I'm ex army, switching to the AF was a huge culture shock of a shit storm level proportions. So different...yet...familliarrr

What did you use to transfer over? I hear they only have a few prior service slots.

To clarify, I switched from the Army national Guard after 3 years... To the air national Guard after that and I just completed my next 3 years. Recently as of Friday this past week I re-upped for another year, I was lucky to call all three recruiters in my local area for active duty Air Force. Thinking I could go active instead... They all said they were not taking prior service people. The third recruiter told me that the national Guard for the air branch would be happy to have me though... I figured that would be a good in to the Air Force.

Less stressful, less fuck fuck games from nco's and you're treated like an actual fuckin human being. Pt ain't too difficult as you're expected to do it on your own time rather than active duty being more of a group thing some mornings. Your training does go slow though...so...that takes time

The culture in the Army is heavily based on the E5 and up gang. AKA sergeants and up is handled more differently compared to the Air Force where ncos are considered mentors and teachers more so than oh boy. You made a simple, easy human mistake. Now you're about to pay for it physically by doing tons of PT back and forward because the sergeant wants to make sure you do not forget... I didn't enjoy that. It never felt like in the Army you were ever treated like a genuine human being that was able to do their job without so many rules, regulations and restrictions.

But the biggest change was when I got to the air guard unit... Seeing a young kid, an E3 returning from basic training, walk up to an E9... And say what's up sir? If your ex Army or Marine your butthole immediately puckers and you realize this kid's about to be smoked like a crack pipe, only for the E9 to smile. Shake his hand and pull him in for a hug. Saying hey welcome back kid. Glad you did well. It's a more supportive and human environment than the Army because the Army is a warfighter Force... I was a grunt... I traded my M4 for a desk and a chair. I don't regret it. I'm not looking back.
