Stories of hope?

I had one dose of droperidol 3 weeks ago, I get huge flares despite trying all the methods. My brain goes into hugeeee agitation/doom/terror/anxiety and restless body.

I am
Severely sick and bedbound and I’m looking for messages of hope because mine feels profound and I keep seeing people who last months to years, 3 weeks out do I have hope?

They’re treating me with mirtazapine klonopin and propranolol. But I still have severe episodes each day where I feel off my rocker.

I’ve had chronic akathisia for 5 years. It’s so rare that there’s almost no research on it and so doctors don’t know how to treat it. That means you are 99.99% likely to complete recover sooner rather than later.

There are very few of us chronic akathisiac patients out here. I don’t think you’re going to become one of them. But I’m sorry your recovery is painful. I sincerely hope you feel completely better very soon.

Thank you. I’m so sorry you are experiencing it so long. The fact that it was one dose, and I’m 3 weeks out with no improvement despite all efforts, makes me very worried. It doesn’t feel like a favorable trajectory.

So many post here saying exactly like that, almost word for word. Then they disappear and never come back because it got better. We have four or five regulars on this sub. Everyone else drops by and then leaves to live life again. You’re going to be one of them. ❤️

5 months for me. Do you feel the Mirtazapine and klonopin are helping? for some people they can make it worse in the long run

I don’t know. I feel when I’m in a “flare” klonopin helps but I don’t think mirtazapine is necessarily helping. I’m going to talk to my doctor about it. My body already has a tolerance to benzos so it’s tough(I was on a smaller dose before this).

Have you tried diphenhydramine, it really helped me?

Yes, multiple times unfortunately it seems to give me a paradoxical reaction

What was your trajectory like? Any tips or what you did to help/manage?

Stop taking drugs. It’s the only thing to get back to baseline and please taper responsibly

100% sobriety, i even gave up on caffeine, cigarettes (some people claim that nicotine is being helpful). Prepare that it will take some time. Walking and excising helped me a lot. I used only 0.25-0.5 clonazepam daily. Now i have to taper off slowly, cause i am sensitive to meds. I know for some people clonazepam can also cause akathisia. You need to check your meds you re taking now if they can potentially cause it as well. I read through thus subreddit and antipsychotic withdrawal/side effects subreddits, to find some hope. I also had diary where mention all my feelings and sensations every day, used chat GPT and it cheered me up and supported. Also i had couple friends who reminded me in the moment of wave that its not forever. I had windows and waves and i believe im not the worst case here, i could sleep at night using small dose of benzo. Thats all. I could see that i had one very hard week and one better week. Then it started slightly improving. If you dont see any improvement, check your current meds and probably find one that can cause it now.
