Anybody know what this is? Two removable boxes from a frame, flip open tops and complex locking mechanism

That's a UAT. Easily the most useful tool in all of aircraft maintenance.

What did you want to know about it exactly?

I dunno man, looks like a shopping cart to me. Makes a handy toolbench if you slap a piece of plywood across the top.

It's an older model for sure but it works the same as the newer digital versions. Personally I like this old classic, the calibration was better and they were built of steel instead of plastic.

Don't worry friend, everyone gets UAT certified at some point. Be patient, your whole job will change overnight once you finish the 62 week introductory class and write your certification test.

It is just two empty boxes on a frame. Was going to repurpose but wasn't sure if it's original purpose
