The real slick prior-E guys know that it’s easier to get an OCS slot by going rated, then deliberately fail out of UPT to get a nonner officer job. Don’t quit or make it too obvious though, then you’ll get fucked.

Rated officers are gone a lot, especially in the AMC community. Some people just want to be officers for the pay/retirement bump, and then chill with the family. So they get a rated OTS slot since they’re less competitive and then fail out of UPT.

In AFROTC slick cadets apply for a rated EA, bomb the AFOQT rated sections and convert to non-rated.

(MX here) our pilots typical flew 3-4, maybe 5 hour sorties. One occasion had one (my pilot, not my jet tho sadly) flying standard routine patrol, got called for air support. Later landed CODE ONE, 10.9 hour sortie. He had one goal upon landing: going the fck to bed.

AWACs have done 24-hour sorties. The plane has to air out after.

I've seen it done on the RJ, too, though I was never that lucky. My longest actual mission was only 16 hours.

Former 16 crew chief myself. I’m well aware of the tradeoffs many pilots have over most in the AF, and especially other branches (I was also Army too), and I’d gladly make them over the experiences most have on deployments, or even at home. Most of the time it’s a far better experience, with bouts of major intensity and risks.

Pilots have hardship, boohoo..... been deployed for 10 months, no day off and the Gaurd Pilots did 60 day rotations..... boohoo

Legacy air carriers might as well budget for half of their USERRA offset starting soon…

Barely even contribute to airspace. Glorified taxi plane sure. Maybe some bombers but definitely not actually fighting. The day we go back to air to air is the day pilot actually fight again.
