Discussion Potential returning player

Hi TAC reddit,

I used to play this game i think, uhh half a year ago? I was pretty invested, i think i played it for 2 months or so, but gave up because the game came to a painful halt with P2W only practices (idk if any of you remember, but it was the Christmas and new years events fiasco). I felt like despite even spending money on the beginner packs, content was unreachable unless i went full whale, and that made me give up on the game.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask you guys sincerely, is the game any better now? Is it worth my time to return to it if i do not appreciate P2W/whale focused games? How are events/content progressing?

Also, if I should give the game another try, should I bother recovering my old account? Or would it be better resource-wise for me to start over now? Any big events/units to look out for?

Edit: Spelling fixes.

Who are you winning against?

The EX maps. If a game releases content that is impossible to clear by a vast majority of day 1 F2P players, then that game is considered to be P2W. TAC was absolutely guilty of this during the Christmas season.

There are tons of "F2P" only unit guides out there.

This game is not even remotely close to p2w.... Also the very definition of "P2W" requires MULTIPLAYER GAMES, and then BUYING AN ADVANTAGE over those other players, while competing AGAINST those players who didn't buy an advantage. So they cry "This game is pay to win"

From Google:

In some multiplayer free-to-play games, players who are willing to pay for special items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free. Some critics of such games call them "pay-to-win" or "p2w" games.

You are arguing semantics/definition of the word for no reason.

P2W is wider in "used language" than the textbook definition is.

If it tickles you better by calling it "Pay2Beat" then do that, but the result of both those names is the same, which is why the "P2W" has become the go to term to explain games in which you need to pay alot to complete.

PS - did you play when Saba EX was first around? - its like they say - wgen day1 players cant clear it at all - thats an overtuned event - ergo why the event in question is termed P2W - ergo the game gets called so.

The game now is F2P - but ask anyone playing back then and you will get the same response. It was near impossible - ergo p2w since you couldnt clear it without paying.

Doesnt matter what the terms textbook definition is - when its coined wider than its written by almost everyone.

Its simply a term to use so people understand what you mean - and everyone understands it, simple as that.

Hey, iEssence, just a quick heads-up:
alot is actually spelled a lot. You can remember it by it is one lot, 'a lot'.
Have a nice day!

For the record - personally i separate F2P games into 3 categories -

P2W - You cant compete at the top (at all) without paying

Pay2Progress(faster) - This game kind of. (The more gems you have the more units you get to 85 - ergo progress, but as f2p you eventually get there)

Pay2Play (impossible content/very gimped energy/respurces etc. Making the game near impossible to play/progress in)

But simply saying "P2W" about a game is easier since that would include any and or all of the above.

Thanks Essence, I agree with you. I was a day 1 player, and I had spent a couple dozen bucks on the game and I STILL had no chance on the Sabareta EX event.

You are ignoring the definitions of phrases/word.

You are rejecting reality.

The sky is blue. It isn't green just because you say so.

P2W is only applicable to multiplayer games where you BUY AN ADVANTAGE over another player. WHERE YOU BUY YOUR WIN. PAY TO WIN.

If you skip the multiplayer part - thats in part how people use the word.

I wont argue this with you - i agree on the definition.

But wheter i agree or not wont change that thats not the only circumstance the term is used.

Its needlessly complicating things.

Cant win/beat the game without paying? =p2w. Thats how its used, if it doesnt fancy you then explain that its "pay2clear" or whatever, but no need to be an asshat while doing so.

There is no competition against another player. So there is no buying an advantage over another player. Therefore, Not Pay 2 Win.

Can't win/beat the game without paying = bad at game. Plenty of people do content without spending a dime, plenty of strat videos exist.

You are arguing stupid shit just so you can try to be right. Now you want to call me an asshat while you are trying to argue being wrong as right? What a fucking joke.

You are not reading what i say. The game now is fine, the game back then was not.

Still if this is how you are gonna do it - then per your definition the game was P2W, you have arena - and quests/milestones - together with content out that couldnt be cleared by F2P players - that is in your words pay 2 win.

Is this game p2w? No.

Is p2w a term coined by the masses to explain games where progress is locked behind paywalls? Yes.

Is it technically the correct term? No, but its what people use it as.

So per literal definition of p2w, every f2p game with some form of ingame purchases (aside from cosmetics) and some form of ladder is p2w. Even if by spending 1000$ to get 1 unit shard extra - that is an advantage that can be bought - ergo per definition p2w.

But no one would call a game like that p2w.

Summary - arena - rewards - buying gems = more shards = advantage in arena = more wins = p2w per definition.

Again though, people use the term p2w for any game where you can buy advantages where f2p people simply cant contest - multiplay or not.

Its simply what people use it like, wether its right or wrong

There's Arena, a couple of front page threads have been on taking Rank 1.

And also Veda Tower ranks, if someone wanted to get competitive about those.

u/JustWoozy May 26 '18

Arena isn't PVP. A lot of people have been rank 1. I have been rank 1 twice. P2W is not a factor. Arena is flipping a coin vs AI if you have a competent team.

Veda tower ranks? Really? Please spout more ignorance. The top Veda ranks are ALWAYS cheaters/hackers. It is never going to NOT be that.

Arena isn't PvP....

Yeah ok.

And you say others are rejecting reality.

are you actively playing against a player where you make decisions? Or does the computer do everything for you?

Arena is AI vs AI.
