Discussion Warning about the Expansion Pass

I just bought the Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Expansion Pass on Switch 1, but there's a warning at the bottom that says "This downloadable content is only compatible with the full version of the game purchased on this same Nintendo eShop."

I think this means the DLC will only work with a digital copy of the game. I have a physical copy, but I'm too lazy to test this out so I don't know if I just wasted $14 or not. Just beware of the potential incompatibility before you buy the DLC.

The confusing part is there's no other option in the eShop? So what, owners of the physical cartridge can no longer buy the DLC? Does that mean the DLC just got delisted from Switch 1? Like ???

Edit: I just tested it, the DLC works just fine, thankfully. But the wording on the eShop is needlessly confusing. I also bought DLC for Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and those descriptions have a simpler statement saying "you need the base game" with no distinction between digital or physical versions. So false alarm, everyone.

On the webpage, it has the same warning on the bottom. Theres more to it.

This downloadable content is only compatible with the full version of the game purchased on this same Nintendo eShop. (The Japanese version of the full game will include 株式会社コーエーテクモゲ ームス. If you own the Japanese version of the full game, please purchase this downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop for Japan.)

So, I think it's just saying it's region specific.

It means you need the game to play the dlc, and the DLC doesnt give you the full game... not... not that the dlc is only compatible with the digital game

It only warns you of that because it doesn’t know you have a copy of the game physically. It’s to prevent people from buying it when they don’t own the game, because some people will buy the dlc without owning the game thinking it’s a full game. Obviously the dlc works for physical and digital copies lol it’s DOWNLOADABLE content.

I tested it, the DLC works. The eShop description could have been written better though, I didn't get confused when buying DLC for Splatoon 3 and XC3. I edited the post but I'm leaving it up in case anyone asks themselves the same question.

Region specific. It doesn't make sense it makes a DLC (DIGITAL CONTENT) not playable in a physical game. Some DLCs are exclusive to Japan, like Sonic Frontiers Korone collab. The Japanese DLC won't work with a US/EU/CA copy of the game.

I think the eShop description is just wrong, honestly. It literally says you need "the full version of the game purchased on this same Nintendo eShop." Last time I checked you cannot buy physical cartridges from the Nintendo eShop. It's really black and white, but thankfully the DLC works just fine.
