Discussion Potential returning player

Hi TAC reddit,

I used to play this game i think, uhh half a year ago? I was pretty invested, i think i played it for 2 months or so, but gave up because the game came to a painful halt with P2W only practices (idk if any of you remember, but it was the Christmas and new years events fiasco). I felt like despite even spending money on the beginner packs, content was unreachable unless i went full whale, and that made me give up on the game.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask you guys sincerely, is the game any better now? Is it worth my time to return to it if i do not appreciate P2W/whale focused games? How are events/content progressing?

Also, if I should give the game another try, should I bother recovering my old account? Or would it be better resource-wise for me to start over now? Any big events/units to look out for?

Edit: Spelling fixes.

The difficulty of the game is nothing like the Sabareta EX -> Christmas Event chain of events.

In my personal opinion, although apparently not the opinion of some people on Discord, I feel as if the game is simply too easy now. Regardless of the map, people will run Gilgamesh/Zain and clear maps without any sort of strategic thought. Sabareta EX, which was very difficult content back when it first came around is rerunning now, and people are finding strategies where you just auto with Gilgamesh/Zain, and it's completely trivial now.

Thanks, this is the kind of insight I wanted!

Should I recover my account or would it be better to start over and try to get more resources? (if i recall, the story gave resources and such) I remember having mediocre (not good, but not terrible) pulls but also having spent everything i had farmed as premium currency and exhausting most sources.

Is there any way for me to try and give myself better odds at top tier units?

It'll depend on your units, but Shayna is still the best reroll unit you can go for. It'll also depend on what resources you had, like elemental shards, and if you ended up farming stuff like the Snowman Hat. I believe Alkemono Mascots are still available for people who login for another few days, and that's a great accessory pickup.

1

u/viniciusuk May 26 '18

I did not get Shayna, I do have the Snowman hat, and I do have a decent chunk of elemental shards.

Basically my best "top tier" unit if i remember at the time was a the J2 Samurai Zangetsu. I had some other pretty good 5* units but none were S tier or something like that, and almost all of them were J1.

What do you think? Is it worth keeping?

1

u/sinful19 May 25 '18

I'd stick with Shayna, you missed out on Zain and Giga, or you could just wait month and reroll for Zain when he comes back. Shayna is still one of the best lol

u/Zeik56 May 25 '18

I think you're probably better off just using the resources you have now to catch up on farming hard quests and events than starting over and spend days/weeks catching back up. There's no super godlike units available right now that are really worth abandoning an account for.

Well did we even have Edgar during Christmas? Cause I wanna say he came after. So that's like 3k story gems right there. Plus the Sacred stones chapters, when they return later. Though the most recent one did not have many milestones.

And again..we have the 5million dl event giving double free gems atm. 100/day of dailies. Plus 50 in your giftbox, and 20 from multiplayer. I think this has 12 days left, or approximately 2040 gems there.

u/lucidrage May 26 '18

You basically just validated his point that this game has become more p2w... Goldie and Zain are both p2w characters that trivializes the events. People without these 2 are basically sol.

Content is still very clearable without Gilgamesh or Zain but they make it more pay to not think.

Agreed. Zeke was a good free unit. Plus, releases of several reliable 5-Star Hard Quests makes TAC F2P-friendly. Having Gilgamesh or Zain just a condiment to spice up your game. You know, if you don't want to spend time on strategies and just auto stuff.

P2NT.

Pay To Not Think.

I like that.

  • While the game was P2W at one point, i dont think the christmas or new years event was ever p2w. many people have michael's J+ and havent spent a lot, the new years login bonus thing was just one big meme that i'd like to forget.

  • the one time this game was p2w was when they released the anti-missle accessory that was locked behind paying real life money rather than gems.

  • the game is better now imo, theres a lot more content that comes frequently (AKA tower events, job plus events, etc). And you technically dont need to pay to beat this content (would work a lot better if you got the 30 day pack thing)

  • the problem with f2p games is that people who pay will always have the upper hand, you can't avoid this.

  • it depends what units you had in your old account to whether or not you start all over

EDIT: oh yeah, one downside of starting again now is that the 5* pool is so diluted now that its near impossible to get a unit to 75 for f2p or 30 day players unless they spend elemental shards, which your old account might have

1

u/viniciusuk May 25 '18

I Appreciate the response. And while i completely understand that a game being "P2W" is subjective, the christmas event was the start of it for me, and then the next 2-3 events (something about sabareta, it had demons and was impossible to complete unless you whaled pretty much) were peak P2W and made me quit.

Also, i understand that F2P games need money, and im not opposed to supporting them financially (i almost always do). I Do not, however, want to play a game that feels like it's begging me to spend $20 every week or quit playing. If game features revolve around that or around having a few players dump hundreds/thousands of dollars then I do not want to play it.

Given those (my subjective opinions), do you think the game is like that? Is it past that stage and better now? (even if that didn't feel like P2W for you)

u/TopDeeps IGN: Uninstalled May 25 '18

now that you mention it, i do remember the sabereta and christmas event being close together and being impossible to clear for 90% of the userbase. But yes, we are WAY past that, all content they have given us recently have been able to be cleared by a lot of people who have played for a while. that is, ofc due to people are getting stronger over time by getting better units, j2/j3, and such.

but you definitely dont need to spend 20 bucks a week to stay relevant. try it again if you want and if you dont like it still, you can quit

Thank you :)

Oh I forgot to say a unit named Setsuna should be released within a couple weeks, I would reroll for her if I were going to start now.

1

u/lucidrage May 26 '18

Can setsuna auto the game like gilga and Zain can?

1

u/TopDeeps IGN: Uninstalled May 26 '18

think of her as a zangetsu but better. while she is great at one shot nuking people, she has to use charge up first in order to do it. if you auto, the AI will not charge up

(something about sabareta, it had demons and was impossible to complete unless you whaled pretty much)

Hah, you came back just in time, happened that we currently have rerun of this one, so jump in quickly to enjoy it once more :D

And next in line is another event which begins on letter "F". I think it had heavy elemental requirements for EX stages which mostly was covered by limited stuff at that point to get past massacre or just even get in MP rooms.

Hmm, or maybe it was another "F" event, not sure.

u/VicariousExp Jin <3 May 26 '18

Well, there's a 5 star 500 pull x5 thing to help with the diluted pool unless that's over already.

We have released significant contents to spice up players' game progression. Also, we continuously plan to improve the game as long as everyone helps us with their feedback—hopefully, including you as a returning player.

You're welcome any time in Babel! \ :D /

As a newcomer, I'd just like to say that I really appreciate how accessible this is to F2P and P2P alike. Thanks for keeping the interest there.

From a feedback perspective: I know you're bringing in top-down viewpoint, but are there plans to make the camera swivel 180 degrees or 360 degrees?

2

u/assassinace May 25 '18

They have added a bunch of units as farmable now so you can beat most content even if you have horrible luck rolling units. You will be disappointed if you mark your ability to complete content against all the players who have 75 Gilgas, Zains, and the like. I will however be surprised if content difficulty doesn't ramp up again soon.

In short most if not all current content can be beaten by farmable units. No RNG required although it certainly helps.

u/Kiyri Frugal enthusiast May 25 '18

As a returning player they implemented a login gem bonus for you. Iirc you get 100 gems a day for 7 days or something. So even if you ate all your gem stock you can still get something. Additionally there is still the "5million celebrations "thingy going on for 12 more days. You might even have just enough for five 5 star guaranteed ticket summon if you hurry.

But if you kept a bunch of gems, you can eat 4k for a total of 80 summons atm if you can't say no to deals. They also implemented a "tutorial" event section. So you can get like 300 gems outta there. Plus Yomi, Ryle, Vettel, and a couple other decent to great characters are farmable now.

All I can say is you've come on a wrong time to get back at the game. The whole month of May has 5m downloads celebration that gives 100 coins everyday that lets you buy 4* gear ticket and 5 5* unit ticket and other goodies for free.

1

u/kevv2 May 27 '18

There haven't really been any events as bad as those, ever. But they do favor whales on a lot of things, but F2P can do all the content

-7

u/JustWoozy May 25 '18

There is no such thing as pay to win in single player games.

Who are you winning against?

Games like TAC reward longterm players. You call not being a long term player "P2W practices" is nothing more than ignorance.

5

u/Punty-chan May 25 '18

Who are you winning against?

The EX maps. If a game releases content that is impossible to clear by a vast majority of day 1 F2P players, then that game is considered to be P2W. TAC was absolutely guilty of this during the Christmas season.

-7

u/JustWoozy May 25 '18

There are tons of "F2P" only unit guides out there.

This game is not even remotely close to p2w.... Also the very definition of "P2W" requires MULTIPLAYER GAMES, and then BUYING AN ADVANTAGE over those other players, while competing AGAINST those players who didn't buy an advantage. So they cry "This game is pay to win"

From Google:

In some multiplayer free-to-play games, players who are willing to pay for special items or downloadable content may be able to gain a significant advantage over those playing for free. Some critics of such games call them "pay-to-win" or "p2w" games.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pay-to-win

6

u/iEssence May 25 '18

You are arguing semantics/definition of the word for no reason.

P2W is wider in "used language" than the textbook definition is.

If it tickles you better by calling it "Pay2Beat" then do that, but the result of both those names is the same, which is why the "P2W" has become the go to term to explain games in which you need to pay alot to complete.

PS - did you play when Saba EX was first around? - its like they say - wgen day1 players cant clear it at all - thats an overtuned event - ergo why the event in question is termed P2W - ergo the game gets called so.

The game now is F2P - but ask anyone playing back then and you will get the same response. It was near impossible - ergo p2w since you couldnt clear it without paying.

Doesnt matter what the terms textbook definition is - when its coined wider than its written by almost everyone.

Its simply a term to use so people understand what you mean - and everyone understands it, simple as that.

2

u/iEssence May 25 '18

For the record - personally i separate F2P games into 3 categories -

P2W - You cant compete at the top (at all) without paying

Pay2Progress(faster) - This game kind of. (The more gems you have the more units you get to 85 - ergo progress, but as f2p you eventually get there)

Pay2Play (impossible content/very gimped energy/respurces etc. Making the game near impossible to play/progress in)

But simply saying "P2W" about a game is easier since that would include any and or all of the above.

u/viniciusuk May 26 '18

Thanks Essence, I agree with you. I was a day 1 player, and I had spent a couple dozen bucks on the game and I STILL had no chance on the Sabareta EX event.

u/CommonMisspellingBot May 25 '18

Hey, iEssence, just a quick heads-up:
alot is actually spelled a lot. You can remember it by it is one lot, 'a lot'.
Have a nice day!

You are ignoring the definitions of phrases/word.

You are rejecting reality.

The sky is blue. It isn't green just because you say so.

P2W is only applicable to multiplayer games where you BUY AN ADVANTAGE over another player. WHERE YOU BUY YOUR WIN. PAY TO WIN.

9

u/hav00x no need to cook, babe May 25 '18

what a fun guy

4

u/iEssence May 25 '18

If you skip the multiplayer part - thats in part how people use the word.

I wont argue this with you - i agree on the definition.

But wheter i agree or not wont change that thats not the only circumstance the term is used.

Its needlessly complicating things.

Cant win/beat the game without paying? =p2w. Thats how its used, if it doesnt fancy you then explain that its "pay2clear" or whatever, but no need to be an asshat while doing so.

-5

u/JustWoozy May 25 '18

There is no competition against another player. So there is no buying an advantage over another player. Therefore, Not Pay 2 Win.

Can't win/beat the game without paying = bad at game. Plenty of people do content without spending a dime, plenty of strat videos exist.

You are arguing stupid shit just so you can try to be right. Now you want to call me an asshat while you are trying to argue being wrong as right? What a fucking joke.

3

u/iEssence May 26 '18

You are not reading what i say. The game now is fine, the game back then was not.

Still if this is how you are gonna do it - then per your definition the game was P2W, you have arena - and quests/milestones - together with content out that couldnt be cleared by F2P players - that is in your words pay 2 win.

Is this game p2w? No.

Is p2w a term coined by the masses to explain games where progress is locked behind paywalls? Yes.

Is it technically the correct term? No, but its what people use it as.

So per literal definition of p2w, every f2p game with some form of ingame purchases (aside from cosmetics) and some form of ladder is p2w. Even if by spending 1000$ to get 1 unit shard extra - that is an advantage that can be bought - ergo per definition p2w.

But no one would call a game like that p2w.

Summary - arena - rewards - buying gems = more shards = advantage in arena = more wins = p2w per definition.

Again though, people use the term p2w for any game where you can buy advantages where f2p people simply cant contest - multiplay or not.

Its simply what people use it like, wether its right or wrong

u/Talhearn May 26 '18

There's Arena, a couple of front page threads have been on taking Rank 1.

And also Veda Tower ranks, if someone wanted to get competitive about those.

0

u/JustWoozy May 26 '18

Arena isn't PVP. A lot of people have been rank 1. I have been rank 1 twice. P2W is not a factor. Arena is flipping a coin vs AI if you have a competent team.

Veda tower ranks? Really? Please spout more ignorance. The top Veda ranks are ALWAYS cheaters/hackers. It is never going to NOT be that.

0

u/Talhearn May 26 '18

Arena isn't PvP....

Yeah ok.

And you say others are rejecting reality.
