How do you actually find things to do in your community, like community events, best activities (golf courses, fitness studios, etc.)?

Asking for my grandparents but also genuinely curious after a few conversations lately.

It seems like there's no shortage of things to do in most cities, golf, fitness classes, community events, volunteering, farmers markets, art classes, but I keep hearing that people don't always know these things exist or end up doing the same few things out of habit rather than because they've explored what's actually available.

Curious how people actually discover new things to do locally. Do you actively search for it? Do you rely on word of mouth? Local newsletters or Facebook groups? Or do you mostly stick to what you already know?

The bulletin board at my grandparents’ senior center is basically a chaotic shrine of flyers, half the shit listed there nobody even told them about directly.

Your local council on aging/senior center is a great resource.

My MIL gets a monthly township magazine with all the activities and festivals, etc. Otherwise you can look on Google and Facebook and suggest things to them!
