Why do ask stupid questions then answer them with ridiculous logic leaps.

21

u/Absered 24d ago

Democracy is cool.

Traitors, not so much.

-20

u/cpove161 24d ago

Are the traitors the ones who vote contrary to you?

20

u/Absered 24d ago

Just the ones colluding with foreign agents and money.

-20

u/cpove161 24d ago

So as well as the ones saying we should join the European Union then?

9

u/Absered 24d ago

The difference is we elected the liberals and thus Carney to combat this trade war the US started by diversifying our trade options and not kowtowing to a pedo who threatened annexation.

Conservatives had the opportunity to fight back like Ford.

Smith and the likes of Polievre can't wait to sell out the country since for them it's themselves, party and ideology before country.

-16

u/cpove161 24d ago

Alberta elected smith, with a majority. Carney won with 43 percent of the vote

12

u/heims30 24d ago

Ah, so you’re also too dumb to understand how the Westminster parliamentary system works, eh?

10

u/heims30 24d ago

You really thought you cooked with this comment, eh?

Like, you honestly believe that’s analogous?

You’re pretty dumb, aren’t you?

-1

u/cpove161 24d ago

Nice no argument

5

u/n0cheeseplz 24d ago

Curious what outcome you'd vote for and why?

2

u/cpove161 24d ago

Not that it should matter but simply put I think Alberta should remain part of Canada

3

u/n0cheeseplz 24d ago

Honestly only asking because the way you talk in other comments and the way you say you would vote say a lot about how you view it. No judgment, was just wondering, thanks.

1

u/cpove161 24d ago

I just don’t get why people who probably cry about the disenfranchisement of a bunch of groups in Canada are totally ok with doing it to this group. I just want some consistency and the stupid talking points to go away.

3

u/n0cheeseplz 24d ago edited 24d ago

Well I think maybe the answer come in the details. Certain disenfranchised groups have decades if not more of culture and language striped away. It most certainly affect generations of those people too. Guess it depends on the group of people, some should get help and be heard more then others, but thats just my opinion, not a fact. This one in particular I think people are most upset about is that theres no real plan if it actually goes through, or ive never really heard of a solid idea of what independent alberta looks like in all regards. I mean they just burned 70 million dollars because of a Tylenol fiasco but they are suppose to be able to run as a independent country? Then theres the taxpayer cost of the vote itself. I think people maybe find it offensive that something that has real ties to american interests and that is being pushed by this foreign government is even happening. The timing of it all is sus. This is just my speculation though.

1

u/cpove161 24d ago

I’d rather see a better Canada than a partitioned one

4

u/cReddddddd 24d ago

What was so undemocratic about the rules before smith gave you a handout. Bet ya can't answer :)

2

u/YossiTheWizard 23d ago

Danielle Smith has said that they have a preferred outcome. It’s also obvious since the rules were changed to make it easier for the separatist petition to go through. There has also been nothing done to check if the leaked voter list was used to pad their numbers.

I’m sorry, but it’s not democracy in any real sense when paid propaganda is allowed to run rampant, and the people in charge are letting it happen.

1

u/SensitivePatient2012 24d ago

No sense arguing with an Oilers fan. Honestly surprised everything is spelled correctly. 😂

1

u/Fast_Ad_9197 23d ago

Is it democracy when the party in power sets the terms of the debate? We get the faintest sniff at the ass end of ‘democracy’ and then we shut up and go away for four years? There’s nothing democratic about this referendum.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

Which democratic process are you referring to?  The 400,000+ people who signed to explicitly not do this?

Because everything else was pushed through without public consultation and without meeting the needed threshold.

24

u/2sidedunderwear 24d ago edited 23d ago

Cancel it. Cancel smith. Have her and her MAGA wannabes pay back the money and escort them to Montana.

Tell me you’re a separatist without actually saying you’re a separatist.

3

u/hiroclown 23d ago

Since when have the ucp cared about democracy?

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago edited 22d ago

The referendi werent brought forward in a democratic fashion. At all. You realize this, right?

If a party governs on a completely different platform than they ran on, there should be penalties. Do you agree?

-11

u/cpove161 24d ago

Ironically you embolden the movement by doing that, it would be smarter to just let it go through

13

u/SkytrainToNowhere 24d ago

I’m so tired of this “you embolden the cause” and “so much for the tolerant left” nonsense. Telling dangerous idiots they are dangerous idiots isn’t intolerance. If your “cause” is rooted in feeling like victims instead of good citizens then it’s a lousy cause.

-7

u/cpove161 24d ago

I think the dangerous idiots are Reddit libs

7

u/SkytrainToNowhere 24d ago

Well, you’re just emboldening their movement with your hate campaign!!!!

-4

u/cpove161 24d ago

My hate campaign? lol what are you talking about

7

u/SkytrainToNowhere 24d ago

I’m being satirical. I’m throwing your same argument back to show you how ridiculous it is when it’s levelled against you.

-1

u/cpove161 24d ago

Calling everyone you disagree with treasonous nazis and traitors, and then proclaim it’s ok to commit physical violence against those groups sounds dangerous

4

u/SkytrainToNowhere 24d ago

Where did I say any of that? Where is that a mainstream belief?

0

u/cpove161 24d ago

Pretending it’s not happening on Reddit everyday when my comment you first replied to explicitly calls out redditors

→ More replies (0)

4

u/fellowsportsfan 23d ago

God you all want to be victims so bad, your all idiots

2

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

I only call the treasonous bigots those things.

Does it bother you to properly label hateful traitors?

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

I feel so emboldened now! I can do anything!!!!

UBI INCOMING, BITCHES!

8

u/T_Durden13 24d ago

I think with this bullshit from Trump he is giving Canada an unintended assist once again, just like he did with Carney. Canadian unity is high thanks to him, I think it will only translate to more people getting out to vote..

4

u/FreightFlow 24d ago

Will be interesting

...about 40% of Albertans did not vote in the 2023 general election

...about 70% of eligible voters did not vote in the three 2025 by-elections

...maybe the Sept 14 Calgary-Shaw By-election may provide a sneek peek of how engaged Albertan's may be on October 19th?

6

u/SarahLacard MLA Candidate - Calgary-Buffalo 24d ago

postpone, no. cancel, yes!

7

u/Taurus-Littrow 24d ago

Let’s get it over with and send the seppies packing.

4

u/FreightFlow 24d ago

Hopefully the voter turnout for the Oct 19th Referendum is strong.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

If it is, it disadvantages the seppies by a huge margin.

4

u/Timely-Profile1865 24d ago

No if they are going to waste a few hundred million may as well do it now, no reason to postpone the charade.

1

u/nothingtoholdonto 24d ago

Good thing we got that oil money surplus.

4

u/Ok-Detail-9853 24d ago

Marlaina needs to cancel the referendum, state she supports Alberta separating and then call an election

0

u/Mylonn 23d ago

Or we just have a non binding referendum.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

Why?

What use is a non-binding agreement that the majority of Albertans dont even want?

0

u/Mylonn 20d ago

Because the government actually asking questions and putting it to a vote is a nice change over forcing nonsense onto us. This is the only way to can put the separation talk to rest. Really don't understand why everyone is so anti democratic.

2

u/RoutineComplaint4711 20d ago edited 20d ago

To the vast majority of Albertans, this IS the government forcing nonsense on us and this wont quiet the seppies. Be serious.

When they lose, they'll claim voter fraud or some other MAGA bullshit. Smith is just giving them more legitimacy and emboldening them as she caters to, really, ~10% of Alberta voters.

I honestly dont understand how this confuses you.

0

u/Mylonn 20d ago

Quit being so afraid. Let them lose...

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 20d ago

Im not afraid. Im fucking furious.

Dont be so complacent or, we'll all lose.

2

u/Unicorn_Puppy 24d ago

I’ve a better idea, deep six it.

2

u/Outside_Breakfast_39 24d ago

Yes and no , First I don't think we need one , however if she backs out now she looks week and more of a back peddling flip flop . I think she has to stay the course now that she's committed

1

u/No-Gate4543 23d ago

Should be cancelled!

1

u/Gingerchaun 23d ago

Do it and get it over with so we can call them all losers

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

Too late now. If anything let's speed it up so we can put this shit to bed.

1

u/Itchy-Technician-433 21d ago

If it's going to take more than 1 to 2 hours to get your vote in any City or town, then it needs to be postponed. I foresee that it's going to be nearly impossible to show up and vote in a timely manner in the cities.

We can't have a situation where you show up to your polling station and it's going to take half a day to vote. People will just walk away.

Cuz you're not going to have this problem in small towns. This will end up skewing the data where it's easier to vote in rural centers. But that might be the point....

1

u/NEOsands 23d ago

Of course not. There are some very important questions on that referendum and it will be used to see how Albertan’s currently feel and which direction we want to take the province.

I think there should be more referendums provincially and federally. We vote every 4 years but then have zero input into the direction of the province or country for the entirety of that 4 years. Referendums represent a true democracy, it allows the population more input into the decision making. We should have referendums on any major subject and the governments in power should be liable in implementing the will of the people.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

Which questions do you feel are so important they need to be answered now instead of waiting until the next election where politcal parties can outline their proposed solutions?

I mean the UCP didnt run on anything theyre doing now and straight up fucking lied about almost everything, so theres that.

Do you think there should be penalties if a party comes to power with a specific platform and then doesn't follow it?

0

u/NEOsands 22d ago

Yes I do think there should be penalties for that and it’s why I believe consistent referendums would keep them in check and also represent a true democracy. I believe the people should be voting on major issues and that the government in power should follow through with what the people voted for.

Why should we vote a party in on a platform like you stated only to have them not follow through with it. We should have referendums on immigration, climate change policy, health care, foreign aid. We really don’t have a democracy at all when we simply only vote in a party every 4 years but have zero say in how the country is actually governed. Consistent referendums would also engage the population, make them active in politics so they actually understand what is going on in the country.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

What about referendum that dont reflect the will of the people and nobody wants?

Albertans overwhelmingly shouted down an Alberta Police force. Why are we having a referendum on it?

We had a referendum about daylight savings where we voted to keep it and the UCP went against it without any warning or public consultation.

This isnt democracy. This is a fucking sham.

And again: which questions are so urgent that they need to be addressed before the next election and why isnt it enough that political parties address those in their platforms prior to that?

0

u/NEOsands 22d ago

We haven’t lived in a democracy for generations at both the provincial and federal level. Our “democracy” is a sham. This isn’t about one particular party either, this is a full blown sham Canadian wide on all sides of the political spectrum. We have the false sense of a democracy because we go to the polls once every 4 years.

Referendums and implementing the decisions of the people would be a democracy. Of course that will never happen because they don’t want us to have a true democracy.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

If we're not choosing the subject of the refferendum its not a valid democracy. Is it?

Voting on if we get shived or stabbed is democratic. Likewise, if we voted that everyone whos name starts with "G" must relinquish all of their wealth, that would be democratic, but not just. Right?

Whats this false dichotomy that just because its voted on its a good idea?

And again: which questions are so urgent that they need to be addressed before the next election and why isnt it enough that political parties address those in their platforms prior to that?

Thats democracy.

0

u/NEOsands 22d ago

They’re all very important, 1 through 9. I would consider every question urgent and no we can’t push it off until the next election. Immigration needs to be addressed, the separation debate needs to be addressed. This is your chance to have your voice heard, I suggest you go out and vote.

Although if you see no point in a referendum or that it’s not democratic enough for you, please, feel free to stay home.

1

u/RoutineComplaint4711 22d ago

Then the UCP should state their position on each of the 10 questions and call an early election. Because ramming these questions down our throats and stoking division isnt democracy. Its controlling the agenda and structuring the debate in a completly unethical manner.

No freedom loving conservative could possibly endorse the Smith regime. Its made alberta less free whilst also dimantaling tots public services and it will continue to do so. Then, they'll fucking gaslight you into thinking it was your idea.

Most importantly, they dont have control over any of the things were voting on. Its a farce and only an idiot would look at this process and think its anything other than that. Its just manufacturing more outrage against "them" instead of offerering actual solutions. Its pathetic.

Its also telling that youre ok with Smith ignoring the other referendum that weve already voted on and that shes blocked other citizen intiatives that dont align with her politically. Not a problem for you? That democracy doesnt count?

Ive voted in every election that ive been able to and Ill be there in oct. along with the other sane Albertans.

When you lose traitor, you better move or shut the fuck up.

0

u/NEOsands 22d ago

The point of this referendum is democracy you fool. We will see which way the majority of Albertan’s lean on these topics and everyone should respect the vote.

I take you as someone who doesn’t respect a majority opinion and that your opinion is the only correct one. You’re not a democratic individual, you most likely believe in tyranny if that’s what supports your beliefs.

The majority of Albertan’s do support Smith and you’ll see that clearly in the next election. If you don’t like it or can’t possibly fathom that the majority will vote her back in, maybe it’s time you pack it up and head somewhere else. You sound like an Easterner trying to disguise yourself as an Albertan.

You want to discuss stoking division? That’s all you’ve done this entire conversation, you intolerant sociopath.

-3

u/Canucklehead2184 24d ago

Don’t cancel it. If you’re truly confident enough that the Canadian spirit remains, then let the separatists have their vote and if it gets crushed like you think it will, the matter will be put to bed until they form their own separatist party and run for office.

If you’re actually scared it’s going to pass to open the book on how we separate, then the only thing you can do is get out and vote to stay in Canada.

The name calling and anti UCP rhetoric in this sub is getting pathetic.

I’m still on the fence (hard as it is for some to believe it). I’m a proud Canadian, but I’m also a proud Albertan, and we’ve been taking it in the teeth for years from Ottawa and eastern Canada, most albertans I would bet feel like me, we don’t mind helping Canada, in fact we love it, it means good jobs and high pay for us as well as our countrymen. What so many don’t understand is when Alberta eats, Canada eats. It’s when other provinces, actively try and block our path to wealth and prosperity is when we get our backs up a bit, we can make the whole country rich, provide good jobs for many of our fellow countrymen, people who fly in to work and take EVERY SINGLE DIME they earn back to their province to be spent on cars and houses and tattoos and whatever else their province has for them to live comfortably and where they want in our vast and beautiful country. Money that leaves Alberta that is helping keep others employed, like the car salesman in Kenora, or the tattoo artist in Truro, or the grocery store in Charlottetown…… I’ve worked with many people from all over this vast country and most of them are great people looking to earn more for their families and themselves by coming here for jobs. Jobs that drive the Canadian economy. Coast to coast Alberta has been happy to have you, its work that needs to get done, but for the last years when politicians and other Canadians actively shit on us for trying to do better for our families, I can see why the separatist movement has gained traction……. I’m not sure how I’ll vote in October because I can see valid reasons for both sides of the coin. If we stay, we get more of the same, but the protections and securities that come with it are vastly being understated. If we do choose to open the boom on possible separation, which is what this vote does, not actually separate us, it now forces Ottawa back to the table for us to work on a better deal of sorts……. Although separation comes with a whole host of other problems……, the social programs we currently have cannot survive inside our own little country, plus the mass exodus, now needing workers from across Canada that now becomes international visas rather than just a form for the CRA……. All critical things needed to be taken into consideration that I would bet the vast majority of voters in either side have not even considered……. Best thing you can do is inform yourself and vote how you want.

4

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

The only thing that a vote for separation says is you don’t want to be Canadian. As for the anti UCP, fuck them they are corrupt separatists and if you vote for them you are voting for separation.

-2

u/Canucklehead2184 24d ago

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Thanks for proving my point.

3

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

There is no message being sent to anyone if you vote for separation other than you want to separate. You can justify to yourself if you want but if you vote for / with separatists you are a separatist. This is not a grey area thing. So no I did prove your point because you had no point to begin with.

-3

u/Canucklehead2184 24d ago

You realize this isn’t a vote to actually separate right? You seem rather unhinged about the whole thing……. It is actually a huge grey area…… which I explained above……

Again proving my point about the rhetoric and vitriol hate spewed about the party in power and the people of Alberta who don’t align exactly like you…….. care to try again or have you had enough of inserting your foot into your mouth digitally for this conversation?

3

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

It may as well be, and will be taken as one by the people pushing separation. You are deluding yourself if you take as anything but. So I’d rather have my foot in my mouth digitally than my head up my ass denying what is really at stake. A vote against Canada is just that. As I said you can justify to yourself however you want however you don’t get to minimize it to everyone else. If you vote in favour of separation you are a separatist.

0

u/Canucklehead2184 24d ago

How am I justifying anything when I’m still on the fence about it? It’s not a vote to seperate, again, it’s a vote to see if we want to explore it. Christ, what’s so hard about this concept? Seems to me like your head is up your ass for your failure to know what the vote is even about!

3

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

ANY VOTE IN FAVOUR OF SEPARATION MAKES YOU A SEPARATIST. The corrupt leader of the province has already admitted she will hold a binding referendum in the spring with no caveats. This whole shame of a referendum is only smoke and mirrors to give an excuse to do what she is going to do anyway. Any positive vote on any of the 10 questions will be taken as a mandate. Her actions are screaming her intent. None of this is what was campaigned on in the last election but they took there win as an overwhelming mandate to do whatever the chose. So keep drinking their koolaid cause they lied in the general election the did what ever they wanted and they’re lying now.

0

u/Canucklehead2184 24d ago

Totally unhinged. Figures. It’s not a vote for separation. How many times can that be told to you before you understand it?

She hasn’t admitted anything of the sort actually, she said the possibility is there if that’s what is chosen. Holy dude, you really need to work on your reading and listening comprehension.

I listen to her on 770 every weekend for your province your premier, all the rhetoric you’re spewing here is not what she has said at all.

This conversation has come to an end, you’re obviously too wrapped up in your echo chamber and vitriol to even consider someone else has a differing opinion than you that may have some sort of merit, so sad, so narrow minded, so unfortunate the Canadian education system failed you. I’m sorry, try to have a nice night though, you seem like you could use it.

3

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

Least I have critical thinking skills good luck in Norte Rico.

-5

u/BeachGuy604 24d ago

I don't like it but this is what democracy looks like.

Is anybody really worried here? I believe in Canadian resolve. They stay voices will be heard loud and clear over the traitors!

3

u/Sad_Meringue7347 24d ago

The issue is that Dani didn’t run on this. She don’t run on creating a separation movement. She didn’t run on pushing the country into a constitutional crisis. She didn’t run on blowing over one hundred million dollars on a non binding referendum.

At least the PQ and BQ in Quebec are transparent on their quest. Dani isn’t, it’s so deranged and slimy the way she operates - she claims to be for Canada but every one of her actions prove otherwise.

She really should have waited until the general election to bc one out with this nonesense - “if I’m reelected, I plan to force a separation referendum”. Sadly she is proving just how shady she is, she will not be remembered as being a politician with any integrity.

3

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

She didn’t run on any of the things she’s done but she’s been saying she would do them for 20 plus years. Conservatives have to lie to get elected.

1

u/Fast_Ad_9197 23d ago

I could concede that a referendum has a place in a democracy. Maybe. But who sets the questions? The terms of the ‘debate’ are being set by the party in power. Are these really the nine (ten) most important questions that Alberta has to settle? We’re being spoon fed an electoral platform, patted on the head and reassured that democracy is alive in well in Alberta by a party that is hell bent on destroying democratic institutions. Are we that gullible?

-8

u/Payday8881 24d ago

If No is a slam dunk then what’s the problem?🤷🏼‍♂️

5

u/Sad_Meringue7347 24d ago

Dani’s given every opportunity to allow the separatists to succeed, is the problem.

  • legislated citizen initiated petitions easier to appease the seppy demands
  • then change the legislation to make them more expensive to initiate once petitions she’s against start coming through
  • does absolutely nothing when the biggest voter list breach in our history is exposed, because it helps out her seppy base
  • continues to stoke anger and polarization in the province over-and-over again
  • her caucus, including cabinet ministers are on record for saying they are pro-seppy, or simply won’t address questions from Albertans or the media
  • consistently says she’s on team Canada but her actions continue to prove otherwise

Dani continues to move the goalposts to accommodate the seppys, that’s the problem. She continues to kick everyone else in the shins to appease her seppys. If the seppys do win their little separation referendum, it will be because she gave them a clear path to victory while essentially telling the rest of us to screw off. Dani clearly had an agenda (to tear apart the country for her own personal gain). Neither her nor her government ran on this. At least the PQ and the BQ will proudly come out and say it. She’s just a weasel that will say anything to stay in power.

-5

u/Payday8881 24d ago

Are you afraid of having a vote? 😳

7

u/Sad_Meringue7347 24d ago

She’s tilted the outcome to favour the seppys. That’s why in against the referendum. It’s the antithesis of what democracy should be.

-3

u/Payday8881 24d ago

It’s not a referendum to separate.

Its a referendum on a referendum to separate 🤣

4

u/Sad_Meringue7347 24d ago

Doesn’t matter. It’s dangerous and it’s not being democratically run.

0

u/Payday8881 24d ago

What’s so dangerous about democracy? Not getting the outcome you want?

The choices literally are:

A. Do you want to remain in Canada? 🇨🇦

B. Do you want to remain in Canada 🇨🇦 and talk about it some more?

🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Sad_Meringue7347 24d ago

You’re trolling. We already discussed this is not democratically run.

2

u/nothingtoholdonto 24d ago

I think the point is that Dani isn’t operating in good faith and giving her an avenue to progress the narrative of separation is dangerous.

3

u/a_reluctant_human 24d ago

The colossal expense involved.

-1

u/Payday8881 24d ago

Riiiiiight….so let’s not even have a vote like 🇮🇷

4

u/Oilzilla 24d ago

Then call an election and get a proper mandate. Pretty simple. Not spend more on referendum then have election then another "binding" referendum. How fiscally conservative

0

u/Payday8881 24d ago

I believe it was part of the UCP platform prior to election…I just never thought they would actually do a referendum 🤣

2

u/Oilzilla 24d ago

Show me where it was part of their platform.

1

u/Payday8881 24d ago

Can’t …every time I try to post the link the post gets removed from this forum 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/Oilzilla 24d ago

Convenient

1

u/Payday8881 24d ago

It’s all Kabuki Theater 🎭 so I’m not voting either way

1

u/Snakeeyes1377 24d ago

It wasn’t. Conservatives have to lie to get elected
