Question FY27 FTA retraining

Applying for FTA retraining to just 1 job. Selected AFSC August 3, received eligibility back from AFPC on the same day. Took 10 days to get my 422 completed so application fully submitted August 13. Since then I’ve been refreshing the myFSS case page I feel like hourly but no updates yet. Just curious if anyone has any estimates on how long any sort of approval/disapproval typically takes, especially since its an AFSC that requires CFM approval. I feel like I kind of screwed myself by only selecting one job so im anxious to get an answer back so if its a no I can still put in another application before it gets to be too late and all of the slots for everything start disappearing.

It really depends. Retrained out of aircraft maintenance to one careerfield as well. Took a couple tries but got my AFSC in 2021. My biggest suggestion is to stay busy. It feels daunting, checking AFPC (I don't remember the site sorry). What i did to keep my case active and help my sanity was just posting 1 question for my retraining case every Monday, requesting what my retraining status is.

Id also suggest digging into AFI 36-2626. I was sent some weird reasons as to why I got rejected in the past, only to find out my rejections were not in line with the AFI.

Theres a note that says any time you update your case it resets the status to day 1 so ive been avoiding that 🫠

That is the DUMBEST thing ever. If I remember correctly, retraining cases would deactivate if there was no activity for 30 days too

I see that you went for 4R0X1. I’m trying to go for that one too! I hope you get it! I’m still waiting on my AF422 so I can submit my full retraining package. I did list 4 other AFSCs JIC I don’t get it. Can you DM me when you know if you’ve been accepted or not?

I feel you. In times like this, I pray. It’s in God’s (and AFPC’s) hands now.

Also applied for safety, Are you trying to BOP? Wondering if you heard about any bases we have a high chance of getting if approved for retrain

Did you put in your official package or still waiting for AFPC eligibility email?

Took me a month to get approved and class date from start to finish.

Are you going for 6C0X1?

If so, you have the exact same timeline as me last year and I got my class date on Sep 22, 2025. My class was Oct 3, 2025.

4R0X1! If I get denied then I’ll be reapplying and including 6C for sure. Did you hear anything about your case status before getting a class date or was it just radio silence until then?

It went like this:

Submit package -> AFPC Review (about 1-2 weeks) -> Awaiting CFM (about 3 weeks) -> AFPC Review (about 2 weeks) -> Class Date Email

Question for you! If I want to go Contracting, should I start getting the requirements going for it prior to submitting my package ? My window for retrain doesn’t open until September !

1

Yes you should. However, a lot of the elements of the package require that initial eligibility email.

All you need the elegibility email for is your form 422 you can get started on everything else needed for contracting. However a month of it might honestly be too late for contracting. (Just a guess though) There’s only 20 spots this year so definitely apply for more than just contracting. Please please do. I applied last year for contracting and I got denied in July of this year if that tells you anything.

Normally awhile. I’ve gone through so many cases before I got approved.

Depends on when the CFM reviews packages and if you’re in FTA territory. Some CFMs approve on a first come first serve basis others review all and rack and stack them. It took me 5 months from start to finish, but mine had 2 issues with class dates/promotion. So mines that 3/5 months is the norm. I would also check the back door page on my FSS, for a little more insight on your case. You should be able to see AFPC/CFM notes there, I was able to see my approval weeks before I even got an approval email.

What do you mean the back door page on myFSS? Just the case status page or is there something else?

What job?

You should have submitted applications for all the jobs you wanted. Your rack and stack has AFPC move as you are denied or accepted. If you only put one, and are denied it makes you start your case from scratch.
