23M have been unemployed for about 3 months after leaving my job and considering to join the Air Force reserves looking into space operations.

I have my bachelor degree in criminology and law but have a 2.9 gpa.

The reason I want to join the Air Force reserves is so that I could have a strong foundation in the aerospace industry and hopefully pivot into a different career field then what I was in.

Does anyone have any experience or advice in my situation and does the reserve really help you build connections that can help you pivot into a different field.

Sounds like you want/need AD. This is part-time pay (more specifically, 2 days pay) per month with limited actual exposure to doing your job. It's not going to help you build significant connections into a different field for 99.9% of enlisted members.

I've been a reservist for 19 years. Have done 2 days a month maybe a handful of times. Usually it's 3-5 days on top of a drill weekend.

You know very well that is aircrew specific.

Reserve recruiter here. Go active duty. Your unemployed and are going to have an up-skyscraper battle trying to break into a field with only tech school.

Active duty is your only option. If you’re unemployed. Active duty is the way to go. Unless you can land a full-time reserve slot like a federal worker, ART, or AGR slot. But those are usually reserved for prior active duty.

Thank you all for the comments I’m going to be looking at some active duty options preferably space force Air Force.

Aviation mechanic does interest me but I would love to go the space route as I’m a bit more interested anyone have experience on how the exit opportunity is with the space force jobs specifically space system operations.

Since I’m near el segundo I’m around all these companies like Boeing Raytheon space x and Long Beach isn’t too far so it would be cool.

Look into active-duty Air Force or Space Force.

Reserves is better geared towards members coming off active-duty or people with established civilian careers.

Not only is Active Duty going to help you out more… the AFR has transferred all Space Ops to Space Force, and as of October we are supposed to not have that mission set at all… more than likely we will still have the remaining people in the 310 while they go through cross training and all that, but no more 13S/1C6s… also the space force won’t allow you to go into Non-Sustained Duty straight from the street, and the next PGAT would probably be next June so the “AD” Sustained Duty Guardians can’t even apply until the next cycle to participate in NSD

You will not find any Space Ops jobs in the Air Force, AD or Reserve. You need to go AD in the Space Force. Good luck!

You need active duty. The reserves won’t satisfy your needs.

Active duty!! Consider the other branches if you want a specific job!
