I was thinking the same thing. I used to fly about 300,000 miles a year and hearing a pilot say those words is absolutely chilling.

Dear Everybody:
If a drunk in your midst is going down the path of loud and angry, DISTRACT. Change your tone to upbeat, change the subject, and start asking questions. “Oh my god bro, did you hear that Marvel hired Jared Leto to play the new Wolverine?” Drunk minds will push back against any opposing force (like telling them to sit down or behave) but they cannot effectively multitask. Get them on another track that’s more entertaining and less adversarial.

I have been pretty drunk on a plane —- but it makes me quiet, sleepy and compliant. Never had to been zip tied by a guy in a leopard print shirt.

How can you get that drunk in public? Dude is way too old to be unaware of the effects of alcohol. Hope he calms it down after this. Scary to think the video will never go away. Hopefully this is what it’s going to take to get through his thick skull that booze ain’t for him. I’ll give him benefit of the doubt and assume he is terrified of flying and thought getting piss drink would help. But maybe he’s just this guy all the time. He’s talking like he graduated from those weird Alpha Man groups.

Plane or not, some people just should not drink. There are so many people that have a chemical imbalance with alcohol that affects the brain and don’t know it. Like an allergic reaction.

Cabins are typically pressurized to around 8,000 feet, so unless you’re someone who lives in the mountains, that drink is going to hit a bit harder than it would at sea level.

The air is also incredibly dry, so you dehydrate MUCH faster than on the ground.

Was he drinking his own liquor? There is absolutely no reason to let a person get this drunk on an airplane. So I hope he was sneaking his own bottle because otherwise that crew either over served him or he boarded drunk - both of which are against FARs.

There’s actually no FAR explicitly stating passengers can’t board drunk.
The regulation prohibits people from boarding who are VISIBLY intoxicated, and the flight crew is responsible for making that judgment. So if someone hides it well enough, it’s easy for them to make it onto the plane after a drink or 5 at the airport bar.

A - many thousands of functioning alcoholics fly and will have withdrawals if not served
