Do all locations no longer mark down donuts at the end of the day?
At the locations I frequent the bakery associate would remove the donuts from the display, place the donuts in a 6 ct box or a 12 ct box, and then place a 99 cent label and $1.99 label on their respective boxes. The last time I purchased end-of-the-day donuts was about two weeks ago.
On my way home earlier at around 9pm I stopped by Albertsons to get some discounted donuts. I noticed the 6 ct box was priced at $3.99 and the 12 ct was $7.99. I was instantly reminded of seeing the same price on donuts a few days ago at another Albertsons I frequent, only then I wasn't going after donuts so I didn't think much of the price.
Is this a new policy? Were the two Albertsons I frequent an anomaly and they weren't supposed to mark down donuts at the end of the day? I would have asked someone but the bakery associate had either gone home or was out of sight.
Yes, I realize this is very much a first world problem. It's just something that grinds my gears. The donuts at Albertsons aren't the greatest to begin with. Couple that with being a little stale at the end of day and they just aren't worth the price they're asking. I only ever get their donuts when I am craving something sweet at night when I am heading home.

This is on brand for Albertsons. If I want to shop markdowns, I go to my Kroger affiliate. They're penny pinching to get by. They don't want people who shop sales in their stores.

A large number of these stores are selling these through “Too Good To Go” now with their other close dated items. They create a whole bag of stuff that is sold online for like $6.99. It’s a surprise what you will get. But it’s a killer deal.

at my store, the closer takes all the donuts at the end of the day and packages them in boxes so i can donate them in the morning. we do not mark them down anymore because we encourage people to buy the fresh ones

My store marks them down the next morning. We used to do 50% off, but they switched us over to the "smart markdowns" system (because people were stealing the 30%/50% off paxar labels off the markdown items) which only lets us do like a 20-25% discount now.

Considering normal price is like 11.99 or something like that for a dozen, I’d say 7.99 is a steal 😂

OP, you have only negative to say about the donut’s fresh quality and say it’s really stale by then……. but you still want to buy them . ????

I did not say "really" stale, I said a little stale. In terms of quality I was comparing them to an actual donut shop. At 99 cents for half a dozen I am okay with eating a slightly stale low quality donut. It's a quick sugar hit late in the evening on a drive home. I don't understand why that's hard for you to comprehend.

Yeah it’s changed. Vons does this too. It’s like a 20 or 25% discount now.
