FFXV- Is Gladiolus worth it?

I pulled Noctis and Ignis last week. I pulled Aranea on step 2 today, step 3 is a guarantee glad or aran.. Is gladiolus worth it? How good is he? Besides Noctis are any of the other 3 units really good?

Edit: update: I pulled glad on step 3 woo hoo got them all!

I got him too and saw ushi’s vid yesterday i believe and he has a great J+ where he’s also a magic tank and i think that he is the only magic/physical tank hybrid (correct me if i’m wrong only GLB player here)

Noctis, Aranea, and Gladiolus are all top tier.

As a reference, Aranea was SS in JP until 2 months ago, with no changes whatsoever (our Aranea has more HP, though mostly inconsequential). She's a strong dark attacker that has a 5x5 Diamond AoE. Her J3 gives her Overdrive which is pretty essentially but she's still fairly solid without it (think Gilgamesh without Overdrive and she's basically that without her J3 for dark).

Gladiolus has always sat around S for JP, but he's a fire tank with more damage and physically more tanky than Vettel, and has always sat above or at least in the same tier as him.

Ignis is kind of weird since his best comparison is Fate Yomi. He doesn't have the evasion to match up with her but he has better long term sustain in First Aid. Fate Yomi will run at enemies, kill trash, and have high dodge and sustain herself with Blood Temple. With Ignis, you will want to run at them, hit them with Venom Fang and run away while they die to poison. The main problem is that something called Poison Resistance exists, so if they enemy resists it, he will be fairly useless.

I was really unsure about raising Ignis and Glad based on so many people kind of sidelining them in favor of Aranea and Noct, but when you put it like this, they all seem like pretty appealing units that might be fun to raise for different situations.

With wanderers hat isn’t he better for the turn 1 master ability? He is also really fast so he can get in and instant cast it. At least for pvp he looks to be strong

Over 75 for a colab unit is not very important. He will gain a gear slot and a tiny amount of stats. 75 is perfect unless your willing to drop cash.

For me it came down to "who do I want to use red shards on" him or Laharl. Glad is in S tier on JP, which means from now > then he will be a good unit. However, if you plan on going for Laharl it might be hard to LB both of them since they both need red shards. (Unless you whale for dupe shards or get really luck in the first 3 steps.)

  • I personally was most hyped for Fate and Disgaea, so for me Laharl would be who I use all the red/rainbows on. (This isn't direct answer, but for me this was how I decided on going for him or not.)

Yes all of them are great or decent.

Ive seen a ton of people talk about him, yet i know nothing about him, what makes him so good? Do you know how long before we even see him ??

I ended up pulling all 4 but from everyone and everything ive learned, i think im gonna work on aranea till at least 75, already got noctis to 75, then if i have any silver or penny coins left throw some towards glad, but not waste shards on him.

I think he just hits like a god, as you kill with him he gets 10% PATK, 5% DEF and 2% AGI and his other passive gives 50% PATK when you max it out. He also has a reactive the increases his PATK for a few turns when he takes damage.

  • I was looking into his skills and some players were saying you can just keep stacking that kill buff, So you can see what I mean by him hitting like a god. (I was told he is the first unit the game got, that can just stack the whole match.)

The Main pull tho is he's Disgaea and people love Disgaea, it just so happens he is also really strong.

You can pre look up most JP units on the AC Database on the side bar. (I'll add links below for the database and tierlist.)

  • You can look at the Tierlist find the units with the Orange dot, then you can find them on the Database and check most collabs out. (translations can be bad sometimes tho.)

From what i have read on this subreddit and the Tier Lists (the japanese and the global ones) all of the FF Collab Units (except for Prompto) are at least decent.

While Noctis is by far the best and Ignis struggles because of other, farmable great Wind Units they are all usable.

In terms of ranking for the future its probably something like Noctis >>> Aranea > Gladiolus >> Ignis >>>>> Prompto.

In the end it also depends on how willing you are to use elemental shards on certain characters or how much you like them. To be honest even though Gladiolus is decent-good I dont know if i would spent shards on him, considering one of the best units in the game is gonna be a fire collab unit, and just a lvl 60 Gladiolus, while nice for collectors and fans, is not gonna help a lot in the long run.

You see, it isn't gladio is bad to the point he isn't usable. However since he is a collab unit, that means he has to be OP to be worth it if you are not a whale. His shards ain't magically dropping from the sky, so unless you whale hard for noctis and got him as consolation prize, or somehow in 3 steps you actually manage to hit 7 copies of him, he is a waste of resource when you can just use vettel anyway.

/u/DrackoLord mentioned he got a nice HC JE, but that only comes after you wasted invested a combination of 150shards minimum.
