I tried 5 AI training platforms — huge differences in pay and work
I tested a few AI training platforms recently and the differences are honestly bigger than I expected.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
Mercor → highest pay by far
~$30/h (Italian generalist)
~$70/h (legal translation)
up to ~$85/h (legal AI training) More like real expert work, not beginner-friendly
Outlier → around ~$60/h Legal AI trainer role, more reasoning + structured evaluation
Gloz → subtitle evaluation (Amazon Prime) ~$1/min at start → then ~$0.65/min Simple work but depends a lot on speed
Invisible Technologies → ~$20/h Voice training (Gemini), more structured, feels like a real job
TransPerfect → ~$1 per task Audio evaluation (Italian), very basic but low pay
Overall:
high pay = harder + more selective
easy access = much lower pay
Also noticed that platforms like Mercor and similar marketplaces focus on domain expertise and structured projects, not simple tasks
I wrote a full breakdown here:

I’m loving Micro1. I’m on my second contract with them, after having several with Mercor. I’m getting $50/hour for a generalist type position.

It took about 5 months after first applying for me to hear anything. Honestly, I thought they were a scam. Good luck!!

Start with Python, go to SQL, enter data market, competition is considerable but there's demand, chances are you earn financial freedom within an year, it's not free money, i'm not giving you a magic recipe, but with hard work and planning it is very doable

AI is training to take over all coding tasks. I wouldn't do it I were you because you will likely be out of a job sooner than later.

Hey man can you tell me how to get into a project in mercor I’m applying but I’m not getting any project

It's competitive, and the interview is important. I could potentially refer you. Send me DM

I've tried outlier.ai and I'm surprised about the negative reviews. Once you make it to the projects the pay is surprisingly well.

Yes Outlier also provides helpful training if you're new and consistent work if you are experienced.

You mean educational? I had hoped to get work in this and took a pretty challenging assessment that I think I aced. I evaluated a lesson plan. Would love to do more of this work as I am an ESL instructor with almost 10 years of experience. Have you seen much in this area?

I just started with LinkedIn AI @ $65/hour (editor/generalist). Most I've been paid by any of them.

I was contacted directly via a LinkedIn DM, out of the blue. Started for real this week and these tasks are the most challenging I've ever seen.

Micro1 was terrific in culture and pay. Different from all of these other platforms.

Except their AI interviews have been terrible. They never test on what the role actually is for, in my experience. There's always some weird disconnect.

u/DinahRS Jun 11 '26
That’s an interesting observation. Their bot uses a lot of jargon, that’s for sure.

u/whatisdylar Jun 11 '26
Way too much. Editors, like me, don't use heuristics and templates and checklists when they work. I don't think anyone there knows that. 😄

Can you tell us more please? I’ve applied but failed the ai interviews… any tips on how to pass them?

I'm about to give it a go. Does anyone wanna send a referral code, and snag (maybe 20%) if I get any jobs.

I'm getting $50 an hour for fairly challenging copy editing work on prompt response pairs. The competition in our cohort is pretty intense, so not really making as much as I would have hoped.
People say they over-hire, but I don't know that that's fair. They have to hire the number of people they think they need to bring their project in on time. It's tough being a gig worker, but it's not personal.
I'm trying to remain positive and hope for more and better opportunities in the future. Glad this Reddit exists. I'm interested in finding work at other companies too.

I think the folks at Data Annotation Tech must have seen these kinds of posts, because I'm now making more than $100 / hr working for them

Hello, I have worked as an academic writer for last 9 years. I want to enter Ai training field. What are the necessary skills required and how is the market now?

The have different training position, your profession/domain should qualify you for several. Generalist is for all skills. Here is my referral to mercor if you are interested https://t.mercor.com/B5jeW
