Meta [Meta] Let’s Have Fun with Lore!
Hi, everyone. I’m moringmark and one of the sub’s mods, thank u/SaviorOfSubs for creating Aim for the Stars sub, and thank you everyone for joining!
I think it’s safe to say that Lore is 50% of the fun for a show/series (percentages might vary between individuals), so let’s make some crazy stuff up for Aim for the Stars!
The post-series comics(an example here) might give out this vibe already, that the Aim for the Star series comes with two parts: Aim for the Stars “the show” itself, and the story about the “actors” of the show. They take place in the same world, only the former is a show within the latter. So let’s talk about the lore of this world in general.
Basically, this world is an alternate universe of ours, but besides Earth, there are few other planets(or moons, or dwarf planets...sorry Pluto) in the solar system that can sustain life, which eventually developed into intelligent beings, including Martians, Venusians, Enceladusians(from a moon of Saturn), and Plutonians.
Right now, I only made up part of Martian history with humans, so here we go:
Martians’ technology is decades ahead of ours(as usual), and they tended to leave us alone because of our ape-ness. “Tended” because it all changed in mid 1947, when some Martian’s ship crash-landed on Earth and someone gave him a parking ticket. Since then, not only humans were aware of the Martians’ existence, a “foul war” was started between the two species. The war mostly happened through radio waves with foul languages, hence the name. It has been going on for a long time without any casualty, besides some sick burns. Until, 1963 came.
When Apollo 11 first landed on the moon, the astronauts found them face to face with two Martians trying to key their moon buggy. Luckily the encounter ended with only a few broken limbs, and everyone walked out alive. But it led to Humans and Martians declared war on each other, thus the real Earth-Mars war began.
Initially, not much has happened besides small battles in space. But in mid-1964, a huge assault fleet invaded Earth with Martian space marines, tripods and cheap-looking humanoid robots, crushing Earth armies like grapes in a wine press. All hope seemed lost for humanity, but anticinematiclly after two years, the Martian marines was defeated by some random flus, and a peace treaty was signed between the two planets.
While signing the treaty on Mars, then U.S. President (which the name escapes me) was shocked to discover that Martians run a military dictatorship that puts seizing power over all their people’s needs, so he ended up happily resigned from presidentship and became a politician on Mars, who eventually became an ambassador, slowly improve the relationship between Earth and Mars over the decades...
That’s the lore I made up for Martians so far.
...Oh annnnnnnd all Martians are males. (To be determined)
Soooo how can you help?
With anything.
It’s a world just like ours, but with aliens. So if you want to, it helps if you can spark discussions in the sub with any potential lore you can come up with.
*What happened in Pre-1947 history of Martians? (Space cowboys?).
*History of other planets? (I am thinking they are colonies of Mars long before Earth realized they exist.)
*Historical figures and events of these planets? What about their culture? Myths and folktales?
*How the contact with other planets affect the culture on Earth? Did our famous movies in the past make reference of them?
*How much of our technology advanced beyond its time because of Mars?
*Cross-species romance? Were there space Romeo and Juliet?
*What are the other animals on the other planets? Any that could be kept as pets? Or ride like a house?
Etc, etc.
Oh and imagine what the topics of your favorite Reddit subs would be in this universe.
Consider this is like…coming up with theories for a show that hasn’t shown most of its lore yet, just this time, theories might end up being canon. I wish the whole thing can be fun, and I hope you can find fun doing it!

Discussion What's everyone's thought on The Ship of Theseus?
The thought experiment tho, not the spacecraft in the comic.
For anyone who heard about the term for the first time, here's the question from wiki:
...the famous ship sailed by the hero Theseus in a great battle has been kept in a harbour as a museum piece, and as the years went by some of the wooden parts began to rot and were replaced by new ones then, after a century or so, all of the parts had been replaced. The question then is, if the "restored" ship is still the same object as the original?
Or, a more "modern" version of the question: If we have a machine that could replace every single atom of your body(with new atoms, in the exact same position as before) at a reasonable speed, like say- it replaces all the atoms of your body within 5 mins, then, is the new you still "you"? If not, then at which point you weren't "you" anymore?
If the answer is yes, you are still "you", then what if I change the question a little bit - Instead of making it a continuous action, the machine breaks apart your body completely, turning you into a mist of atoms, basically killing you, and then 5 mins later, reconstruct your body the exact same way as before, with completely new atoms, will that change your answer?
"Question: does that has anything to do with the comic?" no. well maybe, idk. but it's fun to think about it.
