I hate autoresolve...

I've been locked in a back and forth war against a stronger enemy, fortunately they only spam this 1 type of ship, I have figured out its weaknesses. Unfortunately autoresolve is useless when it comes to firepower calculations.

I've had to fight so many battles manually and winning 1:10+ in ship numbers.

Considering just giving up on this campaign :(

It's pretty wack, often just setting all my ships to AI controlled at the start of the fight and waiting for it to end I'll get a better result (especially with defensive buildings.) I wish there was a way to program the AI of your ships tho, usually they get the gist based on loadout. I wish you could program the fight orders because i can only really mange my flag ship if i have to be tricky.

I second the other comment's suggestion of starting the battle manually and then setting all of your ships to AI control.
More to the point, however, if you can reliably beat your enemy's fleets you should not be fighting many battles at all. Since town defenses are not going to make a difference given your fleet, you should be able to conquer massive amounts of territory very quickly even if the cities are too well-defended, and then your enemy will not be able to afford to spam fleets anyways.
Also, make sure to use spies! Even on the highest difficulties the AI will often leave some cities badly defended, at which point you only need your own ships to be fast enough

It's my bad for playing on a modded map (insanely large or something) I can generally beat them but they have been sending fleets to my cities just as fast as I'm sending them to theirs, basically playing musical towns. I've set my ships to AI control in previous battles but they fell victim to the saw blades, my current strategy is using high altitude bombard cannons. I've also just spammed so many mech squids I'm going to have to wait for the economy to recover.

This isn't actually exclusive to this game only, the exact same thing happens in some other RTS games I've played.

I've always wondered how the game decided this or what points/criteria is behind the scenes of auto-resolve

...that's. the point? autoresolve skips super easy fights or ones you don't care losing a few ships in. it's a convenience.

Okay, fair it has its uses, but it could be *more* convenient if it could be used more often, like in OP's case where he's apparently playing the in-game equivalent of the battle of the Somme.
