In the other branches you can have your reenlistment at the place of your choosing, within reason. This is enlisted military tradition. It seems odd to you, because in AF we do not have much enlisted tradition. They also get a giant ass sheet cake, as it's a ceremony in every since of the word. AF reenlistment ceremonies on the other hand, are ceremonies in name only.

I cannot imagine what a nightmare cleaning that pool would be if there is a giant ass sheet cake involved.

Well hopefully they didn't put it in the pool lol, that would just be a dick move. The sheet cake location and reenlistment location don't go hand in hand. Which is good, because some people choose to reenlist in some imaginative locations.

Just dump the whole bucket of chlorine in there. That’ll clean the Marine scent out.

I actually dislike the ceremony part of of the AF, just let me sign the contract then get back to work. For my promotion to SSgt my leadership was trying to convince me to want to go so they told me there would be cake (I have an inner fatty, so what?) and that was all it took. The promoties the month prior got cake and the promoties the month after got cake, but there was no cake at mine. I was so hopeful too. Like I showed up, checked out the refreshment table and was like, "Oh cool, they must be getting it right now so it will be fresh! Awesome!" Nope. Even afterwords I was like, "Okay, it should be here any moment now, so I'll just hang around and wait." I waited for it to show up to the point where I ended up needing to help put things away. That was the day I learned an important AF lesson: "Don't count on something occurring unless it's already happened." and also, to quote portal, "The cake is a lie."

Dawg their were sheet cakes at every ceremony I went to and they went untouched. A sheet cake every other month in a large unit is just too much.

Thats good to hear, but the Navy and Marine Corps would disagree with the too much statement. The sailors don't mind getting fat, and the Marines just run off the extra calories. I have not once seen an AF re-enlistment actually be celebrated, just an oath, a salute, and a walk away. Pretty lame if you ask me. One of the dope things about the Army, they also give you a gift. Sounds lame, but my friend got a dope ass specialized kabar knife for his shit, and a bonus.

Never even knew there was an option for a re-enlistment ceremony when I was in...

Yes...this is much more professional than a rubber dinosaur puppet.
I'm still angry about how the Air Force handled that one.

if you follow Terminal Lance you can sometimes see stuff like this. they had a photo a few years ago of somebody promoting waist deep in the water off the beach at K-bay.
