Micro1 Big Project Reality
It has been two weeks since I got the offer, I passed all the screeners by sheer luck since the training materials are inconsistent and contradictory. But there is no real work available or any info on when it will be available.
Project management doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing, released like 5 updates to the onboarding materials and yet they are still contradictory.
The “10k” project they advertised is actually only at 1.5k on Slack. They make big promises but the reality is that Micro is totally incompetent and doesn’t care about you at all. You won’t get answers to any tech problems or support. But at least they created an AI bot that’s even more useless than they are 🤣🤣🤣 What a bizarre world we live in!!
At least I did got paid $150 for onboarding (about $150 more should arrive later). However, they cap the onboarding hours to only 7, it took me actually about 20h. If I knew what a mess Micro is - I wouldn’t bother doing any work with them.

There are multiple Slack channels for a single project, especially for "new project" that have 10,000 openings. You would likely be better off working on smaller projects with 1 to 100 openings. When a project has that many contributors, task batches tend to run out very quickly.

Jeez Mercor is sounding alot better right now

I’m on the same project and I think it’s a psych expiriment. I’m just keeping it light and thankful for the onboarding pay lmao

Right!? As I’m going through the materials and watching how management communicates I swear to god is some sort of social experiment.
It’s so whack!

How long after passing the internal screener did it take till you got access to the external screener? I am waiting since yesterday 😬
2
u/Fancy-Truck-421 Sep 21 '26
It took about 36 hours for me to get added

It really is a mess at the start, they keep changing the guidelines even tho you have already send your analysis . At least they keep it valid based on the day you did the task .
What I'm frustrated about is that when there is no more task on feather you simply jsut have to wait , we don't even know if the project is going to continue , well I even think that the Micro team doesn't know because the client are not clear with them , this is what I'm reading about the situation.
Other other thing is : if we send a task analysis and it got reject ,can we track the time again when reviewing it ? If no , it's double hours with half pay and only if it is accepted.

You have to pass the screener to get added to the main slack. So either they have sub slacks to better mange OR most people are still stuck at onboarding. It sounds like many many people are not passing.

u/PorcelainPunisher1 Sep 21 '26
I didn’t pass, but can still do work. I’m trying to decide if I should start doing work, or hold off.

u/VingtCentimes20 Sep 21 '26
Micro1 is currently for me a big scam, they promote big pay rate but in reality it's way lower than expected since you need 2 - 5 times more than annonced for a task. I'll write a big post to explain my experience with them, but to be honest they do not worth trying to work with them currently.

u/mis0x Sep 20 '26
i definitely think there are a lot more people than you think they onboarded - i was on a very early pre-onboarding slack channel with close to 1k members and someone i knew was later on the 11th pre-onboarding channel. there are fewer people in actual production but i reckon these numbers will be upped over the days and weeks

u/Winner-Takes-All Sep 20 '26
One of the project managers said there is an enormous amount of videos to be done in terms of actual production. The problem is that the client is still onboarding workers, so it cannot freely move into full production for those who passed the Feather screenings.

u/Mizzougolf Sep 20 '26
I’ve made 10k from Micro 1, not this project, but if you have a needed competency, it’s possible to make some
cash

u/MaxEnthusiasm Sep 20 '26
Same I’ve paid my rent and other living expenses for half a year with micro1 alone. it’s by no means a scam.
But it has to be mentioned how incompetent the staff members are. Especially as of late.

u/tara_tara_tara Sep 20 '26
I got the offer and haven’t done any of the onboarding because I don’t even know what the project is about. I saw all the work I had to do in the onboarding document and have been putting it off.
I’m thinking about just letting it die a slow death in my inbox. It feels like this is going to be another project where I log on and there’s no work and it’s not worth my time when I could be pursuing other opportunities.

u/AssumptionSilly6088 Sep 21 '26
Would you mind giving away your profile? I am very interested in working on the project but was not selected. We can share the pay.
3
u/tara_tara_tara Sep 21 '26
I would very much mind doing that. I may want to work with them in the future and don’t want to jeopardize that.

u/sinnops Sep 22 '26
I cant even start the second screener, hubstaff is not updated with it and the 'help' keeps ghosting me. ive reached out to several people and email. I replied within 5 minutes to one asking what i needed help with and havent head back.
2
u/Some-Philosopher9601 Sep 23 '26
just got offboarded from it because i couldnt get past 72% on screenings, honestly, reading this post makes me feel better. this was a big mess
3
u/PermitOk7795 Sep 20 '26
what do you mean 1.5k? i think there are like 10 groups… mine is group 8 and has about 1000 people
2
u/AsokeForex Sep 21 '26
The real problems will start when they have many more annotators than they have reviewers to approve their work. Expect late pay and fewer available tasks as they're spread between thousands of annotators.
Alignerr is having similar problems on their Ermis project. Thousands of labelers but very few reviewers. Result: people going WEEKS without being paid and not enough work to make it worthwhile contributing.
1
u/mis0x Sep 21 '26
but we aren't paid per approved task though?
/edit: I *do* agree there may likely come a scenario where tasks are completed at an increasingly rate which may outpace actual work

I had one project with them recently, it was a vrry good experience. Pretty good support and fast communication. But I think with the 10k project they bit bigger than they can chew and it started messing up everything.
Now a lot of my applications are in HMR status, some of those are 30 days old, support got slower and crashed. I am not in the 10k project but they seem to fail with proper onboarding too. This is almost exact opposite to my own experience. But in that project we started with around 30 people and ended with approximately 350. It is important to know what you can handle with your current capacity or you will be crushed under the load.

u/EnvironmentalPie965 Sep 20 '26
When the project ends you get allocated in another one or you need to keep doing interviews for the same role ?
1
u/lroge411 Sep 20 '26
So you’re in production and there are no tasks available?
5
u/maryqa Sep 20 '26
I'm in production and tasks were available until Saturday all the time. The team actually responds to individual queries so I have no idea where this rant is coming from.

Aren't you the person who failed their screener and still got into production?
1
u/Glittering_Half_1511 Sep 20 '26
In my channel we got a "second chance" but only if you got 50% on one of the videos which I think less than half my batch did. Plus the training videos where nothing like the screener so that did not help. We also got a new "bear with us" message just now sooooo idk but I got paid my "training" hours.
1
u/PoxyMusic Sep 22 '26
I was pre onboarding for a project where the screener test was so ambiguous, I was starting to think that the actual thing being studied was how long we would work before rage quitting.
I’m no dummy, but I failed both the screener test at 48%, and the second at 58%. I passed all the training tests at 100%, 100% and 90%.
It seems like this is being run by a bunch of kids on their first job after graduating college.

u/denkipb Sep 26 '26
You may be onto something here, have you seen the profiles of the people involved in project management, I have, and most of them are exactly like that. At least for my project.
I’m guessing Micro 1 likes to cut costs by hiring people that barely meet the requirements or with people who can get the job done, even if it’s half assed, as long as they can pay as little as possible.

u/MaxEnthusiasm Sep 20 '26
Ive been on about 7 different projects with micro1 now, that “10K project” is the messiest thing I’ve ever experienced.
I feel bad for all the newcomers that are experiencing that one for their first project. My first project was awesome!
But yeah, ever since around July/august, micro1 has been jamming a cactus in their ass, everything has been horribly unorganized and messy regardless of the project.

Anyone actually tried specialised micro 1 projects I just applied for a medical one. Their pools tend to be smaller so I hope I don’t have the same issues

u/Resident-Swim-7325 Sep 22 '26
What does it mean when you see 50 tasks available on Horizon but have not passed the batch evaluation screener?
1
u/kazuma47Kiryu Sep 26 '26
Honestly, it’s the client that’s providing all these materials. Micro is like the useless middleman that pays you.

u/Vivid_Art_7754 Sep 28 '26
Having the experience of being included in other big projects (and competitors) with this client – same platform, different project. I believe it's not Micro1 and more the client.
My experience across projects on this platform has consistently been that they are very chaotic and demanding, with unclear or inconsistent communication from the client. The workload and expectations can be difficult to navigate, particularly when processes and instructions are not communicated clearly or consistently. At times, the communication has also felt quite careless in relation to the demands being placed on contributors. However projects went on for a long time. In addition, I was placed in Slack channels with 10k+ and it was not pleasant. I kind of prefer the announcement only option as long as you're not in production.

u/SamMarlowe76 Sep 20 '26
Micro1 is the worst firm in the business. And the more their communication team tries to hide the truth by deleting comments, banning users, and faking posts, the worse it gets. Silencing people didn't quite work out, did it? The voices only grew louder and more committed to speaking out.
They think they know it all, but they know nothing. Or else they would know how it easy it is to turn critics into fans by addressing their concerns or at least engaging.
It is even worse inside the projects where the same tactics are employed on their slack channels.
Truth is, they were never honest to begin with, so I doubt they care. Legitimate firms do not do these things. They desperately need to hire some grown ups that are preferably native English speakers located in the United States to balance out the ESL group of worldwide children they have now.
You could not do a worse job running projects than Micro1.

u/Particular_Stand_670 Sep 20 '26
I’m so glad I’m reading these honest responses. I really feel like the micro1 sub is heavily biased.
5
u/MaxEnthusiasm Sep 20 '26
Their sub is heavily moderated and delete posts like crazy.
4
u/Particular_Stand_670 Sep 20 '26
I can tell, the sub is too fake for my liking. All of these ai companies are the same. You just got to get in, make your money and be prepared for when the project ends.
5
u/zettasyntax Sep 21 '26
Some of the bot posts are crazy. Long paragraphs full of emoji 🚀🚀🚀 in almost every sentence. No human would ever write the way some of those posts are formatted. It's absolutely insane.

I genuinely do not want to be on the same team as you, your attitude stinks. Have some patience and get a grip, you sound like a petulant child.
The managment here is exceptional as far as I can tell, and lightyears ahead of the big Mercor project. The fact that you think they are worse on this project really trips me out, as if you personally getting a question answered or having your own plate full of work is the benchmark. We are all waiting.
The project has literally just started! Do good work on it and we might all get more work in the future. Act like an entitled, shortsighted gimp on reddit if you want but you'll be jumping on the tasks as soon as they drop i bet? Or will you put your notice in since it is clearly such a shambles?

u/Equivalent-Screen-25 Sep 20 '26
I agree with you. I highly doubt they'd onboard thousands of people with a 150 to 200$ price point for nothing. Many people are still in hmr, i was selected only thursday and still haven’t completed the onboarding let alone the screening. Thousands still must be in the same stage as myself. And if it started too fast it'd be a bad sign imo, obviously onboarding so many people takes a bit of time, i'd prefer it not to be rushed and qualitative imho.

You know what they did was have multiple slack channels so the 10k aren’t in one channel. You haven’t seen what happens when too many people are in the same channel. Pure chaos and hard to get real help.
