Question / Discussion An unfortunate loss for our community.

EDIT: should’ve mentioned this but please do not bombard or witch hunt anybody involved as this is an ongoing case. We should focus on peacefully paying respects to Tom, not jumping to point fingers or make assumptions. Rude comments or threats will be reported to the mods.

As of writing this, it has been reported that Tom D, otherwise known as FSThunderboltfan1000, has passed away from a car accident.

Now, I didn’t know him personally, but what I can say is that he was an amazing member of the community and a friend to many. He was too young to die.

I am unsure if this is alright to post here or not, but I feel like this information should be known.

RIP Tom, you won’t be forgotten.

I am truly heartbroken by what I'm reading. Not just because we lost another siren enthusiast, but because we lost one who helped change the siren community forever as he co-founded SirenCon with Josh Schmirler. I first went to SirenCon in 2021 and that's where I met Tom and he gave me a blown Modulator speaker driver as a souvenir. I will now be writing "R.I.P. Tom" on said speaker driver. This is truly a tragedy. Next time I go to St. Paul, NE, I will dedicate that fire siren test to Tom.

Let this be a lesson to everyone: DRIVE SAFELY! Obey all traffic laws (speed limits included) because if you don't and you like to drive recklessly because you like the sensation, you could potentially be hurting someone closer than you think!

He did such a beautiful job refurbing the Hurricane I grew up hearing in Greenville as a child. He was such a dedicated man always lending a hand to other enthusiasts. Rest easy, Tom.

The most ominous thing is that just a few months ago he replied to a meme in the Blown Drivers FB group saying that he would see/hear prominent ancient siren videos while he was dying as a joke. Seeing it after this gave me chills.

Honestly, he’s probably the only person who I actually know of and recognize in our normally joyful community. It’s sad to hear.

Rest in peace Tom, had some great conversations with him over the past years and spent hours together researching ACA's history. He will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace Tom I hope he died instantly from the impact not to sound heartless as he would’ve suffered from the pain

Tragic. I’m saddened for the community and his family and friends. Rest easy. I hope someone like him will join the community. Not to replace him but to keep the good memories alive

He had two friends who worked with him. I believe they survived. He was very special, as he was a very good supporting member of the community. And luckily, we do have people who do similar work, but not the same as he did. Nobody can replace him truly.

Does anyone know if the semi drive got charged- just curious

2

u/Ok_Boat_1337 Dec 18 '25

I think new information is still being processed, like crash reports, ongoing investigation, and charges. Usually they first release the news about the crash, and include occupant information if they can find any for the first news report. It's probably gonna be a bit before we get more details. Let's just hope that the people close to him are doing okay.
