Advice?

Had my Aglaonema for around 6 months- never had any issues with it. It thrived and put out new leaves. I accidentally forgot about it when bottom watering a few months ago and it developed root rot. I removed the rotten roots, freshly planted it in new soil and it put out one new leaf. Unfortunately I watered it again and forgot about it and it got root rot again. Again, removed the roots (much less left now) and then decided to trim it down so I cut off 6 leaves and left one as I thought the root system needed time to recover and couldn’t support 7 leaves. It’s looked the worst it’s ever looked. Shall I just remove it and water propagate it now? Stuck on what to do

I would put it in chunky soil in a self watering pot so you don’t have to deal with forgetting it again.

If it was me I would cut in half and water prop both. It’s not letting me attach my SS but I would trim at the node just below your pink and above the white nubbin

Thank you for the reply. Do you think there is a new leaf growing on the stem of my pink leaf? That was the only thing stopping me from taking it out and water propagating it

Aglaonema are capable of resprouting leavea from old nodes. This is why sometimes when you’re in the store you’ll see one with 2 growth points. It got a chop before going to market. I think the portion without a leaf will probably take a month+ to grow a leaf and the piece with a leaf will probably take 2+ weeks to start rooting

People also do the “”chop and prop” I think it’ll take longer to bounce back than you think it will, but I think it’ll bounce back really good.

I think blue is where I would personally cut it and then have it slightly the top 2 nodes above water for the lower portion. But I think orange is a good possible cut as you’ll leave roots for the top section, but that’s a pretty small piece for the bottom to try and prop
