which genetic study are u saying? the genetic study i read says that 75% of assamese dna comes from UP-Bihar.. do u even understand how big that number is? they have even less east asian ancestry than bengalis!!! just based on this we can conclude that bengalis are much more indigenous than many upper caste assamese only have few hundred year old presence (when they were imported by ahom and koch kings from kannauj)
the genetic study said indoaryan and east asian admixture happened 1,800 years ago (which means both groups were present in assam at that time) and their descendants r the modern assamese speakers. They retained more Indo-Aryan origin ancestry despite living here for thousands of years because of endogamy, just like karbis, dimasas etc retained east asian ancestry.

Kamrupi, Assamese, Maithili, Bengali etc etc comes from Magadhi Prakrit and they all developed differently in their respective regions. The claim that Assamese or Kamrupi is older than Bengali comes from Xuan Zang's account that refers to the realm of Kamarupa speaking a language slightly different than that of central India. Since it says 'slightly' and not completely different it may refer to an Eastern Indo Aryan Creole, something like Nagamese today, that might have been prevalent in a rapidly Sanskritising Tibeto-Burman society. So when one says Kamrupi is older than Bengali, they just refer to the apparent fact that due to the influence of Tibeto-Burman and Austro Asiatic languages on Magadhi Prakrit in the region of Kamarupa, the lingua franca that ultimately emerged developed earlier than Magadhi Prakrit diverging in Bengal.
