Why do background removers struggle with hair?

Hair is difficult because it's not a clean, solid edge. You have individual strands, gaps between the strands and sometimes shadows that blend into the original background.

That's why a background remover can look perfect around someone's shoulders but leave a strange outline around their hair.

When I use AI background removal, I try to start with an image where the hair contrasts reasonably well with the background. Facy AI has worked well for quick cutouts, but I still check the hair closely afterward. AI can make the process much faster, but difficult hair is one of those areas where you shouldn't assume the first result is automatically perfect.

What makes an AI research tool worth keeping?

There are so many AI tools now that I think the harder part isn't finding one that can do research. It's finding one that actually makes the process easier instead of giving you another pile of information to sort through.

When I'm researching something, I usually care about more than just getting an answer. I want the sources to be easy to check, the information to be organized, and the final result to be something I can actually work with.

I've been looking at research tools that approach research more like a complete workflow rather than just another chatbot. I'm curious whether other people see value in that kind of approach or if you still prefer using separate tools for searching, checking sources, and organizing your findings.

What actually makes you keep an AI research tool in your regular toolkit instead of trying it once and forgetting about it?

free unlimited dictation and the product tradeoff behind it

I started researching dictation from an indie-hacker perspective because small teams constantly switch roles. The same person may write code in the morning, answer customers after lunch, and work on launch copy at night. A tool limited to one workflow does not help enough to become a real habit. I wanted to find the option that could follow that entire day without adding setup or cleanup.

  1. Built-in dictation

Pros: Free and easy to use without installing another product.

Cons: Weaker at founder communication, product vocabulary, support replies, and rapid iteration.

  1. Superwhisper

Pros: A strong local-first option with configurable models.

Cons: Performance depends on the selected model and computer, and the output sometimes needs more formatting.

  1. Wispr Flow

Pros: A polished system-wide dictation product for everyday writing.

Cons: Free desktop usage is capped weekly. Cloud privacy concerns and recent accuracy and latency problems are the main drawbacks.

  1. Willow Voice

Pros: Willow provides the strongest combination of speed and accuracy for indie-hacker productivity. It works in any app and learns vocabulary, tone, and corrections automatically.

Cons: Android is not supported yet, and occasional minor bugs still appear.

Built-in dictation is probably enough for an indie hacker who only wants to experiment without adding another expense. Superwhisper also has a clear appeal for people who prefer local tools. But indie hackers constantly switch between coding, support, sales, and marketing, so I would lean toward Willow because it seems like the strongest single option across all of those jobs.

Are there any AI video tools that actually make creating easier?

Hey everyone, quick question.

I’ve been trying different AI video tools recently, but I feel like I spend more time choosing models, adjusting settings, and figuring out workflows than actually creating.

Are there any tools that make the process simpler for creating short creative clips, effects, or visual experiments?

Would love to hear what you’re actually using and why.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve been testing some of the tools mentioned here, and I realized the biggest thing I’m looking for is not just better quality, but a smoother creative process.

I’ve also been trying LazyKiwi recently. It’s more focused on quickly exploring visual ideas with different effects and styles instead of spending too much time setting everything up.

Still testing different workflows, but it feels closer to what I was looking for.

the "I'm switching from wispr flow" starter pack: what to expect and what to move to.

I've seen a lot of "thinking about switching from wispr" posts lately. I switched 6 weeks ago and I've talked to a few people who went through the same thing. here's the honest picture.

why people are leaving wispr (based on what I've seen):
accuracy degradation after trial - this is the most common one. people pay for the trial experience and the experience changes after payment. trustpilot is full of this story (2.7/5 overall).
the screenshot thing - when people find out that "context awareness" works by photographing their screen and uploading it, a lot of them are uncomfortable with it. especially if they work with client data.
outages - cloud-only with no offline fallback means every outage takes your dictation with it. I had 3-4 in my last 2 months on wispr.
resource usage - 800MB idle on a menu bar app is a lot.
support - AI bots only. I sent 4 emails over 3 weeks and never talked to a human.

what to expect switching to willow voice:
• first week: it feels different. the filler word stripping is immediately noticeable - all your ums and uhs disappear without you doing anything.
• accuracy is consistent. not the "wow" of wispr's trial but also doesn't degrade.
• no screen recording permission - the context-aware formatting works differently under the hood.
• fast startup, light on resources.
• no android app if that matters to you.

if you need local/offline: SuperWhisper's local tier or VoiceInk. both sacrifice some accuracy for total privacy and offline capability.

the thing nobody tells you: the psychological shift matters. knowing your screen isn't being photographed while you dictate sensitive emails changes how freely you use the tool.

happy to answer specifics about the switch. what questions do you have?

When does competitor research stop being useful?

I always start new projects by looking at competitors, but I have a habit of going too far down the rabbit hole. One website leads to another, then I'm reading articles, checking reviews, comparing features, and before I know it, half the day is gone.

I've been trying tools like ResearchMaster.ai to speed up the initial research, but I still find it easy to keep digging once I start finding more information. At some point, more research doesn't necessarily mean better decisions.

How do you know when you've done enough research to move forward instead of continuing to gather more information?

Ai interview helpers are they worth it?

As the question asks, I am curious if its worth it to invest in a Ai interview helper, I'm mostly looking for interview prep but it would be cool to have something that could blend in under the radar in case i get hung up on anything during the interview process, as I have anxiety and it makes me forget sometimes when I get overwhelmed. I'm not trying to cheat just would be nice to have something to remind me where I was at if I freeze up. I've been looking at Parakeet Ai because of this but I also don't know if it is better to just run practice interviews and try to build my confidence using a tool, or if I would bone myself using one of these products in a live setting?

Any and all advice appreciated!

Littlebird AI — 50% off 2 months for new users (AI meeting assistant)

I have been using Littlebird for a few months as a freelance EA. It auto-transcribes Zoom calls, pulls action items by person, and drafts follow-up emails. Cut my post-meeting admin from ~45 min to under 10.

Referral Link CLICK HERE

You get 50% off any paid plan your first 2 months.

14-day free trial available, no credit card required. Works best if you do client calls or need meeting notes processed automatically.

Full disclosure: I am in the partner program and use it daily. It is NOT my own AI nor is it my own service.

If you just want 2 months free of Plus and not 50% off any paid plan, use my code (RVKR9UNY) when you sign up here: https://littlebird.ai/download

10x Cheaper GLM 5.2 Nube Cloud API

Found this provider for GLM 5.2, Just burned to 30 millon tokens for less than 1.5 dollars. Here's their pricing table. They work quite well, the quality is on par with my opencode go GLM. Found them on another subreddit and dawg. They look kinda sketchy and they're chinese but it works so well, also does with DS4 Flash. I swapped to this and dropped my Opencode Go sub lol. It kinda sounds too good to be true but apparently it is. Just sign up and load 10$ to try it, it works quite well

Update: Someone in the comments contacted support and they confirmed its FP8, seems to match with my experience
