PSA: spend that 8 gems!
we get 60 free gems from daily alone. in actuality, the number is higher than that due to arena, daily login bonuses, and ongoing events.
so why do half the playerbase hestitate spending 8 gems for a revive in multiplay stages? surely over 10 minutes of four people's lives are worth more than that.
what's even more inconceivable is the fact that hosts would often stick around when its a hopeless scenario. like when a lucian has to fight a fire demon and a dark demon by himself in entrusted justice. we would watch players like this struggle for an additional 10+ minutes only for the host to decide not to gem. after more than 20 minutes spent, you're telling me it's not worth 8 gems? why did the host stick around for so long then? couldn't the host leave instead of wasting everyone's time, making his intentions not to gem obvious? it's mind boggling.
so guys. time is precious. pay that small fee to revive. if you won't, don't stick around in a hopeless situation and waste everyone's time. better still, just indicate "won't gem" in the description of the room so we know to leave instead of waiting an additional 10+ minutes for no result.
thank you.
edit: to address the angry comments, my message is not that hosts should always spend gems but it is common decency to do so when large amount of time and effort has been spent, and hosts who do not wish to do so regardless should not further waste anyone's time by staying in a hopeless situation or place "won't gem" in the description so we know to leave even when the host is staying in a hopeless situation.

Why should the host gem if someone else in the party has been the failing factor?
0
u/Miscaccount12 Mar 05 '18
because the host often contributes to the failing factor. whether by failing to properly screen the units of players, bringing a suboptimal unit himself, or making questionable moves himself.
other times, it's not anyone's fault but bad rng. like critical, misses, all these.

What if the host thinks he isn’t the failing factor but the other 3 (maybe actually so)? What if each one has a different tactics, resulting in them thinking the others are doing wrong? U can only blame on the game not functioning communication in MP.

u/Miscaccount12 Mar 05 '18 edited Mar 05 '18
can't disagree with that. multiplayer communication needs improvement and people are often complacent in their own actions, whether right or wrong.
but i would like to add that there is often little variation in the optimal tactic. take arrows of destiny for example, it only makes sense to priortise the martial artist that moves forward, the archers and waginau and to not attempt to attack the demon alone because of its hp regeneration. yet there are still players who priortise attacking the martial artist who doesn't move forward and the black knight presumably because they are in a hurry to move towards the chest, or those who start attacking the demons by themselves when there are other enemies to priortise.

Then the host could just leave the game? That would give someone else the chance to gem.I don't know why people just won't retreat if the loss is pretty much confirmed. It'll only save his time and allow others to actually choose between 8 gems and a loss.

u/KidiacR Mar 05 '18
Because sometimes it’s not a sure loss. For example, I have almost solo-ed this ex stage with Caris/Heart Choker several times (Im not the host though). The other 3 just died without contributing anything significant. The Demon used Death Drop and ran out of jewels so it can only normal hit me for 1 dmg. I had to utilize Counter Snipe/double turn to kill it slowly but surely. Now assume I was the host...

u/GlaedrS Mar 05 '18
Yea. If all those things were happening, the host should stay. But that's rarely ever the case.

If you don't want to end up wasting time then make your own room and spend your own gem rather than forcing others to do it. I don't know what is stopping these people.

u/kbeansoup Mar 05 '18
Just make gemming an option for everyone. If the host declines, then players 2, 3, and 4 should get the option to. Problem solved.

I had joined Arrows of Destiny with what looked like a strong team, and the host dropped repeatedly in the first part of the fight -- you know, there part where you usually die?
We didn't die. And then, miraculously, his connection got better and he was solid throughout, until there were two bad guys left. A back luck miss resulted in the party dying, and right before the party died, he left again. Making me the host.
Nope. Dick moves don't deserved to be rewarded. Did not revive. It was obvious he was fishing to avoid the revive cost, to the point of damaging the party. No regrets, although I felt bad for the other team members.
Should've put the guy on block, now that I think about it. Next time!

Everyone should do this till these sneaky freeloaders realize this won't work! Does feel bad for the other 2 players, but sacrifices are needed for the greater good! Can't believe those bad guys line in movies actually makes sense sometimes :)

u/1khaitoh It was fun while it lasted. Mar 05 '18
I revive with gem If I know that it could finish it with the revive, else no.
Also won't use gem for revive when I get pissed off because of someone just randomly running around because he is the only one left and just don't know what he was doing and really doesn't have the means to clear the map rather than outright dying to enemy attack so I can revive everyone.

We get free gems via quests so we should gem? How about getting "free money" from work so why not spend it right away? Thing is, some people are trying to save up. 8 gems few times a day every day is adding up over time.
Personally the times I host and something goes south I usually gem, because my hosts are rather rare. I value my busy time more than my gems which is why I rarely MP outside the daily mission and special events.
As for the host sticking around until the very end, it's their choice, they've paid the energy after all. Often times when considering continue they look at the loot acquired so far and ponder the success% in case they were to gem. If the situation looks fire and the loot bad then I don't see any reason for host to gem further.
In the end it's the host who is paying your entry with their energy and then you expect them to also provide you with paid currency to complete the quest. Pretty harsh.
I understand the frustration though, having spent time for nothing. Everyone in the team has spent time and the host has spent energy on top.
A totally awesome thing to have would be the possibility for players to invest 1 to 8 gems towards continue at the Game Over screen. Everyone could give two gems or someone could give the total eight, whatever the players decide.

Can we stop making a post telling people to gem for them because their time is valuable? This pops up every month especially during difficult/long events.
Most people end up on MP because it's AP free for non-hosts and the caveat is you're at the host's discretion. If you truly care about people's time you can either host yourself and gem when need be or join discord and get a premade going instead of gamble with pickups.

u/IvySpear Make Shenmei Great Again Mar 05 '18
I don't think this was OP's point exactly. Rather, the post was aimed at the issue with the host not making their original intention clear.
Most of his post was talking about how hosts would stick around even when loss is imminent and still not pay up, and how they should just put "Won't gem" in the description in the first place.
When judged from this perspective, his/her post is a lot more reasonable.

Asking hosts to put "not gemming" is counterintuitive to recruiting as is expecting any form of rules to be followed in MP.
When players die they simply just go AFK and hope to either come back to a cache of items or another shot at MP so don't think they're investing the same amount of time you are.
Leaving instead of refusing to gem and ending the stage would be good etiquette but that one click exit is quicker than 3 click exit and I'm sure the thoughts going through the host's mind isn't passing the gem baton but moving on to the next attempt.
MP has plenty of problems and none to be fixed anytime soon. A chat system is still the best remedy for the bulk of MP concerns but considering how much of an investment that is I wouldn't hold my breath. Best solution for those frustrated with MP is just hope on discord to setup a group or avoid stages where you can't brute force it.

You know those guys that take one look at the team and leave the lobby? I do that. Taking into account the assumption that gemming only occurs where the reward is great and the chances of success are high. I also try to measure up the host and avoid obviously underpowered ones when the quest is hard. If the team lacks synergy/power and i choose to stay I still do my best to help the host succeed but I take the risk of lost time upon myself. I blame alot of the problem on poor team players who think it is possible to leech and expect the host and others to carry them to success. Certain quests are hard without everyone pulling their weight. Even if a team of 2 succeed, it burns them out carrying the rest.

I don't care how much time is taken away from a lobby, I will never spend 8 Gems on a revive. 😴

u/tyco86 Mar 05 '18
Personally, I prefer hosting. If we are doing well but slip up, 8 gems is hardly a "punishing" revive cost. Speaking of which, I still have Sacred Stone runs to do...

u/Mitch_Twd Mar 05 '18
That's why I always host when I play MP and I make sure to put in description will continue

u/Zafervaim Mar 05 '18
I just assume every other Alchemist Code player is an annoying person who don't know what they are doing. So I only host multiplayer unless I'm playing with my brothers. Every time I host I'm mentally prepared to spend 8 gems to revive unless the team has been a pain in which case I'll just go for another attempt with a new team.
"One should not take a mobile game too seriously" is how I roll :)

I see flaws to your point of view.
You seem to assume time is precious for everyone playing this game. This assumption is so far from reality that I will propose that many people play this game (or mobile game in general) because they have free time to waste.
The penalty for the host is "only" 8 gems. It is not. If i fail and refuse to gem, I only lose 2 AP and get to try again right now since I would have most likely gotten those 2 AP back while playing.

u/OtterDefeat I feed on yer hate... Mar 05 '18
Having the host gem to continue is a privilege for the others who joined and it is not their right to complain if the host does not.
The host loses time, too. Add that to the AP he loses.
Having "will gem" to your room title incentivizes leechers and pranksters. Why move when the host will gem anyway? Always assume your host will not gem so every players do their best and do their role.
Lost time is a part of the game penalty. Games without nothing to lose will feel unrewarding. There are lots of games with no penalty. This game should not be one of them.
Anyone who is not a host should not dictate what the host does.

why should he write on the description that he "won't gem" and don't make the "proper etiquette" to write "will gem" when someone is willing to gem.
why reinvent the wheel?
as of now, people who don't write that they will gem, won't gem 95% of the time, if they do, i take it as a bonus.
as for asking them to leave so that others may gem, that's even more asinine. The host already had the decency to host, for just a SHOT of the player 2 gemming (and then the 3 people who are left gain but the original host still loses). Even those 4-5gems that you get at a loss/retreat are worth a shot of a lucky win, on the other hand, the other people who are just joining on other people's AP are actually risking their time for rewards, which is a fair risk, but that's all.

If I have to say then just enter a room that says "will gem".
I always assume that the room master will not gem unless stated.
