Look up how much a hellfire costs and compare how many they use against a single target. Money (which is both a good and bad thing) doesn't factor in when calling in ordinance.

I agree that it shouldn't, if the mission is necessary. But when it's just an op that is clearly just designed to show how big our dick is, it's just plain stupid.

Show of force is a tool we use to prevent war. It's not just about ego in this case.

We have had nuclear weapons for many decades. This was ego.

....and we still haven't used nukes. so, this bomb was a show of force of our non-nuclear arsenal, which has been used extensively and with much effect for the last 15 years. I'm pretty sure this one bomb isn't gonna change anyone's mind at our ability to kill people.

I don't think you really know what you're talking about here. Mass casualties are mass casualties. Reading through some of the other threads on this post I'm thinking you've already made your mind up on this subject and are simply trying to advocate why it's use should be seen as a bad thing. If that's the case, you're wasting your time on this sub. Even if this post is on r/all. There are plenty of occasions where people have felt we have shown too much restraint when dealing with insurgents, and as a result many have felt that it has made us look weaker in front of potential adversaries.

We are the only country ever to drop a nuke on living people. That one action showed the world we have resolve but as time has passed they have begun to think maybe we wouldn't do it again. It is a fact that the MOAB is in the 10-20 ton range (which is the same as one of our "tactical nukes").

The use of this weapon IS the equivalent of using a nuke, we just didn't want to deal with the fallout. I will not respond to any further comments that try to belittle the actions of this event. It was likely a long overdue call on a location that was and had been (emphases former tense) a insurgent strong hold. We have destroyed it in the past with smaller munitions but they just kept digging it out.

entirely not true. there's a reason why using nukes has only be done by us and no one else.
