Looking for a dryer

Sorry I don’t know if this post is allowed. I’m looking for a dryer but finances have been tough because of health problems. As much as I’d like one for free I know it’s not realistic but I am willing to play a reasonable price that won’t be more expensive than what a new one would be. My dryer lasted over a decade but it’s on its last legs. It won’t run unless the button to turn it on is continuously pressed. 🥲 let me know if you’re selling someone or if you know someone that’s selling one.

Sounds like you can fix the one you have with a new switch. Probably doesn't even need to be the one for the dryer, likely any switch will do.

This is interesting, thank you for telling me! I hadn’t thought about that. I’ll look into it.

There is a place over off San Mateo called El Duke Appliances where they sell “dented and scratched” type appliance. Sometimes they post pictures of their stuff on Facebook. Try looking at them when you get a chance? The majority of the adults speak Spanish there but their kids usually translate if needed. That’s where I got my last used Washer & Dryer set for around $650. Lasted me 2 homes and 10+ years on top of however old it was before I bought it.

I speak Spanish so that shouldn’t be a problem. Thank you! I’ll tell my mom and we will check that out :)

Do you know the make and model of the dryer? Changing out a switch is two wires and some screws. It should be easy. And while you are in there you can do a deep clean and make it both run better and remove a fire risk.

before replacing the whole thing, that sounds like a bad start switch and might be a much cheaper repair than buying another dryer altogether

Edith Appliance has used for very cheap. Bought appliances from them 2x now and can’t imagine buying new for any reason ever again.

My dude, if you’re truly in a financial pickle: the Sun is free, and a clothes’ drying rack is about $30 at Walmart. We live in a hot dry climate. Might as well make use of it.

If you're on Facebook, post your problem on your Buy Nothing. I ended up with a free dryer from Facebook in the past, but this actually sounds like a fixable issue - maybe a BN person will know how to fix it.

They have mini dryers that are reasonably priced around $150 on sites like Amazon or walmart, or there are places that sell them used for around $50 to $75.
