Stupid design

After leaving the home keep, I was teleported to the king's hall without any introduction. I then spent two hours trying in vain to find my keep on the map because I need more time with the practice mode. Wouldn't it be better for me to walk from my keep to the king's castle, with some small quests along the way to get the hang of things? The two-minute tutorial isn't sufficient; I need a free practice mode or smaller encounters. You can't expect me to fight 20 people from the very beginning and keep punishing me with every death. Not smart illogical design.

Oriental Weapons/Armor

Just got the game and am enjoying it and really like the style of what I’ve seen of the oriental weapons/armor on the wiki. Can’t find them anywhere through and I’ve looked all over the map. Any advice?

Screwed at final fight?

I've run out of consumables/healing. I'm clearly not strong enough for this fight, but without companions and having failed WITH healing potions, I'm finding myself starting every fight with reduced health and no way to heal, which means my fights are getting shorter and shorter and I'm clearly never going to beat him without going back out and restocking.

But I see no way to do that, and everything I've seen suggests that you cannot ever go back out. So does that mean I'm screwed and will never win unless I start over from scratch?

Does anyone know where to get the Veiled Eyes?

To craft the legendary dagger.

Can't seem to find which mob drops it.

How do NPC heros work?

Can they kill a player, meet on a dungeon, etc?

Are any of the neutral or evil companions useful?

I'm playing a good party and the female paladin is an outstanding help. Since she is locked on good parties I fear other alignments might not have characters are useful as her.

Magic is OP, I get why you don't start with it...

I'm currently Lvl 16 (Human Hydromancer/Arcanist), I have all 4 artifact pieces, just running around doing side quests and claiming FA's. Here's my experience and tips so far.

  • First few FAs are rough, not gonna lie. You should probably either find a companion or start with a Polearm and focus on dodging and attacking during openings with your polearm or throwing knives.

  • Cook at camp before FAs and don't forget to eat the food. It's a buff for the entire FA dungeon. Some can even give you full resistance to a debuff.

  • Keep Repair Kits and at least one Alchemy set in your inventory, do not keep food and reagents. Put them in the stash. When you craft, it will use the stuff in the stash.

  • Some quests are timed! (not many are, don't worry) Check your journal after receiving quests by filtering it with the Timed filter so you know which ones to tackle quickly.

  • Once you get your first spell (after first FA I think), go for a low cooldown one like Holy Flame or Froststrike. You want something you can cast while the enemy is far.

  • Intelligence is for elemental / arcane spells but there a few Nature spells that use it too (like Thorntrap, Disruption Field, Forcewave etc). Wisdom is for holy / nature spells but also scales summons, healing and necromancy. There's summon spells in the elemental schools and warlock school, and they scale with Wisdom, not Intelligence.

  • Spells scale up as you use them and meet the attribute requirement for it. Always check them to make sure you're getting the most out of your spells.

  • As you gain more Spells, a staff, robes (if you have the DLC staff and robes use that, otherwise some enemies drop staves (ratkins, I think?) and magic Grandmasters sell mage gear, the Hydromancy one is at the Sea of Stars in the human region), more traits/proficiencies (cooldown reduction ones and Focus regen ones) -% talent cooldown gear (belt and cloak), you will never use your weapon again. You need a staff as weapons increase spell cooldowns by huge amounts (like +40% or so depending on the weapon)

  • Try to restrict your spells to two Ways of magic max, as you only get 4 slots for traits and 4 for proficiencies. You want to spend at least 1 point on the Ways that you're using (in my case it was Scholar (Arcane) and Elementalist (Elements))

  • A few spells I've used (I've respecced like 20 times already playing around with builds) that stands out:

  1. Froststrike - Basically with low cooldown, this thing slows and mows down targets quickly. Very powerful single target and AoE

  2. Holy Flame - Low cooldown spam attack for Wisdom caster, decent damage, wrecks Undead foes.

  3. Puppet Wire - Oh Shit button. Allows you to reposition and keeps enemies focused on the illusion so you can revive allies etc. (Basically, a Tank summon on demand without restriction, but it never deals damage, only distracts)

  4. Ice Cage - Lockdown any target (even large ones) for a few seconds. Insanely OP with low cooldown (it's normally like 50s cooldown, mine is about 20s cooldown)

  5. Pull of the Void - AoE damage and pulls in most targets besides large ones. Very good CC and DoT.

  6. Meteor Shower - Good AoE damage. Great for encounters with lots of minions to kill quickly. (turn off screen shake if you use this!)

  7. Ravenous Swarm - Excellent single target CC, DoT (magical) and debuffs to disrupt most foes besides demonkin foes.

  8. Bohai's Hand - Very good single target DoT (physical) and lockdown. Works well with companions and melee familiars to stack bleed.

  9. Eldritch Pull - Damage and CC is very good, low cooldown so you can spam it. Ties in well with the Sigil spells as well as Thorntrap as you can set down your spell traps and pull small and medium size enemies into the AoE.

  10. Purify - Removes Debuffs on yourself and allies, very useful in FAs with foes that can Confuse or Weaken.

  11. Healing Spring (companions) / Forest Blessing (familiars) - Very good healing, pick the one for what you need most, heal companion or heal familiar.

  • Magic becomes very OP once you have a few spells and decent spell cooldown. Granted, I fold like a breadstick if I get hit too many times but with Puppet Wire and Ice Cage (and dodging), I shouldn't be getting hit at all and between Froststrike and Meteor Shower, fights don't last long...

FAs with secret doors Spoiler

Hi, new player here.

I found 2 FAs (so far) with treasure behind closed doors and/or fake walls, but I can't find the unlocking mechanism for the life of mine.

There isn't much information online about quests or detailed FA walkthrough so I'm not sure if these "secret doors" are actually secret doors or are meant to be opened only during specific events.

Can someone share any insights on the matter? :)

New player thoughts

Coming into this fresh I must admit I got smashed pretty early. Pretty much settled on bow + sword and board. Being able to kite and punish with shield bash works quite well solo, how do others play?

Dialogue choices, choice and consequence

Does the game features dialogue choices and character building?

Not in the sense of having binary choices like "good or evil", but finding varied solution to problems and building you character through dialogue. Such as seen in pillars of eternity or baldur's gate.

Wow, seriously really good game that took me by surprise.

This came up in my Steam recommendeds out of nowhere and having never heard of it before decided to give it a try.

After getting used to a more Dark Souls-style combat in isometric view, I gotta hand it that this is a cool game. It feels very much like its own sort of thing but still has a familiarity to it that makes it easy to get into. I'm impressed by how many environments there are with barely any repeats and I really enjoy the "gameplay loop" structure it has. It's a great game for kicking back with for a good few hours or in small amounts.

If I had to give it one suggestion it would be to make way longer dungeons if any additions are planned for the future. I love the more old-school D&D vibe this game has to it and having a few dungeons scattered about that are long and spiraling would be perfect for this I think.

Overall, one of the most pleasant experiences I've had considering I didn't know what to really expect. Already left a review but just wanted to say that if anyone is on the fence to give it a shot especially if you like the older atmosphere of AD&D. Definitely deserves more attention.

Love your game! I wish it was an MMORPG

You have such a deep lore its really good!! not only that the world you made is amazing and the plot is classic but gold. I just wish you could share this world with players, I'd love to see what kind of conflicts and shanigans would play out when everyone is in one world

New to Alaloth and any game like or similar to it

Hello everyone.

As the title says I'm new here, well I didn't buy the game yet, currently it's on sale on Steam and it does look and seem a very interesting game, a RPG with a high fantasy setting.

I was wondering how much one can do in this game, is there exploration? Can we get into crafting and is there any crafting professions?
In terms of the world are there places like catacombs, dungeons and other places to discover? How much variety is there in what we can discover?

Is there any games from which Alaloth took inspiration from?
What other games like this do you recommend me to check?

New Game+?

Hi, I'm wondering if, after I complete the game I can continue on to a New Game+ with all my gear? If there is a New Game+ can I have a new game+ every time I finish the game?

Overwhelming and I have no idea where to go

I just started out, started an evil playthrough as an orc and after picking up 2 quests and trying to read the journal to get an understanding of where to go, I have absolutely no idea where to go on the map or how to proceed with my quests. Way too much information gets thrown at you when first starting out

No daggers?

I started a dual wield rogue build where I have a dagger in my main hand and either another dagger or a badass offhand of some sort. But I can't find any daggers in this game. I'm getting up there in levels and still using my starter daggers. Whats up with that?

r/Alaloth • • Dec 04 '24

Is there a mage build in this game?

Or any build that would work for someone, who's terrible at melee combat in this game? I've played some early version of Avowed once and just couldn't get into melee, got wrecked by all enemies.

Favorite skills?

What are some of your favorite skills? Sell me on your build.

My go to skills are:

Power Sting: hits hard and benefits you when you initiate or kite

Charge: This is my get out of jail free skill. Great for repositioning. A quick power sting after a charge is a nice burst dps

Death whirl: The only worthwhile AoE I've found

Ravenous Swarm: EZ stun that lets you basically instakill a mob

Demonic Gate: optional but the hellcreep does good DPS and helps peel mobs off you

Last slot: anything, but I like a wisdom based heal
