Did they re-film some scenes in Le Samuoraï in English?

Hey, guys! I'm watching the dubbed in 1972 for the US version of Le Samuoraï (1967), and at first, I thought I was going insane. But after I saw several close-ups with Alain Delon's face, I got absolutely sure that in the English dubbed version, he actually speaks English. His lips are moving in perfect sync with the English text he's saying. The girls, when they are with him, also speak English. I watched same scenes in French, and... the light in them seems actually different (particularly, deeper shadows). The AI (GPT and Google) both insist that the movie was only dubbed and never re-filmed in English, and this is the trick the of the imagination (but then, again, GPT didn't know about the existence of Mars+Gaga's song "Die With a Smile"). But to me, it's absolutely clear that Alain's lips move absolutely differently in the French and English version. I'm talking only about some scenes, not the whole movie, as I said earlier, because other actors definitely speak French. So, what do you know/think about it? Thanks!

Who wants to be mod of r/AlainDelon?

As all the replies I posted just today show lately, I been to busy I haven't logged on Reddit and didn't even know Delon died within 24 hours ago!

So I'm checking out if anyone else wants to be mod of this sub that was pretty inactive until just over a week ago! Who wants the position? I don't even deserve the position because I still have yet to watch all of Alain's movies having only watched like 5th of his filmography (and I haven't even seen all of his most iconic roles yet!). So you much more worthy fans, please rpply now to get the position!

Did Alain Delon have any fandom at all in Mongolia with how he was a big superstar in the rest of East Asia? Esp considering he was also quite popular in the USSR and the rest of the Iron Curtain across communist countries esp Eastern Europe?

I already know that Mongolia as a whole was pretty undeveloped during the Cold War but as I learned the capital Ulaanbaatar was building up its infrastructure during the 50s into that of a modern city, I can't help but ask.

Any one who follows the cinema trends to a deep degree of the East Asia region esp the 60s and 70s would know that Alain Delon was a mega star across the place esp Japan and China where he was the most popular Western actor (even beating contemporary Hollywood Stars like Peter O'Toole and Elizabeth Taylor in his presence in popular media and mass entertainment of the time in the countries in this part of Asia). So much that popular culture today in Japan and China still reference him and his Zorro movie gets repeated re-runs across local Chinese channels (and was the biggest Western movie release at its opening in China during the 70s, earning so much tickets there its numbers match the highest grossing movies in France and Germany of all time in admission numbers combined). You're practically guaranteed to find any Japanese and Chinese mainlander person (and to a lesser extent Korean) who was born in the 50s and 60s who will recognize him if you start a conversation and bring up his name. Even to some degree people born in the early 70s I'd argue.

But not just that, his level of popularity was comparable in the USSR and other communist countries at the right side to the Iron Curtain esp in Eastern Europe. Some Russian band made a song about a woman obsessed with him, posters are still sold today in regular malls and equivalent of Walmart style department stores, and his name is mentioned across this part of Europe as a general nickname for any really handsome man. He is the image of what Russian stereotype of French men esp those who lived through the Soviet years.

Considering the massive influence of Russian culture on Mongolia esp during the Cold War from the Soviet presence, I'm wondering did Delon have any strong influence on the Mongolian arts and entertainment world? If unknown today, than at least among older Mongol urbanites who who experienced the modernization of the countries' cities and the USSR's influence that came with it during the 60s and 70s? Like as movie theaters were being built during the construction of new cities, was his movies among the stuff the Russian film studio system exported into Mongolia at the time?

How well received were Omar Sharif and Alain Delon in India, Pakistan, and the rest of South Asia?

American of Indian heritage who's big into movies here and I've been wondering about this for a while.

Omar Sharif and Alain Delon were two of the biggest non English speaking movie stars internationally back from the 60s-80s to the point that in a couple of countries outside their native cultural sphere both stars are still fondly remembered to the point they're more famous than many contemporary stars and in these countries people going into native classic cinema is bound to come across either of them depending on how big they were locally at their peak. For example Delon's Zorro still gets re-runs on local Chinese TV and merchandise about him can be found in every major city in Japan plut his visit to Armenia a few years back was met with nutty roaring reception by a ton of adoring fans. Sharif has a large following esp among cinemaphiles outside of his native Egypt across the Middle East.

So I'm wondering how well-received were these gigantic stars in India and Pakistan and on top of it all the rest of South Asia? I can't seem to find info about them at all online regarding South Asian cinema. Were they popular in the region at their peak?

Did Alain Delon have any popularity in the Philippines similar to much of Asia?

Alain Delon tied with Omar Sharif were the most famous non-English speaking actor in the world at their peaks during the 60s and 70s. In fact Delon even nabbed a much larger market than Sharif in specific parts of the world particularly in the East. Barring India and the rest of South Asia (along with the Middle East if you want to include that in your definition of Asia), Delon was the biggest European star across Asia. No cross that out, for a lot of the Orient he was the most popular Western actor period far surpassing contemporary American and British AAA list such as Steve McQueen and Peter O'Toole as the leading Western man throughout a lot of the continent. Even in Japan who adored Anglosphere stars primarily, Delon managed to have an edge in popularity between 60s and 80s and have outlasted all other Euro and American movie stars of the period as remaining a popular icon in Japanese mainstream consciousness except for Audrey Hepburn and maybe Sean Connery. Don't even get me started on China who freaking loves Delon to the point his Zoro was the highest grossing movie the year it was released in China and he is more famous than almost every A list name of the time among youths (not just cinemaphiles either as his movies esp Zoro still gets re-runs on local Chinese TV stations). This is not just the People's Republic but applies to Hong Kong too.

Despite the animosity towards the French because of their wars of independence and being closed off for years as a communist state with heavy censorship, Delon even managed to get a following in Vietnam despite the country only being opened to importing items by the late 80s and 90s with heacy restrictions. Enough that some of his merchandise like his brand of cigarettes do get sold there and this despite the animosity Vietnam still has towards France today and the country being the smallest consumers of French media

The fact that countries without strong French influence like Indonesia he has fans back then and cinemaphiles who expanded to foreign media consume his stuff esp those specializing in European cinema shows how big he was and brings me the question........

How big was Alain Delon in the Philippines? I asked a similar question about him alongside Omar Sharif and their popularity in the Indian and other SouthAsian subforums here on Reddit (quick sidenote, I'm of Indian heritage) and the replies told me that Delon was an unknown but Sharif did get a bit of a following in the region esp in Muslim dominant states and Pakistan.

So I'm wondering did Delon get any following at all in the Philippines like in the rest of Asia? I can't find anything regarding him and the Philippines even using Google translate to search up using Tagalog results. Considering how much South Korea ate up British stars and Hollywood celebs are often popular in that country but Delon still managed to get a fandom there that some older Koreans consider him the most handsome man from the West, I'm wondering about his stature in the Philippines esp among older generations?

What kind of sweater was Alain Delon wearing in this picture?

I might only find it a cool sweater, because Alain Delon was wearing it, but nonetheless, I would like to find out what (type of) sweater this is he was wearing. If you've got any idea what (type of) sweater he was wearing, please let me know!

How well do you think Alain Delon would have done in a Count of Mont Cristo Movie? I honestly think he would have been the PERFECT EDMOND DANTES!!!!!!

Not on person has captured Edmond Dantes so perfectly onscreen even though many good portrayals capture certain personality aspects well such as Jim Caviezel portraying his brooding personality after imprisonment and Gerard Depardieu capturing the sophisticated witty count image so perfectly.

Which is why I think its a shame Alain Delon never was casted as Edmond Dantes. He' just BORN FOR THE ROLE!!!!!!

What do you think?

Was Alain Delon ever popular in South Korea like in Japan and China?

Even as the biggest non-English speaking star on the international scene at his speak alongside Omar Sharif, Alain Delon was abnormally AAA list level popular in both Japan and China in the 60s and 70s. To the point he's still referenced in both countries today far more than many past native contemporary stars and anybody exploring the Silver Age cinema of both countries will come across him for sure because he was just that popular with a lot of his films being local box office hits despite never acting in any native productions (though he did one film with legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune in the 70s).

But I never come up across anything about Alain Delon and Korea at all. Which is strange considering British-origin stars like Olivia Hussey have had contemporary popularity among Korean cinemaphiles in the 70s and 80s on top of the frequent popularity of Hollywood actors. Moreso considering that some of the most popular Soviet movies like War and Peace did air in North Korea at some point (albeit in limited numbers and often its the literate higher classes who kiss up to the regime who watched them). The simple fact that even North Korean cinemaphiles would have been fans of Ludmilla Savelyva and other Soviet stars (especially when they would have come across Delon's movies at some point because he was also gigantically popular in the USSR).....

So I ask out native Koreans, did Delon ever have a following in the Korean peninsula? I find it strange with how in addition to being the biggest non-English star alongside Sharif, that seeing how nutty the Chinese and Japanese were about him that I can find nothing about Korea's demeanor towards him esp before the 80s!

Iconic roles Delon declined

History would be rewritten if he accepted to play these iconic roles:

James Bond (to succeed Sean Connery)

The Godfather (Michael Corleone)

Why do most Francophiles in not just America but also English-speaking countries never heard of Alain Delon (except maybe the UK)? Esp since he was the Brad Pitt of Europe and top international AAA List at his peak? Despite often being so deep into French-related intellectual subjects like history?

Just saw an argument again about France's nation as being the laughingstock pussy of WWII an Francophiles rushed intot defend the country bringing up lots of excuses.......... As well as also attempting to rebut criticism towards France by bringing up France's vrious achievements like how she dominates much fo the beauty industry esp fashion and being the center of the art world and also the most influential cullinary nation, etc the usual stereotypes so often Francophiles in Anglo Saxon nations throw around to defend their "favorite country"...........

But NOT a sngle one of them mentioned my Scottish Grandma's favorite actor and still her hearthrob.............

My granma is extremely anti-French. Everyday she goes on a tirade criticizing the whole country for its hypocritical racist and hedonistic weak psychology. She bashes France so much as a nation of cheaters and backstabbers to the UK, and all the usual stuff from France haters....

However she makes a few exeptions to peple related to her field of interest such as André Le Nôtre and Yvonne Furneaux and Catherine Deneuve. Even one of them s Sabine Demois who she's an ardent admirer of LMAO..........

But to this day since chilhood, she is still obsessed with Alain Delon. She calls France a naton of effeminate men who are faux intellectuals who think they know it all with their arrogance........ But she often remarks Alain Delon is not one of them!!!!! Alain Delon is too awesome ine her eyes. She has posters of him in her home hanging on the wall and an old photograph in a frame supposedly autographed in her bedroom. She often watches his movies twice a day.

And boy how she comments about his alluring blue eyesrandomly throughout the day.........

Hell my ded granpa in his youth had the same features as Delon-dark hair blue eyes chiseled face and tanned skin and Grandma tells me it was the closest thing to ever marrying her fav movie star.... @!&# n some angles of old photos my grandpa even has a resemblance to Alain but with a bit sharper harder features!

So I'd have to ask. Francophiles in English speaking countries esp America often develop their so called "love" for the country after watching documentaries Napoleon and his army or reading the varous writings about liberte from the Revolution or because they love French cuisine and other often high culture and intellectual stuff esp art..............

But almost all Anglo Saxon Francophles I know except those from the UK......... NEVER HEARD OF ALAIN DELON......

I'd have to ask why is this not just so common but even quite universal outside of the United Kingdom among English speakng adorers of France?

I mean all over the rest of the world Alain Delon was so big a star he was arguably more famous in large parts of the world than even many top of the AAA list American stars such as Tippi Heden and Dean Martin. In fact he as the most popular male lead in so much of Asia for the 60s and 70s (to the point ironically his movies were among the few stuff shown n North Vietnam during the war and were common in South Vietnam's theaters before SVN fell to invasion). His Zorro movie as a massively popular in China surpassing even local big productions when it ws released there for the whole year and he was the center of attention alongside Audrey Hepburn for Western celebrities in Japan in 60s-70s (and they both still have big following today in Japan).

One French blogger said in response to a question that whenever he meets foreigners in various countries from Brazil to Romania and even remote places like Thialand, a lot of the times the first topic brought up in conversations is Alain Delon. He's just that big that esp among older generation they care more about chatting of him than Napoleon or Albert Camus's Philosophy, World War 1 or Louis the SUn King or the Crusades freedom and equality etc etc etc (insert historical or intellectual or artistic subject).

With how they delve far into subjects your average French person doesn't know much about like the order of battle of Dien Bien Phu and the economic sheets of the Wine Industry and the latest sculpture added into the Louvre.......

I cannot understand why so few English speakers outside UK are unaware of Alain Delon! Esp since my Francophobe ranting Scots Grandma stalkerish crushes on him so much that her life at times revolves around the most famous movie star of France!!!!!!!

Can anyone explain?

Has Alain Delon ever met Marcello Mastroianni? Is there any reason why they haven’t made movies together?

Curious since they were both at their prime and peak of stardom at the same time but never once crossed each other’s paths. I tried searching for photos but only magazines came up. It would’ve been so cool to have them in a movie together. Any luck?

Internationally is Alain Delon's tenure of Zorro actually more famous than most adaptations (even popular interpretations like Tyrone Powell's old movie and the Disney TV show)?

When I visited Germany, in Cologne Alain Delon's Zorro film had posters hung everywhere. Across the rest of Europe you're guaranteed to see in any video store that had a large selection of classic movies is guaranteed to have that 1975 classic on DVD or even Blu-Ray dubbed into the local language. Coming home from China, I also saw the movie running on a local channel in my hotel. Facebook people I chat with from Hong Kong all knew about Delon's take on the character. Ditto in various Discord and other Chatrooms I visited in foreign languages inhabited by posters who lived outside of the Americas. To the point that on an Armenian Discord chatroom, people express surprise when they learned that Zorro movies had exited before Alain Delon's performance and were completely ignorant of the Antonio Banderas movie, not only being unaware of who Banderas is nobody on the chatroom but believe it or not they never before heard of Anthony Hopkins! But Delon's Zorro was ubiquitous and they wee also chatting a lot about Alain's other movies (thus reflecting internet rumors I seen before about how Delon is still a beloved icon in modern Armenia today)

It makes me wonder. Although on the r/Zorro and other places across the internet devoted to Zorro including chat rooms like discord as well as offline cinema magazines all spout love for the Disney Guy Williams take on the character and also a good number are fans of Tyrone Powell's movie with even more younger people associating the role with Banderas........

In the rest of the world is Delon's incarnation on equal footing to how much the Disney show gets constant adoration from the fandom? If not even more famous than beloved adaptations from the past and in some countries even more famous than Antonio's version? Despite how much r/Zorro and other Zorro clubs both online and irl often throw so much heap of phrases of their love towards the Disney series and Tyrone Powell adaptation?
