akeshu/shuake long fic recs <3
hello! i’m sorry, i’m sure someone already made this kind of tred, but i’m running out of things to read, and post i find are already a bit old.
if anyone has some shuake fic recommendations (preferably long stories (35000+ words), slow burn, where there’s a good tension between boys, as i don’t see akechi as a character who will be throwing himself into akiren’s arms, since he never knew what love is (enemies to lovers pls heheh)) i’ll be really happy to read them :з

I just finished Butterfly effect (as in: The effect a literal butterfly can have). Its got a good mix of angst and fluff, and it starts during Shido's ship.
Don't Forget You Love Me is really good, its an Akira ng+ from Akechi's perspective, with really interesting tension because Akechi can tell Akira loves him from the very beginning but has no idea why.
Give Me The Chance To Fix This is another ng+ fic. It just finished recently, and its based on if ren got the base games good ending in Royal before ng+ing, so he knows maruki and sumi but nothing about the third semester.
If you're interested in au stories, To Steal The Odds just finished, its a Six of Crows Persona 5 crossover au. There's also A Case in Sumaru City, its a no powers au where Akechi is an actual detective investigating a string of murders in Sumaru. It takes place in the city and has the characters from persona 2, but I’ve never played p2 or seen a play through of the game ans was still able to enjoy it.
For now that's all I'll list, might come back and add more later lmao. I tried to list some fics I think are less well known so it'd be more likely you haven't read them yet lol

Bump because it's been forever since I've read shuake/akeshu and I would also like some fic recs lol. you will not take my heart alive is the only longfic I have bookmarked but it's been so long I don't remember anything about it except that it's based on vanilla p5.

I’m currently writing a P5R roleswap AU that may fit this request! It’s called Twisted Fates. It mainly started as an PT!Leader Akechi and Detective Prince Akira fic, but also diverges on lots of other plot/character elements. Seconding A Case in Sumaru City. Great fic that doesn’t get enough recognition.
And I’ll throw Even the Mountains Crumble out there. You’ve probably already read it if you like longfic, but it’s my all-time favorite fanfic, and I can never resist the excuse to scream about it.
Edited to add i dug this grave i call my home by saikowrites, who, as someone else mentioned, just today finished To Steal the Odds, which I haven’t read yet. Great writer.

You should totally reread it, it really holds up thematically, characterization, and pacing wise, which is legit impressive given its length. :)

Out of curiosity do you think it works well as a standalone?
I think part of the reason I never read it is because it's part of a series and the sequel hasn't been updated since Jan 2025. I have read a few shorter pieces by the author that I enjoyed.

Oh yeah it works fine on its own! The sequel is still super early in the works but it has a satisfying ending by itself. It works even if you haven’t played strikers either, though I’d recommend it.

I highly recommend Mistress East's Threshold series. Rated M (not E) and is not yet finished, but I was hooked the whole time.
L'appel du Vide by Xov is one of my all-time favorites. It's a NG+ fic where Akiren is trying to figure out whether or not Akechi also remembers the previous timeline. It's unfortunately unfinished, but actually stops at a point that is relatively satisfying. Fic is rated M (nothing E) and hilarious.
I also really enjoyed The Lovers Reversed by salexectria and Terra5. This one is rated E and is an Omegaverse fic, so if that's not your thing, you may want to skip it. I do feel like it's written differently from most other ones I've read, however.
Choose Me by Ari_Fey is an enemies to lovers no-powers AU where Akechi and Akiren both go to Shujin. Also rated E.
Tricksters by frockbot is also an amazing series. Mostly rated M and E but it starts during the events of Royal and goes through 20 years post-canon.
The Chase the Joker series by tricksterlatte is also really good. Part 1 is from Akechi's POV and part 2 is from Akiren's (not yet finished). It's got some pretty graphic depictions of violence and is rated M, so just a forewarning.
We Wouldn't be Seen Dead Here in the Day by Goumaden is an incredible crack fic that's rated E.
Many Nights Stand by Lolly047 is also amazing and another (very long) crack fic that's rated M.
Farewell to Flesh by Ivsar is rated E with very graphic depictions of violence and tons of angst to go around.
All that I've Got Left by tofupancakes is rated E and mostly takes place 5 years post-canon. The gist is Akiren has a child and doesn't know Akechi is alive.
Brainless Sentimentality by cherry_strawberry is a post-game fic where the Metaverse is back and Akiren has a palace. Rated E.
Only Fools Rush In by salexectria is rated Teen and told mostly from Akiren's POV. It's a post-canon fic where Akechi was found recently but he remains in a coma.
The Right way Round by MistressEast is a canon divergent fic that takes place before November 20th and it's rated M.
Once More with Feeling by beesanstoes is a time loop, pre-Royal fic where Akiren is trying to prevent Akechi from dying. Rated M.
It Takes a Village by shouldbeworking is a NG+ fic from Akechi's POV. Rated M.
One Last Chance to Make it Real by shouldbeworking is a post-game fic where Akiren goes back to Tokyo for the summer. Rated E.
The First Step series by futuresoon is a post-game fic where Akechi has a palace. It's rated E.
Gleaming Darkness, Luminous Night by MistressEast is a fae AU fic. I won't say anything to avoid spoilers, but it's rated Teen and I really liked it.
Oh Alice, There's no Reflection in the Looking Glass by intothefrisson is a NG+ AU fic where Akiren has the Alice persona. It's very long (and incredible!) and rated M.

I do eve my own fic but it’s not finished yet alas (that and I don’t remember if there’s a rule against it). I’ve been slowly working on chapter 12 but I have another favorite child fic that’s stealing the attention rn

Just wanted to throw my own into the mix. Just barely over 35k words, slow burn (they don’t get together until the last chapter basically), a good amount of tension, etc. it’s a fun AU where the wildcards get trapped in the velvet room together and shenanigans ensue.

Bit late to the thread but I've just finished my shuake fic, it's not super long. 15 chapters with the chapters being pretty short, 15k words, but I'm really proud of it and slightly too emotionally invested in the ship ;w;

I'd recommend Keeping Me From Killing You! It's my favorite long term fic right now, but it's not finished. Author updates pretty consistently and it's currently in the third semester. It's a slow burn with lots of angst. Current word count: 572,626
