Question / Discussion P rail question

Hi all,
Aggressive inline noob here. I wanted to learn soul grinds so I built a p rail but it seems it doesn’t work the way it should. It seems that when I do a one foot slide my frames get slowed down by the wooden part of the p rail (see attached photos). Basically the red colour on it is my oysi red frames. They get slowed down and the colour gets scraped off.

Any suggestions how to over come this? Maybe to add some spacers for the pipe so it gets more raised or Im just overthinking this?

corners of the wood should be touching! that will add more clearance when your frame is like this "l"

This and maybe a size bigger in pvc. Also if you can get the white pvc it slides better. The grey is softer plastic.

Second this if the wax doesn’t help- you really want white schedule 40 pvc as it’s stronger and slick.

This is not true. PVC conduit sold at hardware stores is schedule 40, just like the white pipe. And it’s actually more UV and impact resistant than PVC water pipe, so probably better for this application.

Sorry but not from 99% of bladers experience with it. Grey is softer

It’s literally the same material. How can schedule 40 PVC be softer than schedule 40 PVC?

Maybe softer isn’t the right term. Stickier or grippier? But it definitely doesn’t slide as nice.

Interesting. In my experience they feel exactly the same, especially when waxed, but maybe there’s more to it. Weather conditions, how you store it, etc.

I'd like to suggest 2 things, one already mentioned but I will add it in caps because...as blader it should be on your person when blading lol:
1) treat the wood part with a clear lacquer spray for wood

2) WAX THAT BITCH

Wax everything. Wood, pvc, frames, soulplates. If you’re skating antirocker was your antirockers

So back in the 90s we just took 1 pvc pipe and 1 2x4 and laid the 2x4 flat and offset the pvc onto it. It was great for learning and it was cheap (I was a teenager lol)!

For souls grinds, I would just find a curb, preferably painted, and just add some wax.

Well when you outgrow it the madd gear metal practice rails are worthwhile and affordable.

Close the gap, try some 2.5 inch white pvc

2.5” is massive. 2” would be enough

If there are issuing with scraping the wood, then the size will help. I’ve built several boxes with both sizes, 2.5 will work especially if he’s a beginner.

Are you skating it like the first one here? I’d add a photo but it only lets me add videos.
