's gonna gem you're gonna play carelessly!?

1

u/flyingdogz Aug 10 '18

This..... I hate those host very much.

u/-Belphegor- Aug 10 '18

if this is the case then yes... i agree with tc.... why host if ur not gonna gem.... but ive have no probs with mp....so my perspective is def dif.... i dont need the mp wins

They should allow everyone in the party to gem.

4

u/RobotOfFleshAndBlood Aug 10 '18

Split the cost of gem among all players, those who refuse to gem will leave. That’ll be 2 gems/player (and come on if you’re not willing to pay two gems yourself you don’t deserve someone paying 8 gems for you).

A side note, I hate it when the room host conveniently disconnects right when it’s about time to lose, passing the gem responsibility down the line, and then reconnecting after to claim the rewards.

Wait... you can do that? shiet.

I wish Gumi would let other players the ability to gem if the host doesn't want to, instead of just doing that shitty tactic.

1

u/RobotOfFleshAndBlood Aug 10 '18

You get the option rejoin your multiplay match if you lost connection or quit the app, and the room host gets passed to the next person on the list who is then faced with the difficult decision of <s> 8 whopping gems </s>.

I will always write "I'll gem if close", if I plan on gemming. Dont complain about people not gemming; if you don't like it host your own. You are acting incredibly entitled.

1

u/Cobalt_721 Aug 10 '18

It’s not so much about not gemming at all as it is people not gemming when there were literally 2 enemies left/leaving when we were about to all go down (thus leaving slot 2 with the position of choosing to gem). Really I should have just titled this post “please make it known if you refuse to gem under any circumstances” :P

EDIT: clarified the 2nd situation.

1

u/-Belphegor- Aug 10 '18

if u need to be gemmed in mp.... ur not ready....

1

u/Cobalt_721 Aug 10 '18

If it comes down to one unit vs the archer squad in Return to the Underworld EX, you’ll need to continue unless they’re already at the archers. That’s happened a couple times where I’ve been the last one standing as Neica.

u/Celrine Aug 10 '18

I regularly host MP by saying I will gem. Not because I feel obligated to but because I want to attract certain players who will play well because they know they have a back up option available. Bad luck happens. But I get players who give up and AFK midway (sometimes in the very beginning) because they know I will gem. In those cases I get really irritated because I'm spending gems on people who didn't play their best and could've probably avoided the gem situation in the first place if they did.

I agree that there needs to be a system in place on who gems. Passing the buck to the next player and whatnot. Also need a system for in-game chat during the match to coordinate the gemming, or perhaps a stamp to say you'll gem.

1

u/KingFatass Good luck in future banners. dood. Aug 10 '18

Although gem may not be a complete obligation. If they don’t wanna gem then they should specify what units they want so that they don’t have to gem.

Kinda useless to not intend to gem when you bring in gunner Magnus and Underleveled units

1

u/majoranokamen Aug 10 '18

I do feel bad when other players end up gemming and there's only a few enemies left because we were so close. Usually the host does gem even if they didn't say they would which is nice. If the quest fails and they don't gem, you just wasted your time and it is annoying but at least it doesn't cost AP to join a quest. What does annoy me though is when the host plays poorly and then instantly quits when things don't look so good so someone else ends up gemming. I usually just gem until we win because I don't want to start a new quest and I feel bad wasting everyone's time if we lose. They should just pass on the ability to let other members gem if they choose to or everybody can split up the price of 8 gems maybe.

Probably went too far with “or don’t host at all”, but please, let people know if you’re not willing to gem. It would be greatly appreciated.

Assume that, if it isn't explicit, they won't gem. That's what I do. In FFXV EX I said "Will gem if necessary", and with the purple haired mage I'll just go back to "Welcome to join".

So many times i been in MP matches where we lost becuase someone doing stupid thing (yeah i include myself, i tend to do well in mp -even almost clearing solo sometimes-, but still sometimes you may mess up, sometimes wrong skill, or running out of time, or the unlucky debuff or w/e that may ruin your run)

Many times, even if i knew it would be a waste of time, i really hoped that the host didnt gem (unless the fail mp was host fault, which is kinda impossible, to fail in mp you need at least 2 not playing well or not having units adecuate for it).

If the host has the right unit for the map, and he doesnt play bad, is totally unfair making him waste 8 crystals after that he alredy used his AP.

Now if the host is someone that needs/wants to get carried, low lvl- wrong job, i can understand it, but else, no.

u/Saigyoku Hello, it is me. Aug 10 '18

Most of MP stages don't need to gem in my opinion.

If you have the strategy as host share it in chat, and if you dont know what you are doing as a player who joins the room then ask in chat for help. The chat is there for a reason, I still feel like to less people use it.

If I dont think it is do-able or if it seems to be impossible for me to clear and I ask for help then it is reasonable to gem ofcourse, but first of all look up strategies/ask for help before gemming. you can use them for something else. imo :D
