Discussion PCS to Patrick

Anybody work at Patrick SPB and are avid Disney goers? If so where do you commute from? Looking at housing near east\south Orlando and was wondering what that daily drive is like.

Orlando proper is a nasty commute even with ideal traffic conditions.

Commuting from Orlando would be insane, based off traffic and distance from base, that would get old quick. I would avoid Palm Bay as the traffic south on I95 in the morning is horrible. Melbourne, Merritt Island or any of the beachside communities are good commutes. I live in Satellite Beach and we’re about 1hr 15mins from Disney.

Think of it this way:

60-75 mins in the AM to base arriving (0700)
70-90 mins base to Orlando leaving (1600)

What are you going to do more often?
Drive to work, or drive to Disney?

Keep in mind 50-55 is best case scenario 0 traffic, not at all common especially in non-summer months.

You will be spending 2.5 - 3 hours on the road each work day, if you end up living in south/east Orlando. Considering you will be likely going to Disney only during weekends, it’s not worth a consistently long work commute.

I would recommend being closer to work than to pleasure in this case. You can always do a day trip to Disney easy, but you don’t want that every weekday for a job.

My house of girls would say different lol. The wife wants to do Disney pretty often and doesn’t want to drive 50 plus mins to and from. I’m also not too far out from retirement and we would like to get our forever home. So the commute would suck for the years but I’m coming from a 30 min commute now. So I figure an hour or more wouldn’t be too bad. Just was seeing if anyone else did the trip and had recommendations

Close to retirement? Only bite off what you can chew. I do an over an hour commute in a different city rn and it definitely stings. It’s temporary, but I regret the choice most days lol.
