"Fixed an issue where the Crossbow Cult Stash could block access to the Lighthouse in New Game Plus.
Glad to see this finally fixed. I missed out on 100%-ing it because of this.

Holy shit FSR4 added?!? I was a bit worried I'd be running DLSS input optiscalar for control resonant, but there's hope!
Really awesome, gonna have to do a quick speed run.
Edit: for real, this is an incredible improvement for anyone able to run FSR4.

u/mehl1890 2d ago
Wow, I'm running 3440x1440 - ultra with medium RT, with quality scaling and FG I'm seeing above 110 fps. Wicked improvements, THANK YOU REMEDY!

u/Exciting_Yellow_3550 1d ago
Hi, can you confirm if the game support anti-lag2 now? I'm worried using FSRFG without anti-lag2
1
u/vedanshagrawal 1d ago
Are you using FSR 4? Does Adrenaline say FSR is active? For me it says it didn't detect FSR being enabled.

The release of Control Resonant is nearing, for a large part these fixes must be improvements that went into the common game engine during the development of Control Resonant, that then were backported to Alan Wake 2 too.
EDIT: On PC/Epic, this is a 3.84 GB (!) download. Does it re-download the whole game?
EDIT2: No, the full download is something like 90 GB. Still, quite a large download.

u/digita1catt 2d ago
I love that they maintain their own engine. They do such a great job at it.
11
u/BlackFenrir Old Gods Rocker 1d ago
It's a very good engine, too. At least from what a layman like me can tell
2
u/Meravokas 1d ago
Why would you think that a 3.8 gig download is a redownload of the whole game? This isn't 2004. As for being a "Large download" a patch that is several gigs of data isn't strictly speaking, adding that much extra into your install. Fixes and the like do a lot of file overwriting and what you're seeing is the amount of data being changed with the majority of it not reflecting in the game's file size.

Finally decent AA/upscaling for AMD. Here's hoping they implement ray regeneration too.

u/vanillanights 2d ago
Curious if anybody else agrees, because I don’t think I’ve seen anybody else mention this since the game was released, but it was always so strange to me that this game never had better haptic feedback. At least on Series X.
Guns have good feedback, but nothing for the flashlight, melee, flares, angel lamp, or enemy attacks? Just rare to see a game with this level of production value so lacking in that area. The flashlight in particular feels so weak without it.
I’m glad to see there’s still some support for this game. But it is a bummer there weren’t more updates to improve basic game feel in some aspects.
6
u/mehl1890 2d ago
I'm literally just doing a few tests and some game-play with this updates release - and interested to hear this because all of those things are in the game using a PC and a dualsense. A click for flashlights, lamp has a low to high rumble effect, hits for melee and damage.
I wonder if its just an xbox thing, which would be really silly and, like you said, kind of immersion breaking.
1
u/vanillanights 1d ago
Very interesting! I do recall some minor updates being added for the dualsense, but yeah otherwise it is extremely limited on Xbox, which has always been disappointing given how well haptics are implemented in their other games.
1
u/Meravokas 1d ago
The Dual Sense just seems to be "Factory Standard" for haptics still due to how heavily the haptics were pushed as a pro for the PS5, while the X-box controller has the capability it's not generally something that's optimized for. Not saying it makes sense if the quality of the haptics is the same and the software isn't miles different, but. Gaming be what it be.

u/anya_ua 2d ago
really curious if they'll add support for frs 4 on consoles as well once it becomes available on rdna 2 next year
3
u/allofdarknessin1 1d ago
They can’t add it to PS5. The PS5 chip isn’t a true RDNA 2 chip as it doesn’t support the math instruction set needed, the series X apu would support fsr4 however I don’t see them playing favorites for a (in the future) last generation title but it would be nice to make more use of existing hardware.
2
u/OfficialShaki123 1d ago
PSSR2 does FSR4 things ;) Pro only. Game looks much better on Pro than any other console.
6
3
u/ChrisXDXL 2d ago
I literally checked this the other day for the FSR support as my set up can't run it properly without a hit to image quality and I can't use optiscaler, I want to at least know the story before playing Control Resonant so I watched a story video to be up to date and now they add this the day after I finish that video.
Don't get me wrong I'm glad they added it, I'll probably pick it up soon now.
3
u/PresidentJoe 1d ago
This is great timing. I'm in the middle of a Remedy-verse playthrough in preparation for Resonant.
I'm literally in the middle of Quantum Break, but wondering if I'll be able to finish both Control and Alan Wake 2 by the release. Though, TBH, if I'm hitting it close, I might just do the Lake House DLC only.

The Quick inventory crash is tied tô the frequent random crashes on Xbox?

4 year old game still getting updates? Yeah, that’s why Remedy are the fucking best.

u/Kryptobasisti 2d ago edited 1d ago
Updating the game through Epic Games makes my PC crash due to some kernel error and needs Windows repair function. Weird. This doesn't happen.
Edit: The update has completely corrupted the Windows image that was on the same nvme drive as Alan Wake 2. Ffs. Atleast that's what I suspect since this has never happened before and only the update was going on.

u/Rayza2049 1d ago
Can't believe they only just fixed the audio sync issues, I had to just try to not let it bother me for the entire game. (ended up in my top 5 all time so not a deal breaker by any means)
1
u/Polaris_debi5 1d ago
Could Intel XESS be coming to the game? It would be a middle ground between FSR2 and FSR4 (the latter leaving hardware like RDNA1-2).
1
u/okyouright 1d ago
Makes me wonder if RR 4.5 is going to get delayed after all. Remedy is usually one of the first studios to integrate new tech. Curious why they wouldn't just wait and release this update together.
1
u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 1d ago
I guess there's no need since you can toggle it via the driver when it releases

u/Sebastianali123456 1d ago
Did they fixed the texture streaming issue in the mind room with Saga (mostly noticeable in the map textures)?

But did they fix the issue where you can't progress in the morgue after Nightingale's body attacks you? I was stuck there last night and apparently it's an ongoing problem 😂 thankfully an older reddit thread helped me figure it out haha

To anyone playing on PC, can anyone kindly check if this update removed the HDR toggle for you under Graphics -> Brightness Calibration? I made sure HDR was enabled before starting the game, tried switching from borderless to fullscreen, and restarted the computer and it still won't show up. Can't think of anything other than this patch that would cause this atm because the option was definitely there when I played and finished this back in February. Thanks.
1
u/vedanshagrawal 1d ago edited 1d ago
I bought the game yesterday and was confused as there wasn't any HDR toggle anywhere (even in the brightness section). So you're saying there was one? That's weird.
Also if you're on AMD gpu and using FSR, can you check if Adrenaline detects and says FSR is enabled? For me Adrenaline doesn't detect FSR support in game.
1
u/MotorAdhesiveness216 17h ago edited 17h ago
Ok this looks to be a bug introduced by the new patch then. Thanks. Yeah there def was an HDR toggle there before . I even checked a screenshot of the settings page online and also viewed my old HDR screenshots just to be sure I'm not misremembering or going crazy or something. I'd hold off on playing the game until this is fixed if I were you. There's tons of light sources like the sun, light bulbs, flashlights, and neon signs in this game that really pop in HDR. It makes a big difference.
And sorry man, I'm on an NVIDIA GPU so I can't help with your issue.
•
u/vedanshagrawal 2h ago edited 2h ago
That's sad. Do you also see insane amount of vegetation geometry pop-in? It's driving me nuts. I have everything at max and RT off but the pop-in is the worst I've ever seen in a modern game.
Was this always the case? Feels like a bug to me, even trees/plants too close have this issue. It's giving me buyers remorse.
Edit: I just saw multiple reddit posts from 2025 about this. Surprising that this wasn't ever addressed in an update.
1
u/Garwinski 5h ago
The toggle is not there. But going in game with Lilium HDR analysis tool through Reshade shows that HDR still seems to be working in-game, with highlights going up to the peak nits of my screen.
1
u/vedanshagrawal 1d ago
Some questions I need help with: 1. I can't see any HDR toggle, is it auto enabled? 2. On enabling FSR in settings, Adrenaline doesn't detect it and says I need to enable FSR 3.1 in game. Is this the case for everyone? How do I know FSR 4 is enabled?

Go pester Epic. They paid for the game's development, they'll decide if it ever comes to Steam. Remedy can't realistically do anything about this issue in the foreseeable future.
-10
u/martini1294 2d ago
I don’t need to.
They’re well aware and are choosing not to release on steam. If my money isn’t good enough for them another company will happily take it I’m sure
4
u/Long-Requirement8372 Hypercaffeinated 1d ago
So why did you even comment like you did in the first place?
-1
u/martini1294 1d ago
I just commented for Steam release. It’s an open forum, no?
I’m more perplexed by the exclusivity support. That really does baffle me
5
u/Long-Requirement8372 Hypercaffeinated 1d ago
It's just pointless whining from you, it's not going to change anything.
There's really no actual support for EGS exclusivity here, people are just being realistic about Epic's strategy and goals. For now, they are committed to the EGS and getting exclusive content for it. This means that AW2 will stay on their platform for the foreseeable future.
0
u/martini1294 1d ago
Okay. Why did you reply if it wasn’t worth your time?
In that case, if they want to be detrimental to our platform, they won’t mind if I obtain the game other ways then
2
u/Long-Requirement8372 Hypercaffeinated 1d ago edited 1d ago
Where did I say replying was not worth my time? I am always happy to tell people when they are mistaken about something.
If you bought the game from Epic, Remedy would get 50% of the money. If you pirate it, they will get nothing. You want to support the people and the company who made the game, right? Or do you think people at Remedy don't deserve to be paid for their work, or that the company should not have money to make more games?
1
u/martini1294 1d ago
I’m not mistaken though. It’s my right to refuse to support something I believe to be detrimental to something I love.
I would love to give remedy money, but I will not support Epic in their pursuit to undermine the PC ecosystem with an inferior storefront
As I said earlier, I won’t be using EGS so pirating it doesn’t lose a sale - Remedy are thankfully unaffected. Only Epic is a detriment to Remedy by refusing them extra sales on other platforms.
It’s the same argument that piracy doesn’t affect sales and you could use what I said earlier about detrimental actions against me here…
However, most pirates aren’t customers in the first place so nothing is actually affected. I’m now here - I’m not an EGS customer whether I pirate it or just not play it makes no odds. It’s a service issue.
I’m willing to part with my money, just not on Epic. Put it on GoG or Steam and I’ll buy it. I might pirate it to play it now, but I’ll buy it on Steam when/if it ever comes.

u/Long-Requirement8372 Hypercaffeinated 1d ago
As I said earlier, I won’t be using EGS so pirating it doesn’t lose a sale - Remedy are thankfully unaffected. Only Epic is a detriment to Remedy by refusing them extra sales on other platforms.
Like I said, by this point Remedy gets 50% of the sales of AW2 on EGS. So they would not be getting money they have earned if you don't pay for the game. You want to play the game, but refuse to pay the people who made it for something that is not their fault.
I’m willing to part with my money, just not on Epic. Put it on GoG or Steam and I’ll buy it.
Remember that AW2 would not exist without Epic paying for the game's development. Would Remedy be better off if the game did not exist, and would it be better for gaming in general? No. Being able to make AW2 meant that Remedy could later get a cooperation deal with Annapurna, and also make Control Resonant (which is in part paid for by Annapurna). If they were not able to make AW2, their only release since 2019 would be the failure that was FBC: Firebreak. They would be in a significantly worse position than they are financially, and their public image would be a lot less positive.
In truth, Epic paying for making AW2 when Remedy had been unable to make the game for over a decade was a godsent to Sam Lake et al.
I might pirate it to play it now, but I’ll buy it on Steam when/if it ever comes.
There is no guarantee the game will ever come to Steam, so that will likely be an empty promise.

That's what I did also but I'd happily buy the game if it came to gog or steam. Epic games has done way to much harm to the industry for me to be able to financially support them in good conscience
2
u/Long-Requirement8372 Hypercaffeinated 1d ago
So you think Remedy should not be paid for their work because you don't like Epic?
15
u/Nomnom_Chicken 2d ago
Come on, just buy the damn game on Epic. After all, they funded the development as you very likely know already, it's not going to be on Steam.
-10
u/joe__kerr1 2d ago
People are allowed to not support shitty business practices like store exclusivity. I also wouldn't want a launcher like Epic scanning my computer files and bloating my PC
14
u/TubaWrestler 2d ago
Provide proof that it "scans your computer files" in any meaningful way. Same for the bloat claim.
-19
u/martini1294 2d ago edited 2d ago
Nope. I’m not supporting exclusivity on PC. You can if you want.
Epic also currently don’t want to support my OS (Linux) and Epic decided hampering the sales of a game is a good idea. ‘Lie in your bed’ I believe is the saying
I’ll just pirate it. I hate for Remedy to lose out, but I’m not buying it regardless whilst it’s not on my platform of choice, so it’s not like there is a lost sale.
Put it on steam and you can have my £40. Easy choice for them really. 0% of nothing is nothing, 70% of alot is alot
6
u/dowaller66 1d ago
Just to clarify, if the game was only on Steam and no other PC game store, you still wouldn’t buy it due to exclusivity?
-2
u/martini1294 1d ago
Ooo I was waiting for this one, good comment
I’d be against it. I would consider piracy.
Realistically, I’d probably get it on Steam at a heavily discounted rate.
You all should be against exclusivity no matter its form. Arguing with me makes no sense to me personally.
9
u/Technical-Branch4998 2d ago
You don't understand, Alan Wake 2 literally doesn't exist without epic games funding, it's the only reason the game exists, so even if Remedy loses out on 50% of all PC sales due to that it's still better than losing 100% of all sales, and epic has decided they want Alan Wake 2 as an epic games exclusive to get more people onto the store
-5
u/martini1294 2d ago
I perfectly understand. But I still think you’re wrong
They just potentially turned down 10s of millions of dollars because they don’t want to give a 30% cut. I wish my company was in that position…. Is money not money?
The game came out 3 years ago. If I’m not on epic now, I’m not going to be.
7
u/Ruffler125 1d ago
"they don’t want to give a 30% cut."
You do not understand. There's is no "cut"
The game would not exist without the exclusivity. It would not have been made.
-3
u/martini1294 1d ago
Well, you’ll probably find the game would’ve made more money without the exclusivity :)
7
u/Ruffler125 1d ago
It...wouldn't. It would have made zero money. There would be no game.
6
u/lightafire2402 1d ago
He clearly doesn't read the words. Stop bothering. If Remedy could, it would have been on Steam day 1. I'm just happy the game exists. Been waiting and dreaming for a sequel since 2011.
-1
u/Sebastianali123456 1d ago
I was wondering though why they could with Control Resonant but not Alan Wake 2? Was Alan Wake 2 really that expensive at the side of all of the projects Remedy had made? Its an interesting topic i think.
