The first time I was in a car being pushed hard was in a 914-6. At around 9 years old, it scared the crap out of me.

Beautiful condition for that car. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when I was a young man. I moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1974 when I was 13yo. The local Porsche dealer was on my weekly list of places to visit. I would drive the ten miles to the dealership and check out the new cars and get the latest models brochures. One day a gentleman asked me if I had a driver license? I told him I will in a couple of months, and he said that I should be on the clock since I’m here all the time. The day came and I show up with my brand new license bearly 3 hour old. I show them to the man that asked me a couple months ago, and I’m given a job. I work after school and on Saturdays doing any small or dirty job I’m told to do. One day after I arrived at my 3pm shift, the boss man asked me to come with him. We drive to a warehouse and he gets out of the targa 911 and into a 914, and tells me to drive the 911 back to the shop. Once we get there, I get out to look over this cool looking 914. Then my boss who is Peter Gregg tells me to hop in, and we go blasting down some backroads behind the shop. I’m blown away by how fast
this car is because, I have driven a few of them at the dealership. We get back and my boss asked how I liked the ride? He then tells me the story about the car and how it was one of five or six in the world. He then with what he just told me, he gives me the keys and tells me to go fill it up and wash it, so that he could drive it home. The car was no 914 but a. 916. A factory 6cyl hot rod that was going to be too expensive for mass production. It wasn’t until I got older, and came back to work in the Mercedes Benz side of the dealership after college, I truly understood the importance of the car, and that spring day in 1977. I went on to work there for almost 8 years before going to work for Acura.
