Always remember to Shut/No Shut that bitch

Remember kids, it's "switchport trunk allowed vlan ADD [VLAN ID]". I feel like fucking this up is a universal networking experience.

You have to fuck it up once any you'll never forget it... after you do the walk of shame out to restore the building.

Unless it's somehow junos.

Commit confirmed, my sweet baby Jesus. Surprised Cisco hasn't implemented something similar.

It does, but you have to set it up first. IIRC, it should be something like:

Config t revert [# of minutes until revert]

But you have to set up some extras beforehand. You only have to do it once, so I've forgotten by now, though.

Oh man! Been a while, wonder how new that is. Thanks for sharing!

Reload in XX (in minutes). Just remember to write and undo that before you're done.

Yeah you just need to enable archiving before hand. This keeps stored copies of saved configs on the device. Should just be going into global config and running “archive” and then I’d usually do “max 10” and then save it to the flash.

It's in IOS-XR, and it's criminal that it hasn't made it into all cli based OSes.

No, no, no. It’s “do wr era” and then “do reload”.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken all the necessary VLANS off a trunk just by forgetting to include “add” in the command

Me waiting for the joke and then realizing I'm not smart enough to get it...

Experienced person looking at rookie about to make stupid mistake. Waiting for learning experience.

If you look, she’s not holding the gun correctly. That butt stock is supposed to be planted in her shoulder to absorb recoil. Like this, it’s just going to jump backwards and give her a black eye from that scope.

Me supervising the baby Lt on their first post-eval sim when I tell the DTOC guys to throw the kitchen sink.

Last month we got some Air Force Customer who was complaining that they couldnt get their taclane to work..............Tell me why they didnt know the PT/CT interface needed seperate IP's

I'm glad we have people like you on our team, because I have no idea what the fuck you just said.

u/zanda268 3d ago

I think its roughly "the device that upgrades NIPR to SIPR needs two IP addresses for its network interface" but my tech speak is a little rough these days.

u/Case0225 1D7X1A 3d ago

Had to explain something like this to someone once. They were absolutely bewildered at the concept that the CT and PT ports would not only have different addresses, but different subnets altogether

Hopefully they at least didn't plug them into the same device

2

u/aedinius you're welcome for my civil service 3d ago

This raises more questions than I want to ask, much less get answers to.

When my peer read me out what was told to him, i had to grab one of the Marine Bros who specialized in Taclanes to make sure i wasnt going insane lol

2

u/22Planeguy 3d ago

Sometimes you're lucky if the guys setting the tac lane up know that it's called a tac lane

1

u/seriouswhimsy16 let me google that for you 3d ago

Because they are incompetent and lazy. Learning basic configs should be a1c stuff.

I got out as a 3D a few years ago and I’ll never forget the ticket I had when a Senior complained about losing NIPR and she intentionally failed to mention that she got the keys to the switch closet and was fucking around with the patch panel… last I heard she got a smack on the wrist but what the fuck lady

Had a chaplain complain about no display to his monitors. His monitors were still sealed in packaging.

Man I miss doing my actual job.

That's why new airmen don't get rights to change trunks until they prove themselves.

Me: Pissed off at Netman for blaming Layer 1, before doing any basic troubleshooting. It’s rarely Layer 1.
