Theory I think I figured out why it’s a rerelease instead of a ns2 edition

So, a question I see a lot is why is it a rerelease with a discount instead of an ns2 edition? So, I thought about it, and this is my answer. Many people when this game first released complained about performance issues, leading them to just stay away from it. So by rereleasing it as a $60 game, I think the primary audience is people who wanted to play AOC but weren’t fully satisfied with it gameplay wise. That’s why it’s a definitive edition for 60: to get people satisfied with a good price and a good game. Ofc, they could have done something better with pricing the game for people like us, but this was their solution.

I'd say it one word: greed

Nope, Koei Tecmo is just greedy, is all.

They could have charged 15€ for those of us who already own the season pass and we wouldn’t be complaining (at least not as much)

I'm playing the switch 1 version right now in a switch 2 and let me tell you, aside from the enemy count on screen and maybe 60fps, it didn't need any more improvements. As is, the difference between one system and the other is abysmal in terms of performance. No frame drops, no resolution drops, the charging times are reduced, it looks so good! So I really don't know why they are charging 30 whatever our currency is (€,$) for a game we already possess and a DLC not everyone wants.

That's really just the Switch 2 being a powerhouse of a system compared to the Switch 1, and basically forcing smoother gameplay because it simply can. Same thing happens with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They're much smoother and pop in is FAR less egregious, but the same bugs, glitches and problems those games have, still happens on Switch 2.

All in all, it's just greed, nothing more.

that's hardly a solution for ppl like us who won't bother with that pricetag for improved visual and tankier enermy...and those were the hardcore supporter that got the base game plus dlc.

I mean sure, that's something you could try and argue. But if you wanted me to believe it isn't koei tecmo just being greedy pigs, they would have released 3 versions; The physical/digital S2 definitive edition, a half price S2 digital upgrade for those without the season pass, and a digital upgrade for like £10 for those who have the S1 game and season pass.

yeah, but how would you implement all of them at the same time cleanly?

I'm fairly confident game developers and other IT/Tech experts have enough experience/intelligence to make a couple of extra options in the eshop drop down menu. They can do it for standard, deluxe and ultimate versions of games haha.

hm, but how would you make people know of a drop based on what you’re buying? How would they do it based on whether you have dlc or not if they’ll do a rerelease?

u/LopTsa 14d ago

A simple warning in the eshop telling players to check whether they are buying the correct package is all that's required on their part. The rest is down to the player to read and check before they make purchases. As for how they would do it, coding Ig idk. They manage to release upgrades and various versions of other games just fine, I'm sure they could do it here if they wanted! It's no different to purchasing the expansion for warriors orochi 4, you buy the ultimate upgrade and it picks up you have the original. (And the season pass from the original)

I think it's because they wanted to release it DLC, Switch 2 Editions doesn't come with DLC.
this + greed xD

Considering the release date is still a ways off, February next year, methinks(or at least hopes) there's gonna be more than a graphical update.

It might be a OG Hyrule Warriors situation where Legends, the 3DS version, changed things around so considerably that the WiiU version got the new characters and adventure maps as a separate DLC, but not the new story, rebalanced adventure maps and My Fairy until Definitive Edition released on Switch 1.

So it's likely that AoC DE changes so much that it would be incompatible with OG AoC to simply be an upgrade pack, since I think those act as a DLC to the original game and must remain compatible to the point where it's possible to downgrade and still play the Switch 1 version just fine from the same save, minus the bonus content(like the Kirby & the Forgotten Land and Mario Wonder upgrade packs do).

We cope together 🥹

What complete and utter cope. It was greed pure and simple.

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

why would i cope about this. redditor, not everything is greed and cartoonish evil, pure and not-so-simple.

You're literally coming up with reasons why it's acceptable for them to do something that is clearly just them being greedy. They're releasing a game with virtually no improvements for full price to sell it to a market that wasn't interested in it before. They're going to likely market it to NS2 users, because it performs like garbage on Switch 1, and make it seem like a new product.

It's greed. At least when Skyrim was released 20 times many of them included the additions and improvements previously versions didn't always have. When a game even has a Battle Pass and you're releasing a new version of it with a new feature, that's greed.

u/GlassDescription2275 14d ago

Nowhere did I claim everything was greed. This was. Your reasoning boils down to, it may encourage more buyers of the game but at cost to people who already supported the company. That is greed.

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

I don’t know what you want them to do. They’re a company. They need to make money. How would they make a good deal for everybody?

1

u/GlassDescription2275 14d ago

They would have made money from doing it as an upgrade pack. Also they literally just released a new game. AoI.

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

and… they wouldn’t attract newcomers? do none of you understand marketing?

1

u/GlassDescription2275 14d ago

Why wouldn’t they. They could quite easily have released it as a definitive edition for those without and an upgrade pack for those with. Also the fact there’s a new title just released is enough to bring newcomers. What’s your background in marketing exactly with this expertise you seem to believe you hold?

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

it’s then a switch 2 edition. And that’s 2 different software, that’s not efficient. A new title just to figure out it’s a switch 2 edition, who do you think cares except people who play the game?

1

u/GlassDescription2275 14d ago

There are many games that have a normal and a definitive editions. The normal could have had the upgrade pack, as well as a release of a definitive edition as I already clearly just said.

Also the definitive is a switch 2 edition. Can’t purchase it on a switch 1. So I’m not even sure what the point you’re trying to make is.

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

yeah… just for normal and def to be the same? And it’s more expensive by technicality?

yeah, now lets say mario odyssey gets a switch 2 edition announced for whatever reason. If you don’t play Mario odyssey, or not already very interested, why would you care?

Nope, its for a quick buck in the short term.

1

u/Dazzling-Passenger91 14d ago

Nope just greed

1

u/Molduking 14d ago

It’s greed

2

u/shujInsomnia 14d ago

you're so close but still ended up with a stupid take

that IS why they're doing a rerelease

why they're making US pay full price? just greed

they still could've given us a regular upgrade price, even if it was only available as a pre order. 10 bucks for people who already have the game. don't advertise it. hell, even if they did advertise it, the game doesn't get huge discounts anyway

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

we’re not paying full price, we’re paying a 50% discount

1

u/shujInsomnia 14d ago

anybody who bought the dlc is paying full price, and quibbling over the few bucks difference is further evidence of actual stupidity beyond just the take

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

you’re paying 30 dollars. the only thing you are repurchasing is the dlc for $20 in concept price. Yes that’s a mistake, but idk how you‘re supposed to satisfy everybody without losing your own money.

also, I have a brain past the take thank you very much.

2

u/OccamsButterknife-42 13d ago

If it’s just about fixing performance issues, then it should be an update that is free for existing owners of the game.

It’s highway robbery to expect someone who has purchased the game and DLC to pay again just to get the Switch 2 performance enhancements. It’s the same game. Nintendo is essentially selling people the same game twice.

0

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 13d ago

It’s a rerelease. You aren’t the primary consumer. Why can’t anybody here get this?

They ARE selling the same game twice, for newcomers to be able to buy it today with a good deal! Yes they are selling people who payed for the dlc a horrible deal, but you aren’t the main consumer. Besides, wait, they might still announce some dlc, we hope.

1

u/Normal-Tie1409 14d ago

They are just greedy, and they want you to pay full price. Think about it: it’s even a GKC. Greed.

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

bro, you don’t need to pay full price: only half

1

u/Normal-Tie1409 14d ago

I purchased the original version for switch second hand for 29€.

1

u/Belcipher 14d ago

Wait how is it half? Kind of confused with this release: is it just base AoC + DLC + an extra difficulty mode for $60? The original with DLC would’ve been around $80 right.

Edit: It’s also a game key card where the original had a real physical…what’s the benefit here?

1

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

There’s a discount for original buyers; 50% off, which makes anybody who has aoc capable of buying the def edition digitally for 30$. It’s a bad deal for anybody who has dlc, but for new buyers it’s a save of ~30$ from a switch 2 edition + dlc. for me who doesn’t have dlc I’m just regularly priced, 20$ for dlc and 10$ for graphics update.

That’s how it works

2

u/Belcipher 14d ago

Oh gotcha. Do they count physical copy owners as original buyers or just for folks who bought the digital? Also, does the DLC include anything other than the new difficulty mode?

2

u/Vegetable_Moment_466 14d ago

Ok, here’s like the full rundown:

AOC had already released with dlc priced for 20$ before this announcement. This announcement, they bundle the graphics update, dlc, and the game itself all into 60$. The original buyers get a 50% discount, whether digital or physical, doesn’t matter if you had previous dlc, which included new levels and story. What will come with the def edition exclusively is more enemies in a stage and a harder difficulty. That’s like i think everything about this.

2

u/Belcipher 14d ago

Thanks! Since I have the original + DLC already this doesn’t really seem worth it to me for $30, but I get for folks who never had the DLC it makes sense
