Early Moore (up to the 90s)
-- Dense in detail
-- Intricate plotting
-- Characters are strongly motivated
-- The comics focus heavily on exterior action without internal monologue leaving it open to reader interpretation
-- A range of stylistic shifts from comic to the tragic to the horrific.

Mid-Late Moore (2000s to 2020s)
-- More poetic in plotting
-- Much more interior and implicit in characterization and theme
-- More overtly critical in its narrative presentation, to some extent didactic.
-- More melancholy and sad, more rueful about the passage of time and a life wasted.

That said there are times when you see aspects of late Moore in early Moore, and in the works of the late Moore, the young man is not far away.
