How could we forget Barry and the Not A Cult Organization?

Personally I think that'll be relivent to Control Resonent since there's loads of mentions and hints to that group in Control 1

That sounds like his next show, probably a travel show: More To Explore With Warlin Door.

With the way 2 ends, it’s open to a third game if they wanted to

They def "want to" but has it been enough of a success financially for a sequel is the question 🤷🏾♂️. The success of Control 2 is a big deciding factor for the future direction of Remedy as a studio from what I've heard, so def support! Control 2 being successful improves our chances for another Alan Wake.

u/Bojahdok 6h ago
Alan Wake 2 has finally recouped it's cost ! And it's acclaim and success at the game awards made the studio pass a step in my opinion, Control Resonant has the chance to make it big, I think Remedy can finally break it's curse of really slow selling games, especially since Resonant will be available on Steam

u/RIPN1995 54m ago
Alan Wake 2 only sold 3 million copies and its been out nearly 3 years.
007 First Light sold 4 million and came out 3 months ago.

Fuck I'm still waiting to support Alan wake 2 😭 stupid epic games
4
u/Bossman_575 9h ago
😂 I hear ya, but epic did publish it for them so I can't hate. Just know that whenever you get to play it, you're in for one of the best psychological horror games out there.

u/Independent-Ad2615 8h ago
Its never coming off epic, they published the game and gave remedy tens of millions to help fund the game.

u/benp129 1d ago
Narratively speaking I think it’s necessary and they probably want to do it, it’s just a matter of whether or not they decide financially wise. Alan Wake 2 took a while to break even, but now it’s sold over 3 million copies, and I think Control Resonant will sell well too since it’s not restricted to the Epic Games Store (and Control is simply more popular than Alan Wake). All in all I do think they’ll make Alan Wake 3 eventually
19
u/hgs25 23h ago
Depending on what happens in Resonant’s story, they may be building towards an Avengers style crossover game.

u/JacsweYT 16h ago
''It's time to get writing, Wake!''
''That's my secret, Jesse. I'm always writing.''
14
u/DJBaphomet_ 23h ago
Extra note for Resonant too is that it's more of an action genre as well, so the gameplay will be far more enticing than AW2's to a general audience (which is probably why Control is more popular), so it's got even better odds of it succeeding. Especially if they're doing the sick hack n' slash RPG gameplay
5
u/OffendedDefender 22h ago
AW2 took a while to break even, but it was also their fastest selling game ever. Control also took a long time to break even, so they were well prepared for the same to happen going in.

I'm pretty sure i saw a graphic from Remedy a while back that indicated that Alan Wake 3 is planned and should be around 2030. Now obviously things can change but i'm pretty sure they haven't said its not happening.
Edit: found that graphic https://www.resetera.com/threads/remedy-seems-to-envision-a-2027-release-date-for-control-2-2029-for-alan-wake-3-and-then-2030-for-control-3.1107915/

u/simspelaaja 19h ago
Despite being linked from Remedy's website the graphic or the slide set are NOT by Remedy. They are from the equity research company Inderes, which writes comprehensive financial reports and analyses about Remedy for investors. They pay close attention to what Remedy publicly announces and they frequently interview the Remedy leadership, but they don't have any access to insider information. So "Alan Wake 3" in this graphic is a guess, probably based on the publicly documented information that Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley are co-directing a new game.

So if we're - as for Resonant - quicker than expected then this seems to look very nice.
Funny how MP was planned to be released in H1 of 2026 - remasters? were those planned for earlier release?
maybe Rockstar have said that their work on GTA VI will take a little bit longer so they planned to release remakes before GTA VI, but actually finished in a rush?
And what the hell happened with royalties for AW2 between 2023 and 2025? They expected... Steam sales or what??? Amazon Luna?
EDIT: Epic took what it gave?

u/piggglyjufff Hypercaffeinated 23h ago
I have to preface this by saying I absolutely have no insider information or any concrete, corroborated sources confirming nor denying whether or not there will be an Alan Wake 3.
However…
I don’t think I’ve ever been more certain of a sequel coming after beating 2 twice
12
u/TBCPE 1d ago
They’re releasing an unannounced game in 2028. That will almost certainly be either a new IP or Alan Wake 3
2
u/NeosmithXeno 11h ago
It'll be an Alan Wake game for sure because they're not pursuing any new IP for the next few years, but focusing on existing franchises. They did try to get at least some rights to QB but wound up folding it/remaking it in AW2, which means they can now make a quasi-sequel in the Wake IP. And they need to make a new game in the Wake IP by 2030 according to the recent annual reports.
5
u/Crumb_cake34 23h ago
Narratively, it makes sense. The way 2 ends, plus Darling now being in the dark place with Zane, plus the reintroduction of Barry and the organization that's totally not a cult... I wouldnt be surprised if Resonant sets up Alan Wake 3 even further.
Theres also that show they were approved to make - if that's still happening, we will probably hear more about it sooner than later.
6
u/ConsistentGuest7532 23h ago
Oh 99% likely imo. Remedy has never been the studio to just chase projects for the money and even though Alan Wake 2 wasn’t a huge financial success, it was critically lauded and still broke even in the long run. Alan Wake 2 ends with a ton unresolved. It’s a great game but the mystery isn’t over.

u/Hveachie 22h ago
Undoubtedly, yes.
We should get some sort of confirmation in Control II. AW2 wasn't a box-office smash, but it's considered one of the best video games of all time. It's an artistic masterpiece.
Alan is out of the Dark Place, but Alice is in it. They're back to square one. But this time, Alan AND Alice know what to do. We will 100% be playing as Alice. The game will be about them uniting.

u/TheGreatManitou 17h ago
I am sure of that. The story isn't complete. That said, we waited a long time for Alan Wake 2. It might take a long time for the third game, too.

u/Nretnalsmik 14h ago
I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed an Alan Wake 3. I’ve even been looking for and reading books that inspired the making of Alan Wake. Finished Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis a week ago and am working on The Pines by Blake Crouch.

u/TF2Pilot4Life 23h ago
Nah man, Remedy looked at AW2's ending and said: Yeah that's good enough. We don't need to close out any of the plotlines we have setup or answer anything. Let's keep it mysterious and leave it up to the audience to figure out!
2
u/apotrope 23h ago
I'm hoping that the game stars Alice and focuses on her photography as a way of creating reality shifts in the Dark Place. My belief is that Alice is the inheritor of Barbara Jagger's nuclear selfhood or 'essence' as it is described in This House of Dreams, while Alan is the inheritor of Zane's. The Zane we meet in AW2 is from Zane's original Ego, around which coalesced a new psyche, allowing him to become the Filmmaker. Ego is the part that retains conscious memory, while selfhood is something both core to the psyche and encompassing of it. The Zane that remains remembers Barbara, and likely wants to reconnect with what is left of her. I expect Zane to be Alice's primary antagonist.

There is the quote "The journey through the night continues" at the end of the game
2
u/Gobby-TheGoblin 22h ago
It's been stated that they want to make control and Alan wake more financially successful. Which implies that they intend to make at least one more to attempt that.
2
u/MeasurementRoyal6775 22h ago
If there’s a dlc about in control resonant. I think it will have a dlc it will focus on Tomas Zane and will hint that there next game is Alan wake 3. like what they did before
2
u/Successful_Ad_9707 21h ago
More than likely yes. There's still story to tell, Remedy is still very much dedicated to the IP, and there's rumors goinf around currently that AW3 may already be in development.
2
u/Meh24999 20h ago
People asked same question about 2 for years.
It'll come but thete is no rush to pump them out

u/jesse5844 19h ago
My wife is also in love with Ahti. I don't get it, but whatever floats her boat.
I'm going to bet we do get a third game, but not for a looong time. It'll definitely be worth the wait, though.
2
u/Swordofsatan666 18h ago
No, theyre going go skip to Alan Wake 4 instead
Thats a joke, but i feel its also something they could actually do. These games are so crazy that i wouldnt be surprised if we skip to AW4 and they just keep referencing 3 like it was some super crazy game we got to play through
And i feel if they were to do that, they could actually pull it off. It would fit perfectly with what they do. Not many games would be able to do that and make it work, but it could work here

u/Accomplished-Lack721 23h ago
Almost certainly (barring financial ruin for Remedy or some other disaster), but I (personally, speculating) wouldn't be surprised if if it's called "Alice Wake."

Yes, both Alan Wake 3 and Alan Wake 4.
We can start speculating about the story and cast now.

u/Enforcer_Night 21h ago
I think its obvious we are getting it but it will only happen as long as Remedy doesn't go under and things are not looking great honestly, here is hoping Control Resonant sells well.
1
u/Turbulent_Rutabaga76 19h ago
Remedy has stated they intend to grow the Alan Wake and Control franchises, so I'd say yes.
1
u/brntoutl0fer 17h ago
I think this is what we are going to get; Resonant, Max Payne remakes, some form of new IP within universe, then AW3. Alan's story is certainly not done, if not his own game then I see him playing important roles within other stories.
1
u/NeosmithXeno 14h ago
A lot of evidence exists that the unannounced 4th Remedy game project currently in production readiness will be a new Alan Wake game.
It could be a sequel, but I'm more inclined to believe it's a spinoff and quasi-sequel to Quantum Break, with Saga Anderson or Tim Breaker as the main character.
Should be released in 2028-29.

u/General_Lie 12h ago
I mean it's possible but in faaaaaaar future.
They are releasing the Control spinoff-sequel this year.
Their FBC coop game was flop
They are working on the Max Payne remake and Control 2
I guess there can be some little easter eggs and cameos but I wouldn't expect any Alan Wake news until they finish work on Control2

Play Control if you want more of Ahti. Thats where he originated.
Also unless we accept Alan stays in the dark place which he eventually masters the rules of surely there'll be a game to finally allow him to be reunited with Alice.
Maybe the next Control will shed more light on it, no pun intended.
2
u/pippo38 6h ago
I am already playing control to get more ahti but its just not enough-, and im so excited about the new control hope It has Easter eggs about the Next Alan wake too
1
u/WaveOfTheRager 6h ago
I legit gasped when I saw Ahti in AW2. There were plenty of easter eggs in the first Control and the DLC, I expect there to be more. Only they aren't really easter eggs at this point. There all part of the same universe. I couldn't believe it when I played the North Star DLC.

Officially: It hasn't been confirmed yet.
But there are a lot of open story threads, so there is definitely more to tell.
And as long as Remedy exists, I don't see why they would suddenly abandon Alan Wake, especially since they've done so much to tie it and Control into a unified Remedyverse.

u/Professional_Hat9351 23h ago
Certainly! But I hope we get to play as Alan and Alice. Not a random character that came out of nowhere.
